We stayed in nearby Deganwy for a few days. Wanted to grab some good and fresh oysters. And this seems the place to get some good stuff, so we had a quick drive and were lucky to catch one of the very few parkings spaces here at the port. Got a bunch of fresh oysters, some crab meat and some shrimp. The oyster of course we ate right away. The shrimp and the crab meat we've had for dinner later that day. Quality was great. Fresh, smooth and creamy oysters. The crab meat was lovely sweet, full of flavours. With the shrimp we made some tasty seafood dip. Really a nice place to grab some fresh and tasty seafood. Apparently the only mussels traditionally fished in the UK are raked by these guys! You can preorder fish and shellfish online, or if you're a tourist like me you can buy from the Ready-to-Eat selection at the counter. They're tiny pots of unseasoned boiled and chilled seafood from about 2.5-4£ a pot depending on whether it's prawns, mussels, cockles, whelks, crayfish, etc. Perfectly size for sampling if you can't commit or want to sample them all. There are condiments available for you to season after, but I prefer to eat them as-is, since plain boiled fresh seafood is already have their own briny flavor. I have to confess that I don't eat mussels. Nothing to do with the taste, in fact I've never really tasted one, but they just don't look like something I'd want to eat. However both my wife and daughter love them so I'll have to share their experiences. The town of Conwy has a long history of mussel farming going back generations and traditional methods of harvesting are still used. The mussels are farmed in the estuary, collected with long handled rakes then cleaned on boats before being brought ashore to the processing plant on the Quay. They are then purified before being sent onto market. There are around 20 fishermen involved and they harvest around 300 tonnes a year. The mussels have a very good reputation and are considered to be both bigger and tastier than those from other areas. The Conwy musselmen were the last to continue using traditional farming methods and although this is now changing this is a business worth supporting. read more

I discovered the shop today, it was by chance, but the best discovery by far. I am very fond of seafood and mussels are one of my favourite kind, i bought a 2KG bag for £5.00 which i think is excellent value, if you consider what the supermarkets have to offer ! Buying the mussels in their natural state allows you to cook them which ever way you prefer. the quality and taste was superb, there are not enough superalatives to compliment these exceptional mussels, i have eaten mussels in a lot of different countries, these are the best by far.
