I been driving thru 456 fish for a while now, and finally a few days ago decided to go w some friends, on a Monday. The place was pretty empty, but I'm sure most places are on weekdays. We sat at the bar and they had happy hr. Yay! I believe from 5-6:30 every day. our bartender was great! And friendly.also some appetizer are half off, wine $5 . We had a great time, I can't wait to go back and actually have dinner there. The location is nice , parking sucks a little. Inside very nice decor and clean. I took a peak at the menu and it looks good. we got for appetizer calamari, crab egg rolls " super yum" and sashimi ( delicious!) great variety of wines and mix drinks. Update: there's actually parking in the back of the restaurant so it's not bad at all. This spot has become our regular get together :) the bartender girl there is the best!!! read more

Oh so good! The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars is because the hubby was offended by the hostesses approach when she asked him to remove his hat. But he gave them some perspective and the staff were receptive to his feedback. The manager even gave us a dessert on the house, which they definitely didn't need to do. Everything I had was delightful. And I had a lot! First, I had the calamari. Super tender, well seasoned, and super crunchy. My dream calamari trifecta. Very rare and hard to find. Fin &Tonic in Suffolk also have some dope calamari. The only thing I missed were the tendrils. These were only rounds. I also had the langoustines and the eggplant rolitini. The langoustines came with this garlicky, crunchy crostini. It was like a big crouton and it was so good with the eggplant! The langoustines shone on their own and needed no accompaniment for me! It was perfect! The eggplant was balanced perfectly with the crostini. My hubby had the bone in pork chop cooked medium. It was huge and delicious! So juicy and tender. Hubby did say it needed salt though. Oh I also had the house punch (cool) and the rose margarita (so so good). I will be back again and again! read more

Went for Brunch 1/21/18 reservation at 12 noon. Don't be in a hurry it took 1 Hour for our 2 omelets to come out! When I asked my server Jon after 45 minutes he departed & never returned! Had to ask a manager to assist & BAM! he promptly delivers. Added heart burn, we purchased 1 Bloody Mary; charged for two premium drinks the Bill was $51 and it wasn't worth all that...very disappointing. Needs improved service providers in front of house & kitchen. From our experience; not recommended. Will never go back. read more

Had a wonderful time last night with a great happy hour and dinner to celebrate our anniversary. Started with happy hour cocktails of cosmo and Manhattan, and a bowl of fabulous crab soup (more like a bisque) with huge chunks of crab. Then we had our dinner with the half off bottle of wine. We got the rockfish special and flounder stuffed with crabmeat which were prepared exquisitely. And plenty to take home. We also enjoyed a creme brulee that was a perfect ending to a great meal. All covid protocols were followed and very few diners made it feel safe. read more

This was our first time trying 456 Fish, and we were not disappointed. The restaurant has a really great atmosphere. The attention to detail on the interior design and maintenance/cleanliness was certainly appreciated. The food was excellent and was prepared in a timely manner. Our server, Cameron B., provided superior service. He was very friendly and attentive, without being overbearing. If he is available, I would highly recommend requesting him. read more

I entered and was immediately greeted by the maitre d', (there is a dress code even on Sunday, no ball caps especially). My father in law didn't want to take his ball cap off so they let us sit outside in the patio. The maitre d' set up a table for 5 of us outside which wasn't too bad (just a bit awkward). I ordered "The Gilley" (over easy eggs, bacon, potatoes with an english muffin). The first try came out with sausage instead of bacon but they fixed that problem immediately. The food took about 15 minutes to arrive at our table and the presentation was very nice. The taste was alright but I feel like they rushed the entrees a bit. The eggs were perfect (over easy), bacon was perfect, English muffin wasn't buttered which wasn't too big of a deal. The potatoes were very good they just weren't cooked enough, they had a weird hard consistency that I didn't like. Overall the cook could've just taken their time. The food came out scary fast, so that's an indication of under cooked food or previously cooked food that was heated up. Both just as bad. *I'd try their main dinner courses instead of the Sunday brunch. This isn't a brunch spot I feel like it should stick to fine dining. read more

Not worth it. Ate here last night and wasn't really into it. The restaurant had so many open tables, which seemed strange for a Saturday night. We were seated at a large table for just a party of 2, which seemed unnecessary. We also had 4 different servers over the course of our meal. It was confusing but no biggie. One of our waitress brought our appetizers. We did enjoy those. But the main courses were just meh. The chicken was sweet and the bed of risotto it sat on was cheesy. You'd think the flavors would compliment each other. They didn't at all. Come for the appetizers and a drink, read more

I ate the Crab Norfolk Omelet. Pros: Sunday crowd -- well there is none lol. Staff was friendly and they had their "regulars". They greeted me with the same energy as if I was a regular. Cons: the food came out Luke warm. I did not send it back, they would have made me another, but I just left it as is. Overall: the bisque plus lumps of crab made the dish tasty and hit all the right nodes. read more

Downtown Norfolk Restaurant Week. so having never been to 456 Fish, we took advantage of the dinner deal. 1st course, my wife tried the she crab soup - a bowl of it. We shared it. The soup is more bisque than soup with chucks of blue crab. My wife felt one could make a meal out of the she crab soup with a salad and a glass of wine. I had the calamari - a plate full of calamari. I prefer them crisper, but these were plentiful and delicious. 2nd course, she had the huge crab cake, size of a tennis ball - potato chip crusted - with wilted spinach, garlic mash and remoulade sauce. She loved it. I had the seafood etouffee - ball of sticky rice in the middle of a large bowl, surrounded by open mussels, clams, with bits of crawfish and chorizo rounds in a delicious sauce with just the right heat on the back of the palette. I requested a soup spoon to eat it. If you like shell fish, this is it. A fabulous dish. For dessert she had the chocolate chip cheesecake - nice slice of creamy goodness. I had a slice of the chocolate cherry terrine - death by dark chocolate. You'll need cups of coffee to wash these desserts down. The service was impeccable. We will be back. I'd also like to give a shout-out to their Wednesday Night Date Dinners currently (Winter '21). Share an appetizer, two main courses, share a dessert for $50, period. read more

I have no complaint about the food at this restaurant. Our meal was quite good and attractively presented. My issue stems from the fact that when the waiter delivered our water, he up-ended an entire glass on my companion's lap. It was an accident and the waiter was embarrassed and apologized throughout the meal. My issue is with the management. I was surprised that a manager did not immediately come to our table. I was even more surprised when we received the bill. We were charged full price for her meal. What awful customer service. I aske3d to see the manager who apologized but offered no consideration. Finally I asked for the meal to be comped and after some thought, it was. If I was running a restaurant, I would have immediately offered the guests something as an apology. Maybe a free dessert. I shouldn't have had to ask. read more

Went out to dinner on a Friday night. Our waiter brought us 2 glasses of water & my husband ordered a soda, which was brought shortly after. My husband asked for straws and that's when i noticed the lipstick on my glass. My husband looked at his glass of soda, and that also had lipstick on it. Both glasses were replaced but honestly, after that we were turned off. For the price they charge, cleanliness should be a top priority all the time, not just during this difficult time. read more

If you are going to splurge on seafood, this is the place to spend all of your money. If I could afford to hire the chef to be my personal cook, I would do it in a heartbeat. The food is beautifully plated, cooked to perfection with high quality ingredients, and tasted fresh. We ordered the calamari as an appetizer. The calamari had great flavor and it wasn't greasy or overly battered. It was served with 2 sauces and I prefer the pomodoro sauce over the aioli. As my entrée, I ordered the blackened tuna, medium rare, served with roasted garlic mashed potatoes and succotash. The flavor of the tuna was mild and prepared just as I ordered. Mashed potatoes were rich and creamy and the succotash wasn't bad. I had a bite of my friend's risotto and fell in love. It was so creamy and light. I would've been happy with just a bowl of their risotto. As for the drinks, we ordered the black sky and pear blossom. They were both tasty, but the pear blossom was stronger in flavor. Service was outstanding. Even though the restaurant wasn't busy, our waiter was attentive, sharp, and professional. The décor is beautiful and definitely more of a romantic/intimate atmosphere. The front door had a sign stating proper attire is required. My friend was dressed casual for an upscale restaurant, but I think they let it slide due to the weather and how slow it was. This place may not keep your wallet happy, but it is definitely worth it. read more

Came here for restaurant week brunch (great deal by the way). I got the sausage with gravy to start which was solid, nothing terribly special, but I knew I wanted this over the yogurt with granola which looks about as big as a medium sized serving spoon's worth. For my main, I got the Norfolk omelette. This was super filling and had way more seafood packed into the omelette than I was expecting. The side potatoes were fairly average for me. Also got a bloody mary which was very yummy and perhaps my favorite part of brunch. Seems like their brunch drinks are always a great deal! Service was good, and the overall ambiance of the restaurant is on the fancier side in my opinion. Maybe it was because it was restaurant week, but the place was packed- so make a reservation before you come. read more

Food was good, server was great. But was completely overcharged. Original blackened chicken pasta entre - $24. Added 6 shrimp and was charged ANOTHER $24, the price of a full entre. Completely unacceptable. I won't fall for that again, nor will I visit again. Of course I still tipped my server since this policy is not his fault. But it is a calculated, deceitful little tactic. Definitely plan to share this experience far and wide with friends who go here often. Very disappointing experience after what had been a great day with friends. Never again. read more

A night of celebration for my wife's birthday, we went here for dinner before heading to Chrysler Hall to see Celtic Woman just before their tour was suspended. 456 Fish is nothing short of a top-notch, 5-star restaurant. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by three employees and each one had a smile on their face. Our server was Geene and she was a rockstar! Always smiling, always courteous and you could tell she loves her job by her attentiveness. I don't think we've been to a restaurant where the food was plated as beautifully as here. My wife had the bronzed rockfish on a bed of mango salad with shoestring potatoes and I had the seafood etouffee. I don't have a negative thing to say about either dish. Full of flavor and simply delicious. Fried shrimp began the meal and we ended with the aptly named Chocolate Sin Torte. You will not regret your visit to this place! read more

My husband and I came here last weekend after going to a movie - our original dinner plans were foiled because the place we had our eye on was closed on Sunday night, and we didn't realize until it was too late. So, we decided to be adventurous and try somewhere new. We felt a little under-dressed in jeans and sweaters, but we weren't denied service due to dress code. We would have figured that out had I taken the time to read everything, but I was at the point where I was so hungry, I was only focused on the food, not the ambiance when I was reading over Yelp. Our server was very friendly and helpful, and he made some great recommendations, and was able to accommodate my request for alterations to the crab cakes. Essentially, I requested the dinner option in the appetizer portion, and he was able to work that out with the manager, which I very much appreciated. My husband ordered the cajun pasta off of the specials menu, and very much enjoyed his meal. It was a large portion, with chicken and shrimp and pasta in a nice cajun sauce. As I previously said, I got the crab cake, and it was delicious! We also ordered the calamari for an appetizer, and that was nicely done - lightly fried rings, and served with a marinara dipping sauce and another sauce - it was green and my husband enjoyed it very much. We also ordered dessert - we don't usually. Billy's Cola Cake was too intriguing to pass up, and I'm glad we ordered it! I do love my pralines, and the icing on this torte was nicely reminiscent of pralines in New Orleans. Overall, nice place, I would definitely recommend it if you're looking for somewhere upscale. read more

I took my parents here for their early anniversary dinner, and it also happened to be the last day of Norfolk Restaurant Week, so that was definitely a plus! (3 course meals for $30). I made reservations for 8pm, but we were seated a little earlier because it wasn't that busy. The lighting was very dim, which made it a little more difficult to read the menus. We were given waters right away and ordered drinks. I loved their mojitos; I find it difficult to find ones as tasty as a Mexican restaurant. As my appetizer, I ordered the she crab soup. It was very creamy with a delicious amount of lump crab meat and Old Bay seasoning. I would rate their she crab soup among the best I've had in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area! For my meal, I ordered the potato chip encrusted crab cakes. It came with two, and they were much smaller than most crab cakes I've had in this area, which may be because it was part of the restaurant week special. I really liked the extra crunch that the chips added to the crab cakes. The vegetables and mashed potatoes were a great pairing for the crab cakes as well. Now for dessert...the crème brûlée was to die for!! It's hard for me to describe, but all I can say is you have to try it! This place was delicious, and I definitely look forward to trying it again! read more

Walked over to 456 Fish after seeing a show at the Chrysler Hall. No reservations. They were booked for dinner because of the after dinner crowd. So my friend and I sat at the bar. The bartender was welcoming and and shook us two perfectly made dirty martinis. In fact, they were SO perfect we had to have 3- "since we're Ubering home". We decided to do appetizers and all I can say is "Wow"! I had the prosciutto wrapped in mozzerella on basil and greens drizzled in a balsamic reduction. IT WAS AMAZING! A delicious spin on caprese salad (my fav). My friend had the ahi tuna and literally sat there "mmm"ing with her eyes closed for a good 20 seconds after her first bite. We both loved our choices. (See pics) The menu is extensive and seemed to have something for everyone. We both thought the prices were very reasonable for an upscale restaurant serving QUALITY delights! The host asked us to leave after she saw my friend wearing an offensive shirt AFTER we paid for our drinks. The host greeted us and should've asked us to leave BEFORE we paid for their Crushes. Crowd at the time were middle aged white folks and a lady clapped after we left. Crush score - presentation: 3 originality: 1 overall taste: 2 overall score 6. Oh and they asked me to remove my hat. Host and server was very nice yet the manager had a very bad attitude, I feel it was because he saw 5 young black women sitting at the table "complaining because we can't pay for our food" when that wasn't the case at all I took one bite of the appetizer and asked if I could get something different because I did not like it his response was no you're going to pay for it. The only thing I liked about my "meal" was the bread and when we asked for more they brought out Burnt bread. I took one bite out of my seafood pasta and did not like it, So I left it there and did not eat anymore. I at this point was over it but my friends were not happy with there meals so they asked for the manager a second time and he refused to come he just walked the other way... I realize I am not a gourmet chef or a "food snot", but last night's dinner was a shocker for me. First let me say that my friend enjoyed her dinner immensely and the wait staff was very kind and extremely helpful. BUT I ordered the Baked Fresh SCALLOP (no S on that word, so you may be able to figure out where I'm going with this). But I unfortunately did not catch that grammatical omission. When my meal arrived I could not find any scallops. Lots of lovely big shrimp (which were great), but where the heck are my scallops? The waiter comes to the table and I ask him about the absence of those scrumptious little darlings. He points at my plate and says, "right there". I look back at my plate and I see one round white thing underneath the sauce. Well, lo and behold there's ONE single, lonely, lovely scallop. I asked the waiter "WTH? Why didn't the menu say it was 1 single scallop?" At that point a very kind lady from the kitchen stopped by the table. She explained that it was a FRESH scallop (so fresh that it took a knife, fork and spoon to get that little baby to release itself from the shell it was living in). And, she added she had made sure the menu said BAKED FRESH SCALLOP (sans the S). No offense but when I pay $32 for a scallop dinner, I really don't mean A scallop dinner. I truly LOVE scallops and, honestly, it was not the best ONE I have ever eaten. Anyway, the rest of my meal was fine. But I was bummed out. I love me some scallops. Many thanks to our waiter who found a Moscato for me that was wonderful! Maybe I should have ordered 3 more of those instead of the meal. I think restaurants should remember that not everyone who walks into a downtown restaurant is a connoisseur. Most of us are just everyday little people who are spending their hard earned bucks at your establishment. Just sayin'! EDITED INFO: Raised rating to 3 stars read more

Good meal during restaurant week! I know this isn't always the best time to judge a restaurant but I enjoyed my soft shell crab first course and filet main course (yes, I know -- at a restaurant with "fish" in the title...was deciding between this and he lobster mac and cheese). The ice cream for dessert was a little underwhelming but seemed to be a normal dessert option for he downtown Norfolk restaurant week menus. Let my start off my saying this is 2019 and even if it weren't free speech Is something that's been around a while. So please explain to me how someone who is willing to spend their hard earned money gets kicked out of your establishment for simply wearing a shirt. And why is it that another table made a complaint and they have the authority to get someone removed from a restaurant. I am DISGUSTED. Your only concern should be if your fish is seasoned and you can't even do that right. So. I say all that to say this. I will never be returning to an establishment like this. read more

I'd give 456- Fish a 3 in rating because I was let down that a place that has "Fish" in their name didn't offer raw oysters by the dozen or even half dozen and their seafood just didn't seem that well made. My husband and I were enjoying the 80 degree weather on Sunday when we both decided we would love to have oysters. We had our dog Kirby with us and needed to find a place with outdoor seating. I should've looked at the menu first, but I yelped oyster places with outdoor seating and up popped 456 Fish. We strolled the half mile down Granby from our parked car to the entrance where we were taken to the side of the restaurant to be seated outside. We did get to dine in private but it also felt like we were at times forgotten about. Our waitress came out, and although very friendly, I think was dressed a little bit more for her after work plans than for work. I.e. Her dress was a little on the short side. No matter. I ordered a glass of white Zinfandel and what was brought to me was just a Zinfandel. I asked about this and she said oh I thought you said Zinfandel this is the house Zinfandel we have. We don't carry a white Zinfandel. I was bummed but even more bummed that she didn't offer to take it back or offer me something else. It was kind of like you ordered it so you drink it. We wanted to eat lightly as we had steaks to make at home so we ordered the calamari, a split bowl of their lobster bisque and their his and her oysters. I also ordered the warm goat cheese salad. Every bite of every dish was filled with disappointment. The calamari was not crispy but soggy, like the oil had not been hot enough. The breading was too thick and crumbly. Four oysters, although very tasty ,is an insulting amount for $10. The lobster bisque was far too tomato-y rather than creamy as I've had it at other seafood restaurants. And the goat cheese salad, well I envisioned warmed goat cheese crumbled upon a large salad an instead what I had placed in front of me was a ping pong ball sized of fried goat cheese that was not warm and impossible to break apart and my salad was made for a baby. Our waitress left her shift and walked right past us without saying anything. Then the second girl who was helping her left without saying anything. And then we were forgotten about. We waited, and waited. No one came to check on us or ask if we wanted the check so my husband had to go inside to ask for it. Overall, poor service, poor food, nice atmosphere. The place has potential but I probably won't return. read more
