Which was a big help, saved me an Uber trip. I only wish I had gotten the man's name who came out. Usually anytime you're dealing with a tow truck company it's already a bad day, but not with 40-Tow!! I was searching for quotes to tow my vehicle from Stockton to Salida and the prices were really high from about 10 different companies ranging from 290-405. On top of that they were all giving me 90min-2hr wait time. I was beginning to give up but, luckily I found 40-tow! I called the number and Johnny picked up the phone. I told him the situation and within 3 minutes he beat everyone's quote even the ones discounted by AAA! My car was in my RV parking in less time than the other tow companies waiting time! I had arranged to call him back between 10:30am and 11am and let him know if I would need his services. I called him at about 10:45 and maybe about 15 minutes passed and he was there! It probably wasn't even that long. He was kind, courteous and professional. He managed the tow and his customer service was excellent. I was charged a very reasonable price to tow a heavy duty truck. My brother and I restore vintage trailers as a hobby. Typically we're able to tow them ourselves easily, however on this particular occasion we were mislead on the degree of water damage to the walls, the reason all of this is relevant is because I found myself towing several thousand pounds of lopsided rotten wood and metal. The father son duo were able to come and not only tow a rapidly disintegrating lump on wheels, but were able to come help me quickly and efficiently all at an incredible price. While I certainly don't enjoy being stuck, it was the best of a bad situation that I ever could have hoped for. $40 my A$$ its $40 to hook up to your vehicle and then another $35 to go 5 miles. So thats the $75 plus tow. Bad advertising. Do they not know word of mouth can be a bad thing for a business, and i have a few bad things to come out of my mouth about them. I called $40 Tow thinking what most of us would think, I only had needed my car towed 4 miles , so $40 sounded reasonable, but nope! Luckily, when I called I asked if it was only going to cost $40. He replied no that's just for it to be hooked up!! Wow, then another $35 dollars to to take it 4 miles! They need to be called $75 Tow for short distances .... They get 5 thumbs down and no stars ! NO!!! Had an emergency and called them out because they supposedly charge $40 to tow locally. When he got there, he hooked my car up and then proceeded to tell me it would be an additional charge per mile.... um? whatever.. I was desperate. When my car arrived at the second shop my car was leaking oil everywhere and "Mr. Walker", the tow guy, at first tried deflecting the blame, saying it had to be the previous owner or it had pre existing problems.. however I've owned the car for over a year and a half. Eventually he was made aware that according to American Chevrolet and cameras that the car had not been leaking the 3 days it was parked in their bay.. also he wasn't aware (at first) that having a full diagnostics test done just the day before I knew my car had no issues in regards to this, my car has never had oil problems. So.. to make an even longer story shorter they offered to tow my car to ANOTHER shop to have it quoted. UMM I said hell no. Why? so you can damage another part? Thats how i was put in this postion by letting you tow it.. Needless to say I'm still, today, without car SOLEY because I had to order an oil pan and WAIT for it to be delivered/installed. Luckily the shop owner is helping me out while I get all my ducks in order...... what a NASTY situation. It could have been handled ENTIRELY different but these are consequences for bad business actions..... call scenic tow instead. read more
