Beautiful location, loved the restaurants atmosphere and staff. Our waiter was adorable and funny. We were recommended this place and were happy with it. Food was very tasty and so were The desserts we were rushing to get to a show to watch Eddie Izzard, so we didn't order starters (which I regret) because so many things looked delicious. Turns out show was delayed and we could have had a more relaxed dinner.

BOOK AHEAD TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT!…read more Right this place is a bugger to find, and when you do you might think ''What... I came all this way for this?'' Situated near the water is this little welsh pub that serves food 12 -2.15 and reopens for 6.30pm. I have been coming here for years and its NEVER let me down. Inside reminds me of my late nans room, pokey and full of brass-ware .. at the far back of the pub lies a more refined dining area with white table cloths. You can sit either in the pub to soak some local welsh atmosphere or retreat to the back. Arriving at 12 on the dot, already there were a couple of locals having a pint. The barman greeted us warmly and offered to bring our drinks over while we browsed the menu. Here you can choose from the seafood specials board, lunch and their everyday menu. I highly recommend anything that has fish in it as it is all locally sourced... After much oomming and ahhing I settled on the seafood linguine and my companions had the crab fishcakes. When the food arrived I was happy. The amount of seafood in my dish was incredible. Small and large prawns, salmon, smoked haddock, scallops and mussels all swimming in a sea of fresh homemade pasta... the sauce was a flavoursome creamy white broth which was not too dense. Everything just tasted so fresh , even the crab fish cakes served with homemade chips. By the time we were half way through our meal the place was full..again if you want to come here you must book to save disappointment. The prices are really reasonable too, our meal came to about £40 for the three of us including drinks!. Overall the fact you have to book no matter what day, says it all,,

Fresh, smooth and creamy oysters. The crab meat was lovely sweet, full of flavours. With the shrimp we made some tasty seafood dip. Really a nice place to grab some fresh and tasty seafood. We went to this well talked up restaurant during our short 5 day holiday on this beautiful island…read more We were staying in a beautiful cottage nearby and were excited to check out the place and fill ourselves with great, fresh sea food. I must say that overall we were a bit disappointed and that our experience did not reflect at all what other reviews here and elsewhere have related. Upon arrival you find yourself a bit confused about where to go. On the left is the restaurant proper with small groups of people eating and looking at you like you shouldn't be there. Then a waitress notices you, gives us the same look and took us to the bar/waiting lounge area for us to grab a drink and look at the menu. That bit is fine and rather agreeable actually. I wasn't balled over by the choice of beer but the wine list is attractive and we enjoyed our wine. Shown to our table we were quickly served our starters. My partner had been dreaming about getting some oysters for a long time so was really looking forward to it. They also grill the oysters with welsh cheese and I thought that I would give that a try, feeling curious. The standard oysters tasted good and fresh enough but mine were just flooded with a massive dollop of gooey cheese which is not quite what I was hoping for as I could not taste any oyster which were a lukewarm texture thing under what was bog standard cheddar that could have come from Tesco. We then ordered the lobster thermidor. I never had lobster thermidor before and to be fair rarely order lobster as it's an expensive shellfish. But I have had lobster before, albeit cooked differently. What we got was rather tasteless chewy chunks of lobster meat flooded in a butter and shallot sauce. LOADS of sauce. I don't really want to sound like a whingebag ( I know, big fail) but in a place like Anglesey which should be swarming with superb fresh seafood, having this kind of food on a plate on the sea side is just too disappointing. Especially from a place that claims to do it justice. To alleviate things somewhat, the service did improve upon the initial reception and our waitress was very attentive and patient. I just hope we came on a bad day but considering the bill I don't feel like having another go anytime soon.

Anglesey is not the most gastronomic of places, so when we stumbled across the Oyster Catcher we were pleasantly surprised. The massive, modern building loomed out of the sea mist and immediately we decided to pull over and investigate. The building itself was designed Haf Haus, a German company famed for its large, glass-fronted, environmentally friendly buildings. It really stands out, particularly on an island which still boasts mainly 60's architecture! The building itself boasts a bar, cafe and restaurant so we decided to stop for lunch. The Oyster Catcher is the brainchild of the Timpson Family, more famous for shoe repairs than fine dining! However, they decided to set up the OC as a chefs academy to help young unemployed people on the island, the idea originally stemming from a visit to Jamie Oliver's Fifteen restaurant in London. With this kind of motivation behind the project and a fantastic building to boot, I was really excited about our lunch here. The menu was large and varied, and many of the dishes were designed and cooked by the cadets. Some of the servers were a little shy but there was obviously some more experienced staff to keep the cadets in check. We started with some focaccia bread and a glass of wine each and all was looking good. However, the mains were a bit of a let down. I went for the mackerel with parsley mash and tomato and mussel casserole. It was fairly tasty but not massive in size. My partner went for one of the specials, the plaice with new potatoes. When it arrived it came as a giant bowl of spuds and a tiny fish. A bit bemused, my boyf went ahead and ate the first side (it took three mouthfuls) but when he turned the fish over there was nothing on the other side! A £13 main dish gone in three bites?? - this can't be right! When the waitress came to clear our plates we mentioned that the fish was very small and on top of this, something had obviously gone wrong in the cooking as one side was missing completely and someone had obviously tried to cover this up by serving it the other way up! We were very polite about our complaint, wanting to feedback to the trainee chefs more than anything. The waitress said she would feedback to the kitchen and the mistake would be rectified in the bill. We didn't get a response, which to be honest I was expecting, and when we finally got someones attention for the bill, we found that 10% had been knocked off his dish alone. A gesture I guess, but not really an appropriate one. I don't often complain in restaurants, and when I do I'm not necessarily expecting this to be reflected in the bill, but some feedback and explanation from the kitchen would have been appreciated. We left feeling a little disappointed as I had really wanted to love this place. I would certainly give it another chance, and urge other people to do the same as what they are trying to achieve here is fantastic, but at the same time, they need to provide better food and service if they want to sustain this project over the long term.

We only booked a few hours in advance of our reservation but as the owner is Vegan herself they were not fazed in the slightest by our dietary requirements and we were given a number of options for each course when we arrived. Starters: We had the tomato tart and soup. Both were lovely and there was a choice of two Vegan soups which came with bread and dairy free spread. Main Course: We had the Thai vegetable green curry with a dhaal side and the pancake. The curry itself and the side of dhaal were great. Both really flavoursome and tasty. The pancake was fantastic and was served as a burrito with mushrooms, spinach, couscous and other delights inside. I had it with rice but you can have chips or rosemary & lemon potatoes instead. Dessert: Not that we had much room for dessert after the excellent starter and main course! We all had the chocolate cake was absolutely wonderful! Moist with lots of tasty chocolate icing on top. Apparently it's always Vegan too. They gave us the option of either whipped soya cream (which we chose) or sorbet to accompany it. There were also lots of Vegan wines marked clearly on the menu. All in all a super meal in a lovely environment, served by great staff. Highly recommended. We will be going back regularly.
