There are a few pubs surrounding the market place that gives the city this reputation, but one pub that's the exception is the Albert Inn on Segontium Terrace. I live on the same street and have been into this pub more than any other in the city, and walked past it most nights as well, and my opinion of the pub is that it's an old-fashioned quiet but friendly little pub that's full of character. The pub is old-fashioned in style but nicely decorated - with wooden floors and beams and wooden tables and chairs and bar. There's a pool table that takes up one half of the front of the pub, and a cosy area in front of a real fire in the other half. The bar itself is towards the back, along with some more seating. There's a variety of drinks available and prices are reasonable. There's a smoking area outside the back door which is excellent as it means there isn't anybody stood outside the front door smoking - I think even the nicest of pubs are affected by this image. Despite being English, I've never felt threatened in here and the regulars are all really friendly and chatty towards me.

The service staff was pretty bad in general and acted like they were doing us a favor and pretty much went out of their way to ignore normal requests. The pub itself can get pretty busy at the weekends, often offering free entertainment in the way of a singer or band. The pendeitsh isn't the biggest pub, but there's a fair amount of seating available. The bar can get very busy, and often they show football on the projector screen that drags the boys in on a saturday afternoon. There's even a table footy machine, better than a playstation or xbox after a few jars I tell you! Nice pub, reasonable prices, can't comment on the food (as it's been nearly ten years since I last ate there), and the staff know what they're doing. Staff turnover seems very low, so I think the owners know how to treat their staff properly. It's a nice place to be, nice atmosphere, people having a good time only and never any aggro.

There is no where any closer where you can get food of that quality that cheap! The place looks a little bit tired, now, i.e. some of the seats are ripped, one or two table numbers are missing, that sort of thing. But it is clean and tidy. The brass work is usually polished, and the toilets are normally almost spotless. The staff are usually very friendly and helpful, even when they are busy. There are happy to recommend a beer or wine if you are not sure what you would like to drink. Food orders sometimes take up to about 30 minutes to arrive, but the food is always delicious, hot and I have rarely known anything to be unavailable. There is a good selection of variety of vegetarian meals, and food for all tastes, from curries, to pasta, to mexican, to burgers or roasts. There are light snacks, starters and puddings as well as main meals. I particularly like the beer and burger deal, which costs less than £5 for a beef, chicken or vegetarian burger in a bun with chips and a drink which can be wine, or a soft drink rather than beer.

The Newborough is a popular place to eat in the area, they serve quality food at a relatively high but pretty much worth it price. The pub gets busy at the weekends, being a couple of miles outside Caernarfon I found this to be relatively surprising. It quietens down early though with most the drinkers heading in to town after a few. There's an outside area to the front with a couple of picnic tables to sit at. The outdoor seating area isn't far from the road, and being the main road between Caernarfon and Porthmadog it's not particularly quiet. It's worth making a small detour (a couple of miles out of your way maybe) to grab a spot of lunch here, but it's nothing spectacular.

This makes no odds, it's still a great little pub. I've never eaten there, in fact, I'm not even sure that they serve food. The tiny ten foot or so wide bar offers a surprising range of drinks. Beers, wines, ciders, bottles, spirits. Most of what you'd fancy really. The staff there are always good natured, there's a good mix of customers ranging from twenty somethings to pensioners. There is a small area outside for smokers to sit at, just across the narrow road between the pub and a local bistro. It smells good out there! A place you should definitely nip into for a pint at least on a saturday night. Pop in there between wetherspoons and the four alls!

I highly recommend anything that has fish in it as it is all locally sourced... After much oomming and ahhing I settled on the seafood linguine and my companions had the crab fishcakes. When the food arrived I was happy. The amount of seafood in my dish was incredible. Small and large prawns, salmon, smoked haddock, scallops and mussels all swimming in a sea of fresh homemade pasta... the sauce was a flavoursome creamy white broth which was not too dense. Everything just tasted so fresh , even the crab fish cakes served with homemade chips. Affectionately referred to as Beirut by many locals, it's a bit of a rough and ready pub that you can't help but love. The place is either closed or near enough empty during the day, but in the evenings it really livens up. There are seating areas between the door and the bar, and along one side of the pub. At most you'll have about 30 people seated. Most of the pub is a wide open dancefloor, it's either stand up and prop up the bar or dance like a maniac. It sounds terrible, but trust me, it's not! Weekends expect a mixture of loud boom boom music, usually watered down chart stuff, sometimes a bit of UK garage or bassline, sometimes a bit of old happy hardcore. Also look out for comedy tracks the likes of which have been banished from most DJs collections by now, DJ Sammy, Alice Deejay, Captain Jack etc. Pure cheese, lovely lovely delicious cheese. There's usually a few nice looking girls in there, try not to check them out too much, chances are you're about to get bottled by her fella. The toilets are dirty, the smoking area tiny, and the drinks averagely priced. It may sound like I'm putting the place down, but I'm honestly not, the place is fantastic, no night out in Caernarfon is complete without a few shots, a couple of bottles, and an embarrassing bit of dancing at Beirut!
