511 jeans are crap. Every pair I have has a hole in it. I never get holes in my 501's. I'd never recommend 511's!

I was shopping around for a life jacket and found some online, but since I was in the area, I…read morethought I'd stop into this Dick's Sporting Goods in Gilbert. They have soooo much merch!! You'll probably end up buying more than what you plan on, so be ready. This location boasts 2 floors, with everything from kayaks to baseball bats and shoes for every sport to clothing for the kiddos. They carry major brand names such as Yeti, Hydroflask, Nike, Puma, etc. I was pleasantly surprised to also find ratchet tie downs for pick up trucks in the kayak/SUP section. They had a great sale going on before the 4th. I was able to snag my life vest for just $20! I won't be using it too much, but you gotta be safe no matter what! I was browsing around and trying on different brands when an employee asked if I needed any help. I politely declined. I did drop a star due to the fact that when I checked out, there was only one register open. There were about 3 of us behind the person who was paying. Eventually, another register opened up so I was out and about in a few minutes. I would have also liked to see scanners throughout the store to check prices. There is an abundance of parking in the lot outside. Employees are friendly and they offer a military discount when you show your valid I.D. I would recommend coming in for all of your sporting good needs!

I'm not one to usually write a review about sporting stores, I usually just review places I eat at…read more I would, however, like to write a very nice experience I had today around 12:30 - 1 PM ish when I had to find a new mug/tumbler to bring to my Krav Maga classes. There was quite a selection, and I was looking for a specific design so I looked for an employee who went through a lengthy process on the hunt for the tumbler I picked out. I unfortunately do not remember his name, but he had blonde hair I believe and was fairly tall compared to me lol. I have OCD, so I analyze every detail when I buy something. Or just everything in general. After he had recommended the Yeti Rambler and a few others, I ultimately decided on that one. This was when the probably most odd adventure at Dick's began of finding the tumbler color I liked that had the least amount of markings, dings, imperfections, etc. There were quite a few of that specific tumbler color, & it took a decent amount of time to finally decide on one. After pulling out every color of that size of mug I decided on, I narrowed it down to a few, but was still struggling due to some very minor markings I saw. I had asked for his help more than a few times to see if he could spot any markings on them and he crouched onto the floor with me, looking at them and pointing out what appeared to be the best option while I rotated the tumbler to look at it with the lighting at certain angles. Not only did this employee take the time and patience to help me, but went as far as getting me a wet and dry paper towel to see if a tiny dot of a smudge would wipe off -spoiler: it did indeed come off- but I really sincerely appreciate how understanding he was about the situation and how far he went to help me. I'd imagine a majority of people on this planet would go mad trying to help someone pick a tumbler for over an hour, but there was no judgment on his part and was very kind. I also left with an awesome tumbler thanks to him, and slightly embarrassed/guilty for the probably agonizing experience he had to go through lol, but still was very kind throughout all of it. Here is the "the chosen one" I have happily brought home!

We went to REI and they did not have the gear so they sent us here. They do have equipment for rentals but a limited supply so call ahead to ask. I rented backpacking gear here for a Havasupai trip after calling ahead because I hadn't backpacked…read morein years and wanted guidance on what equipment I needed. When I arrived to pick up my reservation, none of the gear had been prepared. I spent over an hour in the store while employees searched for equipment, including the cookset I had reserved. I was eventually given a Jetboil stove and separate cookset, but no one explained any compatibility limitations and the only instruction was provided after I specifically asked. On the trip, while boiling water for dinner, the stove caught fire and we extinguished it immediately. When I returned the gear and explained what happened, I was told I would be charged for the damaged equipment. The most disappointing part of the experience was the interaction with the owner. Rather than discussing what happened professionally, he told me he couldn't believe someone could be "so stupid" and that the employees were all laughing at me in back for not knowing that I could only use one of the two pots they rented me with the stove and said I should have Googled it before renting it (not that the brand or model was listed on their website). Mistakes happen. Had this been limited to a reservation mix-up or equipment issue, I probably would not be writing this review. What turned me away permanently was the way the situation was handled afterward. As a final note, the store called me three days after I returned the equipment because it had not been checked back into their inventory system and they wanted to confirm I had actually returned it, so their inventory management issues didn't seem like a one off.

Huge BPS store! This one is in Mesa. We were staying pretty close by, could've technically walked…read moreover had it not been so hot. Spent a couple of hours one afternoon. We love visiting BPS's, it's like going into the wilderness without the prep and mosquito bites. We're only semi-outdoors people of the paved or at least graveled/dirt-road variety, and not too much rugged terrain please for my getting-old bones. Pros: - It's for pros, hence the name, lots of specialty brands. - I feel like I'm a pro when I come here, only need to trick me. - My kids get such a kick out of this place, it's got all the cool gadgets to make camping and other outdoors adventures high-tech and fun - So many taxidermy animals, my wife hates seeing them and get squeamish, but the kids and I find them fun to look at. I personally think they're cool. Too bad I can't bring one home. - Some things on sale are pretty reasonably priced. - Huge place to walk around in, get your exercise done indoors in perfectly temp-controlled environment. - Clean bathrooms and the whole place is kept up nicely. Cons: - Some items are definitely full-retail prices - mostly hiking shoes, water sandals, didn't see much if any discounts for those. - Other items seem even higher than retail at other stores - grills, camping equipment, some knives (although I don't know prices for those as much). All in all, a great place to visit, stick to sale stuff and you can find some decent to good deal for your next outdoors adventure. Service from staff is good if you need help, just ask, otherwise, it's more a hands-off, self-serve, wander-as-you-like type of place which I prefer anyway.
