We have visited LATAVERNA Llandudno on 5 occasions during September and October 2010, And attempted to eat here an 3 other occasion but was fully booked so we would advise you book your table in advance especially in the season and Fridays/Saturday evenings as it can fill up quickly.
We found this place to be very tastefully decorated very modern and very clean and well set out, good sized dinning tables and plenty of space, it is not a huge place but a nice fair sized dinning area/room with a open hatch kitchen allowing you to see part of the kitchen area, The menu is well presented with good selection of starters and mains plus a wonderful tasty very temping desert menu, prices on starter range from approx £3.00 for garlic breads up to approx £6.50 for more filling starters, we have had the prawn cocktail several times and have to say it was the best we have ever had in North Wales and it our top 3 all time!, excellent very tasty large prawns and plenty of them served on a bed of fresh Lettuce, cherry tomato, cucumber and a wedge of lemon and a very nice homemade Marie Rose sauce, We highly recommend this starter and order some bread too its very fresh and probably one of the best breads we have had in any Italian Restaurant, we have had between us several different mains and enjoyed them all (some much more than others) but still all very well presented, good size portions and very tasty dishes, the Fish options are my favourite, served with new potatoes and good selection of Fresh vegetables (salad or chips/pasta optional) other mains start from approx £7.50 and range up to approx £18.00 with plenty of pasta options/ pizzas and Risotto, Chicken, Pork, Steak Fillet or sirloin steak dishes and a few fish dishes with Squid or King Prawn dishes also available.
If you still have room after your meal the desserts are top class and very well presented all made fresh.
Good selection of drinks but no draft beers only bottles but fair prices and good selection of Wines.
To Finnish of your wonderful meal they have a very nice fresh coffee making equipment which looks like it is a very expensive piece of kit and knocks out amazing fresh ground very tasty coffees, a little on the expensive side for a standard cup of coffee especially if you like to enjoy a 2ND cup but still worth at least one cup.
The only negative comments we could say about this excellent restaurant is the service can let themselves down, mostly little things like forgetting to bring the cream for the coffees and ice in the glasses when bringing Magners cider and they have sent the wrong meal on one occasion and another side order they forgot to make in time on another occasion which the chef did bring to the table himself and apologized for the delay which we thought was a nice to do so.
On one occasion we did bring up a few points about the service to the owner/chef but he does not take kindly to any points on constructive criticism which was a shame really as we would have probably been back at least another 5 times or more by now but he made us feel a little uneasy, we understand being in business ourselves it can be hard to listen to any type of criticism but we only learn from the negative comments and its not cheap we spent well over £200 in five visits so felt it fair to point out a few valid points about the service and we waited until all other customers had left to not make a seen or/and disturb over dinners.
Still having said all that we would still very strongly recommend this restaurant to all who appreciate good quality fresh food! It is by far the very Best Italian we have visited in N.Wales to date and don't be put of by our 3 star rating it really is five star food but deducted one star for service and the other for the way the owner deals with issues/comments/feedback. read more
