First time dining here after many years of coming up to Gunnison. First strike is it is a walk up and order joint. I don't like these because you are under pressure to decide what you want as well as those with you as a line forms behind you. Sit down with menu lets you review the options so you get what you want. The food? It was a medium "OK". Do not get the Mac N Cheese. It has something added that takes away any cheese flavor. It is over priced for what it is. And it is served in a jar! Three meals totaled well over $77 with drinks and a slice of bland cheese cake. Also tipping should be added AFTER the meal. Not at the register prior to getting the meal. You don't know what you are getting and the tip should be able reflect that. Have cash to tip and make your decision on how much. After the lowest amount of tip selected it came out to $96 for the three meals. That was the cost to find out I will never be going back. BBQ should have flavor. This missed the mark. Again, avoid the Mac N Cheese. Kraft Cheese and shells would have been an improvement. Just letting you know before you shell out your money. Staff was friendly. read more

On my back from the western slope of Colorado, I stopped in Gunnison for dinner. Gunnison is a college town for Western Colorado University, so I expected lots of pizza shops. Then I found 5B's with a pink color scheme and a large American flag. They have a nice menu of BBQ standards with sandwiches and burgers. Full bar with a range of beers. An adjacent patio with unbrellas was next to garage doors. You can get full service at the bar. Otherwise, order at the counter, get a table sign and your order will be delivered to you. Good prices, 2 meats & 2 sides for $20. Generous portions. I got a Tangerine Blonde draft to start. Then beef brisket and pulled pork with baked beans, fried okra and a cheddar biscuit. Great BBQ and we came in on a Tuesday which is rib day at $2/rib which lead to us getting a rack. It's me, my spouse and daughter and we added two 16oz side and it filled us up with leftovers. Driving down 285 there isn't much to choose from but in Gunnison there are a bunch of options. We stopped here since it was right on the main road. It does have a couple tables on the patio very open concept. Not a ton of parking. You order at the front counter, then take the number back to your table. The menu has great options and is reasonably price for a town. I opted for the pulled pork sandwich and the smoked mac & cheese. I was surprised that mac & cheese is an up charge and considered to be a premium side. Not as many side options as I'd hoped to choose from. The food was under season and a little lackluster. Neighborhood spot but not somewhere I would go again if I was driving through. My friend got a burger, which was undercooked in the middle and when she brought it up to the server at the bar, he took it back and didn't offer to remake or refund her meal. read more

Came in on Memorial Day. Cut kids chicken strip up and was completely raw. They just refried it and sent it back in pieces. Also my wife's pork ribs were raw too. If you're headed to Black Canyon of the Gunnison from Denver you're probably going to get hungry along the way, and in the event that that does happen, you should probably stop at this BBQ place because it hits all the marks and is overall a pretty awesome spot. Plenty of parking, plenty of seating, super clean inside, a friendly crew, decent prices and everything we tried was delicious. Ii hadn't been before and kind of wanted to sample a lot of things so I just ordered a plate with a variety of their meats. Some brisket, chicken, sausages, pulled pork and a single rib. Everything was on point, and I'd order it all again, but the rib really stood out. They had em on special for $1.50 per rib, and I ordered it as an afterthought but it turned out to be the best thing on the plate. Perfectly smoky and literally fell complete off the bone with no effort at all. Fantastic. Long story short, this is exactly what you should expect from a good BBQ joint and you can rest assured that if you stop in you'll be pleased with the food. The ambiance is less than desired. The front door was open and there were many flies. I was so disappointed in the smoked macaroni and cheese - couldn't taste any cheddar and, for me, it was very unappetizing. My husband's meat plate was average. Service was good. I went here twice in 3 days in Gunnison. The first day I ordered the taternater. It was a loaded potato with cole slaw, pulled pork and barbecue sauce. The pulled port in particular was excellent. The next day I ordered the 3 meat combo meal that came with beans, cornbread and another side and I chose fries. The chicken was great, brisket a little fatty but good flavor and the sausage was good. The beans were good but could have used maybe some Barbeque sauce and red pepper maybe. The Barbeque sauce tasted like some of the sauces you get in KC (tomato based with sugar and garlic) but the ones I like best also have a touch of red pepper. Overall all really good. I would recommend a little bit of red pepper in bbq sauce, beans and sausage and it would have been 5 stars. Recommended if you like Barbeque! read more

I hardly ever write reviews, unless a place really impresses me-- well this place did! I'm from St. Louis, so I know what I'm talking about when it comes to bbq. The ribs and brisket were fantastic, a little fatty but so flavorful. The smoked Mac, 10 stars, and even the coleslaw, an easy but staple in bbq, beautifully simple. Even the cornbread was moist and came with a heavenly cinnamon butter, the perfect "sweet treat" to end the meal. Most places out in Colorado have good meat or good sides, not both-- this place does! I wish I didn't live so far, this would be a staple spot for me. Plus it was under $30 for 2 meat 2 sides and a beer. Keep it up guys! read more

The picturs looked good, but that was the only good thing about it. Super dry meats, like super dry. The sides onion rings... Greasy, cold no flavor. Texas toast was a joke, it was just cold bread that was lightly toasted. It will make you sick to your stomach a few hours after. Spent about 100 with a good tip.
