Fast, easy, and got the yelp advertised $28 cash, out the door. Called before hand to confirm, no appointment was needed, just needed to mention the yelp ad. Report was sent electronically, on site, and I received a receipt also. The guy was friendly and efficient. One car was ahead of me, and I waited less than 10 minutes total. (on a weekday) Amazing! As easy as filling up my gas tank. Thanks! read more

Fast quick easy. Only downside is if someone has a clunker in front of you otherwise takes about 10 min per car. Get checked before going to AAA! read more

Super friendly, easy and quick service. Great price and location. Annoying task was made Painless

Jason was efficient and friendly. He gave me the price "out the door" up front, so no surprises. I have used their services for years and have always been very satisfied. read more

Excellent service as always. Fast, efficient. Cash only. Only if you mention Yelp do you get the great discount on both regular smog test -and for my other car that needed a STAR test! 2 in one day! And they are a STAR station even though that's not advertised.. read more

I had a great experience there. My car had been idling high (probably too high to pass the smog test) but the gentleman fixed that problem before administering the test. My car passed with flying colors. read more

This is definitely the cheapest deal on smog I could find in the East Bay. $40.00 out the door. I have a large 2001 Isuzu Trooper (SUV) and incurred no additional costs as it seems some places do. I was in and out in 25 minutes. It looks like only one car can be serviced at a time, so there may be a wait if there are people in front of you. The owner was helpful and answered my questions. The station is located in a very nice Berkeley neighborhood which is perfect for a nice walk while you wait. I have gone to this station two times now and the experience was identical on both occassions. read more

I had a great experience here, even though it is first come, first served, and I had to wait about 15 minutes. Bring CASH and your DMV notice, and you should be set in minutes, providing your car passes. It is a crowded location, hardly any room to wait, they do seem busy, and so is the accompanying gas station, so you might get there when the employees are not in the best mood, I guess. But I know of no cheaper place in the area. They are a "star" shop, if you need that. read more

This place is terrific; I've taken both of my cars here and my daughter's car, too. They honor their prices (w/o requiring you to bring any coupon). The station can get crowded, but the service is well worth the wait. read more

I went to this company's San Pablo Avenue location in Berkeley, I used to go to the old company that was there and figured it would be legit after looking at Yelp reviews of this company. It wasn't legit at all; charged me $74 to smog a 1995 Honda, after giving me "$10 off," and then failed it with a reading over 1100 ppm at 15 mph. Then Dan the attendant offers to buy the car from me as I told him I was selling it, told me the EPG valve was to blame for the smog failure, and offered to take it off my hands without me smogging. When I came back two days later to offer it to him he had forgotten who I was, told me he call me, then never did. I waited a week then took it to my auto shop today and they passed it easily at a price tag of $55. I'd stay away from here. read more

Incompetent -- and just to make up for it, customer unfriendly. They said my car failed one element of the smog check (the ignition timing), which I doubted. I went back and told them I thought they were wrong -- which they denied. I then took the car to Pat's Auto Services, where they confirmed I was correct and that 4 Less had probably done the procedure wrong (failed to disconnect the temperature sensor as specified). Took it back to 4 Less Smog, where it passed. But 4 Less wouldn't apologize, wouldn't pay for the charge at Pat's -- and denied my suggestion that they at least give me a future free test to make up for the four extra hours it took me (waiting twice in line at the DMV). My guess is that 4 Less was just too lazy to do the test correctly and never disconnected the wire -- they told me that pulling the wire didn't make any difference, whereas Pat found it made the entire difference between the correct setting and what 4 Less initially reported. 4 Less now says it was because the timing scale was dirty, and they should have failed it for that -- but a swipe with a rag or paper towel could have solved that if that had been the real problem, plus they never objected to the condition of the scale when they made the wrong reading. read more

CASH ONLY. If you want the Yelp discount you need to mention it from the get go. Dropped my car (AWD) off. Mechanic told me to come back in 20 minutes and my car was done. Came back in 30 and my car passed with no issues. Would use again. read more

It's a smog check. Nobody likes to get it done. This guy is fast and cheap ($28 cash), which is all the reasons you need to have it done here. read more

Really nice service. The woman who runs the show is very kind and helpful. I only waited about 20 minutes on a busy Saturday.

Fantastic service, speed, thoroughness and price. I was helped immediately, given a very low price and out the door in 10 minutes. I'll be back for all my smog checks. read more

I made a yelp account just to rate this place. The price was fair (cheaper than other smog check places around Berkeley), the wait was minimal (it only took 5 minutes for the test to be completed), and the service was friendly. I'll be back read more

Current price is $29.95 + $8.25 certificate, for normal, modern vehicles. No frills, tiny place, but quick, efficient and cheap. For the difference in price compared to the smog place with the fancy waiting room and machine coffee with CoffeeMate, I can have dinner out! read more

great service. very quick, just 10 minutes and just $28 bucks if you get the yelp discount. Guy is very friendly and efficient.

After calling smog check businesses in Alameda that wanted high $50s to low $70s to do the deed, received a quote of $40 "out the door" for my 1996 6-cylinder Camaro, i.e., including the certificate transmitted to DMV . Yep, an OLD car. Hugely enjoyed the drive and the traffic meant my engine was nice & warm when I arrived. Only one person ahead of me, so my test was very quick, less than 20 min. The owner said she has another place in Alameda. Am now telling all my friends, neighbors to GO THERE and not be ripped off, particularly if they have an "old" car. (Yes, I passed. I take good care of my car.) read more

I arrived shortly after 8am, but the system was not up and running yet. I waited for 10 or 15 minutes, which was not so bad because I had my laptop and there is free wifi nearby (not affiliated with the gas station). Daniel Roberts did my smog check. I mentioned the Yelp deal and the total came to $35. read more

No customers before me. Done in 10min. Tip: Use yelp coupon. Then it's $28 with your certificate sent to dmv. Cash only.

Stopped in just before noon and was done in 10 mins! Very friendly quick service. Highly recommended will use again.

I went to the one in Greenbrae, 2080 Redwood Highway, fast, and priced well compared to other Marin testers

I had a very favorable experience with Dan, the technician. I had called earlier in the day to inquiry about charges and if there would be extra for my small truck which seems to be standard,he said no. I also asked what was the latest time I could get there before he closed, he said 5:30p. I gave him my name, arrived by 5:30. There were a few other people in front of me, one man had problems with his truck and Dan gave him advice on what to do. All this took time, which I expected so no problem. It was my turn after 6pm and Dan took me no problem even though he closes at 6. Mine was quick, I paid the $28 cash per the special I mentioned. All very easy and efficient. I recommend this to anyone who wants to save some money (my local mechanic charges $58!), so a little wait was just fine. I will go back again. And kudos to Dan a small business person for offering the website special. read more

I went earlier in the morning on a weekday and it took less than 10 minutes. The guy working there was friendly. Bring cash! I didn't realize this and was happy I stopped at the ATM before. I mentioned yelp and they only charged me $28. read more

called to ask if 1990 car was $28 cash, told yes and if I came in 10 minutes, no wait. drove over, now it was $40 and she said I said 1999 car. the guy was very friendly and nice. the test takes only about 15 minutes. their price is also very reasonable compared to other shops nearby. great experience! highly recommended. one tip though: this place is quite popular. to avoid waiting in line, go either on weekdays or early Saturday morning. and remember to bring cash/check with you. read more

Why do you have to write a bad review about this business.?The man is the only one there doing all the work in this very busy shop, not to mention the impossible maneuvering of cars in and out of the cramped place right next to the gas pumps! He is just the technician and doesn't write the ads on the internet. He has to charge what the business tells him to charge, he has to take the cash or checks that the business tells him to take. Just like any other business, he has to run it the way they want it. And he is not there to negotiate prices but to just do the service for you. So treat him decently, please. Yes, I know you have "precious time" that you don't want to waste, but blaming the sole technician at a very busy shop is just selfish and mean. Have some patience and respect for the overworked people that do these jobs. Just because you woke up in a bad mood don't dump it on innocent others. Do us all a favor and stay home! read more
