The chicken burger I had was pretty tasty, succulent chicken in a rich herby coating but alas the bun was a little on the soft side though and fell apart pretty easily. That herby coating was a little cloying after a while though so I struggled to finish it, thankfully the fries were very tasty! Pretty reasonable price wise, and the decor was modern but a showing it's age with some wear and tear evident.

I do however well remember the good ol' days of the Fat Cat when you'd have to fight your way in, fight your way to the bar, fight your way to the toilets etc. Not much has changed internally, it still has the same layout and same style, but having recently visited at 10pm on a Saturday night it's obvious that one thing has changed the number of customers. Not only did we not have to fight our way in we pretty much had the run of the place and not only did we find somewhere to sit (something practically unheard of in the old days) we had a wide choice of seats to select from. This may be partly due to the fact that the bar doesn't target the usual Saturday night drinking crowd. There's no cheap lager, only more expensive brands served up in fancy glasses. Some of the small band of customers present were buying cocktails which were served up with dry ice capsules that made the drinks smoke, something that looks impressive but probably doesn't add to the flavour! As well as drinks they also serve food but no-one seemed to be eating that late at night so we had no chance to sneak a peek at other people's grub. All in all it's a nice and reasonably upmarket place (the toilets need a revamp and hopefully refurbishment will be on the new owners to-do list) but you wonder if the demand is still there for a place like this in Llandudno, especially considering not only that the Fat Cat closed because the owners went bust but also that a rival bar & grill is set to open a few doors away.

Having walked in we stated we had a table booked to which they guided us at the back out the way which suited us fine. The menu held a combination of asian style dishes to fish and chips. To start I chose one of three cocktails ( a strawberry daiquiri) and my friend the calamari . The cocktail was the best part of the meal and apparently the calamari tasted fresh. For mains , between us we ordered fish and chips, katsu chicken with summer veg and hake in a sauce. All of these cost around £14 each. When the food arrived our hearts sank. The battered fish was soggy on top of frozen chips. As for the summer veggie on the side this consisted of tomatoes and salad with a bit of breaded chicken..rice and a small pot of katsu. As for my hake it tasted like one of those boil in a bag. Frozen potatoes oh but the sweet peas were nice. Throughout the meal we were constantly asked if we wanted anymore drinks despite having full vessles. At the end we were forgotten about so walked up to pay. The meal came to £70 which I think is steep for Iceland like food. I'd pop in for a drink to sit and enjoy the view, as for the food I wouldn't dare risk it again.

They were for some reason playing an exclusively REM playlist that I really enjoyed because of how out-of-place it felt. Service was friendly. Service, as in many spots in the UK and Ireland, is not as attentive as we are used to in the states, but because this was universally my experience in these rainy islands (you have to quite literally chase them down if you want a refill on water or to get your check), I won't dock them any points.

We were visiting overnight and just wanted a comfy place to stay - the rooms looked really nice on the website, so we booked here for the bargain price of £85 overnight for their most flash room (executive with bath). After a bit of a challenge finding where to park the car (the car park is diagonally opposite the hotel on the other corner of the street), we checked in which was easy and hassle free. We booked a table for dinner as we didn't really know of other options in Barrow and went to check out our room. There's a very slow elevator, or you can take the stairs. The hotel is spread over three floors and while you might initially think it seems a little cosy and close to the road, I didn't have any trouble sleeping and found it pretty quiet actually. Our room was pretty large, with an entrance foyer with open wardrobe, large bathroom with freestanding bath and a large bedroom area with couches. Everything was clean, fresh and well-presented and the bed was really comfy (although the pillows were a little hard). I wasn't expecting much for dinner, I'll be honest. But we were really impressed with the food - it was better than standard pub grub. We ate in the dining room, I believe you can also eat in the vaults downstairs while watching the football if you're so inclined. We shared smoked salmon with blue cheese fritters for a starter. This was a little weird, I'll be honest. I actually don't know what the fritters were made of, it was a bit like a blue cheese pancake. The salmon was delicious. Even though I found it weird, I still loved it so that's a bonus I guess! For main I had the 8oz prime sirloin steak, served with onion rings, chunky chips and a grilled tomato and mushroom, and I added mushroom sauce to it. This steak was really good, perfectly cooked and really well seasoned. I couldn't fault it. I struggled to finish all of this as there was a generous portion of the sides but I really enjoyed it all. We decided not to have dessert as I was well and truly stuffed. Service throughout the meal was good and while we were in a separate room tucked away from the bar, there was always someone on hand for more drinks if needed. Breakfast the next morning was pretty standard and they dealt with my request to change a few things really well, giving me extra hash browns instead of beans and black pudding. Overall, this place was a really comfortable and welcoming place to stay. The staff didn't seem to mind when we sat in the bar for an hour & half after check out, waiting for our friends to arrive from Glasgow so we could head to the stadium for roller derby! If you're heading to Barrow and need somewhere to stay, I'd highly recommend it here.
