    Cobb salad with pulled chicken
    Michelle P.

AMAZING in every way! We were just stopping through on our way back south from Minneapolis. The ambience is casual but nice in a warm, sort of western way. The server was welcoming and had great suggestions. My husband, a Reuben enthusiast, had what he is calling The Best Reuben ever. The corned beef was smoked, which makes it extra good. I had the Cobb salad, which sounds kind of boring, but I added smoked pulled chicken and some of their homemade Bleu cheese dressing. It was so good. The best of all: those fresh cut and perfectly seasoned fries! We don't go that way often, but if we ever do, we will be building in a stop at Third Street Tavern for sure!

Lone Star Brisket sandwich is delish!

Lone Star Brisket sandwich is delish! The tender and smoky brisket is paired well with the sweetness from the caramelized onions. Hubby enjoyed his Beef & Cheese sandwich; he described it as a nice prime rib sandwich topped with queso. Make sure to try all of the BBQ sauces on the table, they're delicious too. Service was top notch. Abby took great care of us and it looked like she took care of everyone else in the restaurant and out on the patio too. She was so friendly, and made her job look so easy too. Ambiance was wonderful, from the curb appeal when we drove up, to the beautiful mixture of old and new throughout the restaurant. We would gladly come back again next time we're in town. Hopefully I remember to ask for seating in their beautiful patio next time.

Brisket platter with mac n cheese and au gratin potatoes

Was in St. Peter for work and a friend recommended this place, very good! I got the brisket platter with mac n cheese and au gratin potatoes plus a mocktail. Brisket was good but a little too fatty for me, but that is just personal preference. Mac n cheese was good, nothing special and I don't think I could order it for the entree but it was a good side. The star of the meal was the au gratin potatoes, these were so cheesy and delicious with a crispy top. Next time, I think I will get the potatoes and the corn bread as a side. Great place!

I was greeted as soon as I sat down at the bar! I ordered the buttermilk chicken sandwich and it did not disappoint! The fries are also delicious! This place is decorated in the best way! Great atmosphere!

This was easily the best meal we have had in a while. Every single thing we ate was fantastic. The bartender recommended the queso, which I would not have ordered, and it was great. I got the chicken sandwich with a side of mac and cheese and both were delicious. My husband got the burger and fries which were also amazing. I would give this place 100 stars!

The best fried pickles I've had. It's a spear wrapped like an eggroll, and it's an awesome twist on a basic app! Chicken Caesar wrap was super dry and bland. Bacon cheeseburger was good. Hand cut fries were good. Wings are very smoked, had I known I would've gotten something else; tasted like I liked a smoker not a fan. They were plump though and would've been bomb (unsmoked IMO). But you must try the fried pickles!!!

Second time we have been here. Love this place! Found it by accident, and will make a special trip to come back! Had the buttermilk chicken & Ruben sandwiches. They were both to die for! Cute restaurant, service was great. Easy place to bring family and kids! Our server Mandy was informative and super friendly.

Last week while driving past St. Peter it was lunchtime and Yelp brought me here. I'm always looking for good 'cue and while Minnesota doesn't have the reputation that say Texas or the rest of the South has for it I was game to give this place a try. I parked on the street where parking is free and walked across to the restaurant. Inside there is a host stand back by an American flag and I was seated immediately in the main dining room that also has the bar. There are other rooms available too for overflow and private parties. I had looked at their online menu before entering and thought about either the brisket or chicken and the printed menu was the same except it had the prices. I decided on the smoked chicken meal with beans and slaw as my two sides that come with it. $22. I kind of winced when I saw that price and their beef options on the menu like brisket and ribs were higher and expected of course. But $22 for a half a bird with two sides is on the very high end that I would expect to pay and this is a restaurant in a very small town in Minnesota. Oh well... While waiting for the meal about 15 minutes, I walked around the restaurant and decided that I liked the vibe here. It has an upscale feel to it and the decor gives it the sense of a cool place to visit for eating and socializing. When the food arrived I immediately noticed the chicken. It was a large half and the skin was kind of shriveled up on the meat which is an unusual look for smoked chicken. The skin was a little dry but no worries though because the chicken was still very good tastewise and yes I did notice the smoke. There was plenty of meat on the bone and their two sauces added to the enjoyment. One is regular and the other is spicy however to me the spicy version was very close to the regular one. A good rich taste with some sweetness. The beans were also rich and robust in flavor and the cole slaw was light and slightly creamy providing a good palate cleanser. My table service was barely average though as I was checked on just once and never had my ice tea glass refilled. When the bill arrived I expected the $22 for the entree but was surprised that my iced tea was $3.75. Again, on the high end of what it should cost. I enjoyed the meal but it was too expensive. I will give an overall score of 4 for the food but caution about the cost.

The Smokin'Hubster and I had a tasty and filling lunch here. We were seated at the bar where Jessica took care of us and Mande the Mint Spanker kept us entertained (it was G-rated, no worries!). I ordered the brisket melt because the only thing better than awesome brisket is awesome brisket with melted cheese! The sandwich was big, the fries were plentiful and the coleslaw tasted very fresh. SH had the Lone Star burger and declared it was very good. We washed it all down with tap Castle Danger Cream Ales; bonus! Other notable items? Easy street parking, lots of seating indoors and out, cloth towels in the restrooms (!), full bar and 12 beers on tap. Everything is super clean and the space easily handles larger groups. If we lived closer, we'd be regulars here. As it is, I'm already looking for a reason to come back to St. Peter so I can try more yummy food at the 3rd Street Tavern!

Went with a friend so we could try a little of everything with The Platter. The Winners: the pulled pork, the chicken, the mac & cheese, and the ribs. Pulled pork was incredibly smoky and flavorful, it didn't need any sauce. Chicken was moist and flavorful as well. Mac was plenty cheesy and creamy. The ribs were tender and pulled off the bone easily. I prefer a more savory rub, but that's just me. The brisket was fine but a little fattier than I prefer, tasted good though. I would have liked to see the sausage be a jalapeño cheddar, to spice up the platter a bit, but it was still good. The cheesy au gratin potatoes were lacking cheese in my opinion. Their sauces are not bad, they are just very pedestrian. I would love to see a spicier one and/or a mustard based one. It's worth a visit and I will be back to try other menu items. Service was great!!

    Can't miss it!

On a recent visit to St. Peter, Minnesota, we asked friends for the best place in town to have dinner. Hands-down they recommended the 3rdStreet Tavern. And be sure to have the ribs, they said. I'm a ribaholic and immediately questioned how good a rib joint in a small midwestern town could be. I must confess that I was more than pleasantly surprised. I was ecstatic. The 3rd St. Tavern is a homey, cozy bar and restaurant that serves fabulous pork ribs smoked to perfection. My only request is that they add several choices to their sugary sweet sauce lineup: a Kansas City style vinegar based sauce, and a Carolina mustard-based sauce. The owner did inform me that we were in the Midwest, but I think Midwesterners would enjoy having a few more sauce choices. To my everlasting surprise, it is but one of only two rib joints in Minnesota I know of that has wet brisket on the menu (wet is a juicier version of the otherwise dry --and tasteless-- brisket) served in most Minnesota restaurants. Kudos to the 3rd Street Tavern! The sides, including a healthy portion of baked beans, coleslaw, and fries, were delicious. Many local beers on tap make this a great place to enjoy an excellent dinner. We'll be back.

I especially loved the open kitchen concept...it was neat to watch them prepare the line-up of meats! I loved reading the "testament" in the entryway. The story of Jimmie and Iris was so sweet, and I appreciated how their legacy is carried throughout the restaurant, especially in the sauce lineup. I ordered the two-meat combo with ribs and pulled pork. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender and packed with flavor. I paired them with "Dixie Red" which was my fav! For sides, the platter came with a cornbread muffin and it was so good I ended up ordering a second (Oops). It had what tasted like a butter or honey butter drizzle and YIKES it was dangerously good. The employees were super friendly and helpful. One in particular greeted every single person coming in and leaving. Loved that. You just don't see that kind of service as often anymore. The restaurant itself was very clean, with plenty of seating available. Fun fact, they also have a food truck, which gives me hope since the location isn't super close to home. Maybe I'll catch them around town, or even bring them in for one of the employee events I help lead!

The host originally seated us in a space that did not fit our party. Then he moved us to a center spot in a long, family-style table with people on either side of us. We had a five year old with us who was overly tired and very spunky and we had to try to keep her focused on us and not our neighboring patrons. Was really not the most appropriate seating for children but we didn't want to ask for yet another table. Soon after we sat down, we discovered that the parties on both sides of us were upset and looking for any employee so they could express their frustration. Seeing as we were all so close, we could hear them complain to others in their parties about the service. We learned shortly that we should have written up our losses early and moved on. We didn't. We ordered our beverages and immediately got water. The rest (2 soft drinks, an iced tea, and a milk) slowly trickled out one by one. The waiter apologized every single time he came to the table about how slow everything was from us being seated to getting our drinks to him coming to take our order. Once the food came out, he was apologizing again for how long that took. He wasn't wrong. As for the food, it was fine. Portions were average to smallish for the price. It wasn't as special as we had hoped it would be based on the descriptions. We each got something different and all said that we wouldn't order that item again. Not that it was bad. It just wasn't good. The best thing we had was the pretzel stick appetizer. That was pretty good but for the price, we wouldn't order it again. Nothing was super memorable except the decor which was super fun to look at. Oh and the very apologetic waiter. Our food came out hot. Turns out that was not true for the table to our left. The table to our right got the wrong food so half their group was done while the others were just starting. Apparently one of the cooks had called in. So, over all, I gave them an optimistic 3 stars. It was like a participation award with the assumption that if they were firing on all cylinders, it could have been much better. Personally, i wouldn't try them again but as the only Irish pub in the area, it could be a neat happy hour hang out. It just was not a family lunch spot.

We visited here mostly because their online menu, and their menu inside, said they serve Kilkenny, one of my husband's favorite beers and one that is rare to find. Service was great, busy as the place was on a Saturday at lunchtime. I had a Magner's cider while my husband made do with Schells Octoberfest. The cheese curds were absolute artwork, some of the best we've had in ages. I had the beet and goat cheese salad. It was huge with very fresh ingredients, quite filling without an added protein. My husband had a burger and fries and really enjoyed them.

We strongly recommend that you go early lest you run the risk of finding your favorite meat or side already sold out! $88.45 purchased a full rack of ribs (membrane on), 1/2 lb. each of brisket (fatty end) and pulled pork, sides of coleslaw and mac 'n cheese, and 3 orders of hush puppies. The brisket is solid, with pronounced bark and a salt/pepper based flavor profile that is classic central Texas. The lightly seasoned ribs, which also call central Texas to mind, separated cleanly at the bite, and may be eaten by themselves or with a dollop of the house mustard sauce. The latter is one of 3 sauces that are straight out of the Carolinas, the others being Lexington and East Carolina. All 3 are excellent, but the mustard sauce rivals the best of South Carolina. We recommend that you use the pulled pork, which is fine on its own, as a platform to sample all 3 sauces. The 3 sides were also top-notch. The coleslaw is a clean, fresh bite that works well to cleanse the palate as you move from one meat to the next. The mac 'n cheese is excellent, and we became addicted to the hush puppies, which we would rate far and away the best in the state. We look forward to the whole hog and house made banana pudding on our next visit. Ever since 2020, the climate surrounding the George Floyd Square has changed dramatically, and this establishment has become an even stronger integral part of the community as the square itself had represented how the community thrives with its people. A lot of respect for the establishment from that perspective. In terms of food, I would say the soul food, which contained mostly sides, were the main highlight for me. The mac & cheese was salty enough. The fries were solid in a "you can't really go wrong with it" type of way. The candied yams had enough sweetness. The collard greens could taste better but standards must be lower when they're not homemade. I also enjoyed the catfish fillets as they were fried to preserve enough hotness and softness. A lot of what they served, they made on the spot, which was what may be causing longer wait for some. Meat-wise, a lot of items could use further improvement because they were too dry, such as the smoked wings and the beef brisket. The wings were dry to the point that they condensed and got extremely salty. The brisket relied a lot on the sauce and the existing fat on the meat for juiciness while the meat itself didn't have a lot of flavor or juice. As for the ribs, they had some seasoning, and tasted just fine, and weren't as dry. But I have had ribs in Texan barbeque places before and knew what "seasoned" ribs were like and therefore concluded that the ribs here were not spectacular. With all that said, however, I still will return here as often as I can because I love supporting this business. The person serving me was very hospitable and patient. I still got some pretty solid barbeque even if it's not Texas. Besides, outside just the barbeque food, the soul food was solid, like I had mentioned above.
