I had the Reuben, which was nothing special: store bought rye bread, deli corned beef in small proportion, loads of sauerkraut and bottled Thousand Island with Swiss cheese. Came with fries, not hand cut but standard frozen and fried. I can make that home and not pay $13. Service was spotty - no check-in or tea refill until the dishes were clean. read more

We drove by here the other day and we chose to try it today. I am so happy that we did! We walked in and it was very spacious. There were 6 seats at the counter area. We opted for a little 2 seater as it was just my husband and myself. Our waitress was very attentive. She came over took our drink order and asked if we needed time to look at the menu. My husband chose to have coffee, an omelette and a side of corned beef hash. I had 2 eggs, potatoes and toast. For everything it was under $25 and that includes our tip! I enjoyed watching "grandma" in the kitchen. She was so fun to watch. She was fast, would yell out instructions, and watching her crack and whisk eggs. The soup was good but the help can't be bothered. The ice tea was terrible. Burger was ok but fries are not gluten free.

I waited 30 mins just to take our order and get drinks. right when we were about to leave the server came to place oder. We waited at least 45 minutes for our order and lots of people already had food that came before us. they stated first come first serve is BS. if you know someone you will get seated first. food was ok had better. the server was grump. not coming back! felt bad for asking for anything she was so grumpy. read more

We were here on vacation from MO and looking for a nice brunch. Decided to stop in. Upon entering we asked for a high chair and we were told, "they are over there". Ok, we can get our own. Our 2 year old was entertaining himself by counting the jelly packets and the same server can over and said, "please don't let him play with those because everyone touches them". The portions were skimpy, service snippy and the floor stained. Just keep walking to one of the other choices down the street. Had coffee from down the street, and were told we would have to pay for WATER since we "brought our own drinks". Left immediately. Dirty from the get-go. Tables still had food from previous diners even though only one table was occupied. Menu was similar to a truck stop. Carpeted floor had what appeared to be large black grease stains that looked like someone repairs car engines. Server was uninterested, detached, unhelpful and snippy. Salad had a tomato 'slice' that had the stem cut out and was paper thin on top of bagged chopped lettuce. Soup was out of a can, tasteless and bland. Sandwich had old bread and was unremarkable. The view of the kitchen from the bathroom was gross and contributed mightily to a feeling of sick. The topper was they don't accept credit cards. The server sarcastically told us there was a sign at the door and on the menu. The sign at the door is opposite from the handle and is easy to miss. Who looks how to pay on a menu? Who doesn't take credit cards? This place is at an ideal location and it's a shame that the owner doesn't know how to have a good menu and hire an excellent crew. If the person reading this review wants a decent place to eat choose anywhere but here. Lots of restaurants on 3rd avenue. An excellent example of how a cafe should be run is the Blue Front Cafe. Go there and have a 5 star experience. One last thing, the person that joined me for lunch said this was an awful place years ago. We both had hopes it had changed. No so. read more

My friend and I stopped in to give 3rd Avenue Cafe a try; I had not been there since the restaurant changed hands and I always liked the food from the prior owners. We were told to pick a table, which we did. We waited a bit to put in our order but not extraordinarily long. As we waited for our food, we watched tables around us change over and new patrons take their seats. One table in particular, came in after we ordered, got their food, and finished eating their food before we got our breakfasts. I asked the waitress, what was taking so long, motioning to the table next to ours that was getting ready to leave. The waitress said, "I'll go see." A minute later, a different person, perhaps the owner, or the cook, came out, and dropped our plates on the table from a height of 6 or so inches, which resulted in a loud clattering noise and snidely said, "This isn't MacDonalds!" after which, she whirled around and left. The food was mediocre (at best), we only ate it because at that point, we were ravenous. I won't be going back, nor will I recommend. Oh, and since then, I've spoken to some locals about my experience and they say that they refuse to go in there since the new owners took over. read more
