Room #5 on the 2nd floor above the pub. It can possibly be noisy during the busy dinner time but will go more quiet after 9:30pm.

Hubby and I were doing a quick driving tour of Wales and decided to spend the night in the NW port town of Caernarfon, opposite the Isle of Anglesey. We are so glad we did! Arriving lat night, the night staff kindly allowed us to park adjacent to the inn, and not wanting to venture too far to eat dinner, we ate at the Inn's restaurant/pub. Luckily we only had to wait 10-15 mins for a small table next to the fireplace. Score! The restaurant is cozy and meal portions quite decent. I highly rec. the fish 'n chips. The next day, we took a 1/2 hr walk around town -- it's a beautiful walled city -- and learned more about the name "Black Boy." Note: it's not intended t/b derogatory...the origin dates back to the 15th-16th c history of child chimney sweeps, coal mining or King Charles II's swarthy, dark complexion. The monarch, who was in power between 1660 and 1685, was renowned partly for his dark complexion

GREAT FOOD, FRIENDLY STAFF, CUTE PLACE, EAT HERE! If you want to feel like you are stepping back in time and communing with the locals, this is your place. Super charming sea village pub! When we walked in despite it being very business (our hint that it was probably good) The staff greeted us and went out of their way to clear a table for us and to take our drinks at the bar. It felt very down home and cozy. Though I don't get the story about the "Black Boy" the decor of this inn is colloquial and cute. Now to the good part... The FOOD. GREAT FOOD! The menu is rather gourmet for what you might expect. Specials were sophisticated and tasty such as Rabbit, bacon, mushroom casserole, and baked stuffed aubergine... I settled for lamb shank casserole that was the highlight of my night! You can tell there is a passionate chef working in the back and he or she is winning! I hope you stop in and enjoy the place. It does get crowded on weekend evenings though, beware!

Went to the black boy inn during a hen party weekend after it being the nearest place to our campsite. Lovely old worlde type of pub which serves food- although quite pricey for pub meals. However presentation and choice is excellent for a pub so I can definitely agree it's value for money. I went for a prawn cocktail starter which came with crusty bread (toasted and was a little burnt) and the Welsh pie. This was chicken ham and leek, and came with sweet potato fries and veggies. I wasn't too blown away. From the reviews I had seen I was expecting to enjoy it more. Sweet potato fries were greasy and crispy, and the chicken chunks in the pie were chewy and cut in solid cubes. It wasn't not nice, but I thought it would be a little more impressive Busy, quite crowded, but a lovely Welsh ambiance

Eye catching exterior of the pub

Very cute pub with an eye catching exterior - you will not miss it when you are walking around Caernarfon Castle area! Usually I am not a big fan of pub food, but I am surprised that they have quite a huge selection of dishes. I just wanted a light lunch so I went with the Trio of Prawns with cocktail sauce (in the starter section). The prawns were fresh and cocktail sauce was perfect. The staff working there were very friendly and helpful too. As it's the last day of my holiday, I could not return to try the main courses. Wish I had discovered this place earlier. Would definitely recommend

Looking for somewhere to eat in Caenarfon and came across this pub on Yelp and so glad we did. As soon as you walk in, you feel the warm friendly buzz - families playing draughts, couples chatting, groups of friends hanging out - it's a proper pub! My kids hit the jukebox and loved hearing their choices playing. We stayed to eat and were impressed by the range of choice on the menu. We mostly chose pies - fish, lamb and steak and ale and were not at all disappointed. My seafood crumble had an array of chunky fish pieces in and the most tasty cheesy topping. Good sized portions of chips, vegetables and chunky bread accompanied our meals. Loved the little nooks and crannies and we sat by the fireplace. It's a stunning 16th Century building, right next to the castle and definitely worth a visit.

Amazing food. Great selection on the menu and portion sizes are great. Prices are reasonable and also a great selection of craft beers and ales.

Food was great - once you figure out the online ordering system. Gotta get your own drink too.

Was looking for a dog friendly pub for tea that served mussels so this seemed to fit the bill with plenty of tables outside at the front to sit with the dogs.

There is no where any closer where you can get food of that quality that cheap! The place looks a little bit tired, now, i.e. some of the seats are ripped, one or two table numbers are missing, that sort of thing. But it is clean and tidy. The brass work is usually polished, and the toilets are normally almost spotless. The staff are usually very friendly and helpful, even when they are busy. There are happy to recommend a beer or wine if you are not sure what you would like to drink. Food orders sometimes take up to about 30 minutes to arrive, but the food is always delicious, hot and I have rarely known anything to be unavailable. There is a good selection of variety of vegetarian meals, and food for all tastes, from curries, to pasta, to mexican, to burgers or roasts. There are light snacks, starters and puddings as well as main meals. I particularly like the beer and burger deal, which costs less than £5 for a beef, chicken or vegetarian burger in a bun with chips and a drink which can be wine, or a soft drink rather than beer.

BOOK AHEAD TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT!…read more Right this place is a bugger to find, and when you do you might think ''What... I came all this way for this?'' Situated near the water is this little welsh pub that serves food 12 -2.15 and reopens for 6.30pm. I have been coming here for years and its NEVER let me down. Inside reminds me of my late nans room, pokey and full of brass-ware .. at the far back of the pub lies a more refined dining area with white table cloths. You can sit either in the pub to soak some local welsh atmosphere or retreat to the back. Arriving at 12 on the dot, already there were a couple of locals having a pint. The barman greeted us warmly and offered to bring our drinks over while we browsed the menu. Here you can choose from the seafood specials board, lunch and their everyday menu. I highly recommend anything that has fish in it as it is all locally sourced... After much oomming and ahhing I settled on the seafood linguine and my companions had the crab fishcakes. When the food arrived I was happy. The amount of seafood in my dish was incredible. Small and large prawns, salmon, smoked haddock, scallops and mussels all swimming in a sea of fresh homemade pasta... the sauce was a flavoursome creamy white broth which was not too dense. Everything just tasted so fresh , even the crab fish cakes served with homemade chips. By the time we were half way through our meal the place was full..again if you want to come here you must book to save disappointment. The prices are really reasonable too, our meal came to about £40 for the three of us including drinks!. Overall the fact you have to book no matter what day, says it all,,

Affectionately referred to as Beirut by many locals, it's a bit of a rough and ready pub that you can't help but love. The place is either closed or near enough empty during the day, but in the evenings it really livens up. There are seating areas between the door and the bar, and along one side of the pub. At most you'll have about 30 people seated. Most of the pub is a wide open dancefloor, it's either stand up and prop up the bar or dance like a maniac. It sounds terrible, but trust me, it's not! Weekends expect a mixture of loud boom boom music, usually watered down chart stuff, sometimes a bit of UK garage or bassline, sometimes a bit of old happy hardcore. Also look out for comedy tracks the likes of which have been banished from most DJs collections by now, DJ Sammy, Alice Deejay, Captain Jack etc. Pure cheese, lovely lovely delicious cheese. There's usually a few nice looking girls in there, try not to check them out too much, chances are you're about to get bottled by her fella. The toilets are dirty, the smoking area tiny, and the drinks averagely priced. It may sound like I'm putting the place down, but I'm honestly not, the place is fantastic, no night out in Caernarfon is complete without a few shots, a couple of bottles, and an embarrassing bit of dancing at Beirut!
