Went here during Denver Restaurant Week with some fellow Yelpies since none of us had tried this…read moreplace before, and it seemed like a good opportunity to check it out. First, the service was excellent. Staff were attentive, friendly, and everything came out at a good pace. No complaints there. As for the food, we ended up trying pretty much everything on the restaurant week menu, and unfortunately the overall theme seemed to be a lack of seasoning and flavor. For the first course, the standout for me was the bison bone marrow. It was rich, buttery, and easily the most flavorful dish of the round. The lamb bolognese was the weakest of the starters. The lamb itself was tender and the bolognese flavor was present, but it was still a bit bland. The saffron ricotta also felt unnecessary and gave the dish a slightly odd flavor combination. For the second course, we tried the bison short rib, duck confit, and Faroe Island salmon. The bison short rib was very tender, but again under seasoned. The leek and Yukon pommes that came with it had a gummy, almost paste-like texture that wasn't very appealing. The salmon also lacked seasoning and was unfortunately dry but the crispy skin was honestly the best part of that dish. The duck confit probably had the most flavor overall and was cooked well, but the grits served with it seemed undercooked and also needed salt. For dessert, things improved a bit. The sticky toffee pudding was the best of the three and a solid way to end the meal. The mango and ginger sorbet had a nice idea behind it but the fruit flavor came across pretty weak. The flourless chocolate torte was decent, though personally a bit too rich and chocolate heavy for my taste. Overall, great service and a nice opportunity to try the restaurant during restaurant week.

The restaurant itself was lovely, and our reserved table was ready as soon as we arrived. We had a larger group so were tucked into a high top table near the kitchen, which we loved since we had less noise from other diners but got to see the chefs and servers in action; we were even brought out dessert by the pastry chef. Our server was quick and helpful, but didn't hover. He was excellent at describing various dishes and flavor profiles and helped us decide on the right dishes for both meal flow and quantity (we all shared everything). We started with sopes and some gorgeous duck confit tacos, and then worked our way through the menu getting at least one item from each section. The huarache was also especially delicious, as was the cochinita pibil. We finished with a couple of desserts to share. The entire meal knocked my out of town guests' socks off. Even as someone from Arizona who can be jaded about Mexican food, this meal was a delight.

Overview: We came here after seeing that it was on InKind without knowing too much and we are so glad we did. Our experience started with complimentary handmade tortillas and a buttery jalepeno spread that was the perfect beginning to our meal. Tasty and just enough to wet the appetite. Cocktails were solid - I had the Pie De Lima which was creamy and tasty. A few standout dishes: Crudo - the sauce was amazing and the crudo was fresh. All the flavors worked really well together. Would highly recommend. Sopes de suardero - this was the best dish. It was basically shredded beef cheek in a masa cup and it was to die for. Maybe some of the best beef cheek I've had in CO. Super flavorful and melt in your mouth tender. Huarache - Chorizo, potatoes, on a flat masa with delicious salsas Solid but didn't blow us away: Tamal de cuanaca - Wanted a little more flavor in this one - it tasted a little plain. Cochinita Pibil - Roasted DIY pork tacos. Pork was decent but not as tender as I would have liked. The standout here was the chili sauce that came with it - I wanted to buy that by the gallon! Overall ambiance is nice and staff was friendly and quick. Would I go back: 100% - I'm still thinking about those beef cheeks. And being on InKind is such a plus!

What a great dinner for our anniversary celebration!…read more Not gonna lie anytime I see - farm to table - my initial thought is always - could they be pretentious? Not this place! We had such an amazing time with all the yummies! Their menu changes by the season and availability of the products. We started with the roasted beets - always a summer staple - what an interesting mix of plum sauce and sesame chili crunch oil. A little on the spicy side if you're spicy sensitive but it was the perfect level for us. We loved the sauce so much that we let Tina know that we wish we could sop up the leftover sauce when she was taking our plate away - she immediately sat it back down and said she could totally get us a couple slices of bread for that - drool! We also ordered the cast iron corn bread from the starter menu - it was piping hot and served with some sweet cream butter and house made peach jam. Don't sleep on those - I could have this for dessert too, so tasty! Main entrees - we ordered the pork chop and the salmon. I initially wanted the pork chop but didn't want the BBQ sauce cuz I'm not a sweet on savory girl... I opted for the salmon w all savory ingredients... Gosh, both are so amazing, thanks to the hubby for sharing his pork chop with me, the sauce was good and not too sweet - also it was more on the plate than drizzled all over so the pork really was able to shine through. So tender and juicy too. The curry potato salad paired w it was very refreshing and delicious. The salmon was nicely done, placed over a bed of dill dressed salad and smashed baked baby potatoes.. the potatoes were hot and crispy, the salad well dressed with nice big pieces of cucumbers and croutons. We are usually not dessert folks but we couldn't pass up the double chocolate pot du crème. It was lightly sweet and the cream was creamy but not sweet - really brought out the double chocolate - the sugared walnut was such a nice touch. We received complimentary 2 little celebratory bubbles for our anniversary from the restaurant and it was such a nice touch. I remember Wildflower also did that for our last anniversary dinner - so grateful for those. Tina was our server and she was amazing, made really great recommendations and super thoughtful w the bread for our beet sauce. Thanks Plimouth for making our anniversary special!

We started with three shareable appetizers and the best one by far was the peach and ricotta with herbed oil. It was fresh and vibrant and played with the balance between sweet and savory in such a fun way. This was my husband's favorite bite. The next one was the cornbread and it was ok. The cornbread itself was sweet and a little gooey in the center but crispy on the outside. Not terrible by any means, but with the honey butter it eats almost too sweet. Then the jam it was served with was super tart and it just wasn't to my tastes. The last shareable was the charred broccoli with plums and Polenta. This was my second favorite but the char was intense and made it a little bitter. The polenta was delicious and creamy though and I loved the sauce and plums. Me and my husband shared two entrees and the first was the grilled pork. It had some really good flavors, especially the pork chop. In fact it was the best pork chop I've ever had and the peach and onion slaw went with it so well. Whoever was working the grill really knows what they are doing. This was definitely my favorite bite. What didn't work was how overcrowded the plate was. The potato salad also felt unnecessary and the curry flavor with all the other things on the plate was an odd choice. It was also unevenly salted on the cauliflower and some were bland and others super salty. The other entree we got was the salmon. The sauce was great and so were the crispy potatoes but the salmon was underseasoned and the skin wasnt crispy, so that was a bummer. The salad was really nice but we didnt enjoy the bagel chips as they were hard and in really large pieces. Dessert was good but the plum tart, wasnt actually a tart but more of a galette. I wasn't expecting Puff pastry but the cream and plums were delicious. The apricot sorbet was nice and bright and made a great way to end the meal. Overall the food had some real highs and lows, but the service was very nice. All the wait staff was very attentive and the restaurant is small but inviting. I love that this is a scratch kitchen and the menu changes daily but it can also mean that some dishes aren't as refined. I would definitely come back and try some of the other things cause when the food here hits, it hits good and is worth it to me to keep coming back.

Upon arrival we checked in at the hostess table (we were 15 minutes early). We were told to go next door to Major Tom for a drink. I was a bit confused at first as to why but I know high-end restaurants are very coordinated and I get there is timing to everything. We were then taken back and seated and provided cold lemon towels to wipe our hands. The dining room was very minimalistic and had a hygge element to it. You could tell that they want the focus mostly on the food. We didn't know what to expect food wise because they didn't have their fall menu on their website and that's probably because they change it frequently based on what is in season. I thought we would have a look at the menu before hand at our table but it was really just one surprise after another. All the food runners, hosts, front-of-house leader etc. Were extremely friendly, courteous and knowledgeable. First course: Carrot & Anise Hyssop: Gorgeous presentation. An extremely colorful dish with edible flowers. Almost too pretty to eat. A small bite with a hint of savory and a bit of sweetness with the carrot. The sweetness stuck around after eating it. Second course: Oyster, Watermelon & Basil : What to say about this dish. I didn't not like it but I wouldn't eat it again. It was interesting. I have ate Oysters before but not with a watermelon with it. I actually think the watermelon saved it a bit. The oyster itself was very fishy and the sweetness of the watermelon took your mind off the ocean taste. Third course: Tomato, Osetra & Basil: This was in my opinion a take on a caprese without the cheese. It was full of flavor. The sweetness of the tomatoes was offset by the saltiness of the osetra caviar. If you like tomatoes, this is a unique dish. Fourth course: Trout, Cucumber & Sea Fennel: The trout was really good and tender. It wasn't overly fishy and cooked perfectly. Fifth course: Wagyu Fat Sourdough & Cultured Butter: What an interesting loaf of bread. It was delicious and I have never ate bread cooked in Wagyu fat. The bread didn't taste much like a traditional sourdough but more like a brown wheat bread with a hint of molasses but more on the savory side and less on the sweet side. Sixth course: Egg, Chanterelle & Trout Roe: One of my favorite dishes!!! My first bite of this was an explosion of flavor. I tasted every single flavor profile of this dish. The sweetness of the corn is offset by the saltiness of the roe. The chives added another flavor to the dish and it reminded me of a fully loaded baked potato. There were also hints of bacon flavor. It looks like a soup but it was a custard and the texture of everything in this dish done perfectly! Seventh course: Sea bass , Clam & Fennel: This fish had a crispy top and in a simple yet flavorful sauce. This fish dish was also also amazing. Cooked to perfection! The sauce was delicious but didn't overpower the fish. It was a unique addition to the sea bass. Eighth course: Duck, Summer Squash & Thyme: Another very colorful and unexpectedly delicious dish! I was very hesitant with duck ( See my review on 11th Madison Park and you will know why!) This dish was cooked perfectly! It was very rich in flavor and I also got hints of bacon with this as well. It was tender and the crispy edge topped the flavor off. There were also edible flowers on this dish and the presentation was beautiful. Beckon saved duck for me! Ninth course: Lamb, Kale & Sage: This was my first time having "lamb steak". I was a bit scared that it was going to have a bit of goat flavor profile which I am not a fan of. This was also very tender and reminded me of a gyro flavor profile. I was pleasantly surprised. The sage and thyme enhanced the flavor of the lamb as well. Tenth course: Canary Melon, Ground Cherry & Papalo: (Pallet cleanser) This dish reminded me of a sherbet. I got a very heavy cucumber taste with my first bite of this. Which was a bit off putting but the more I ate it the better it tasted. I don't mind cucumber but not with something sweet. The flavor profile of this dish reminded me of chilled cucumber water. Eleventh Course: Peach, Buckwheat & Goat Milk: First impression of this was dish was that it was put together beautifully. When I heard goat milk, I was instantly scared as I do not like that flavor profile. The "ice cream" part of this dish was what was made with "goat milk". It didn't have that distinct "goat" taste and I was so thankful. This dish also had a white fudge and the flakey top piece tasted like a cinnamon crust reminding me of a peach cobbler. Twelfth course: Golden Sesame & Blueberry: Presented beautifully with a flower filled box. This reminded me of a macaron with a ganache and the blueberry square was a sour blueberry fruit chew. They complimented each other perfectly! Colorful, flavor combos and perfect texture.

What impressed me most was the creativity of the menu. Ingredients that sound incredibly simple on paper--carrot, corn, potato, tomato--were transformed into sophisticated, beautifully composed courses. As the meal progressed, the menu moved into trout, sea bass, duck and lamb before finishing with several creative dessert courses. There were some combinations I never would have imagined ordering, yet they worked remarkably well. The Corn & Jimmy Nardello, Trout with Turnip & Tarragon, Sea Bass with Clam & Fennel, and Duck with Ground Cherry & Summer Squash were particular standouts. Even the Wagyu Fat Sourdough was memorable--which tells you something about the attention given to every part of the meal. The intimate chef's-counter setting is a huge part of the experience. You get to watch the kitchen work and see the precision and thought that goes into each course. The pacing was excellent, the service was knowledgeable without being pretentious, and despite the sophistication of the food, the evening felt relaxed and enjoyable. Beckon isn't inexpensive, and this isn't the place to go if you're simply looking for a great steak and a bottle of wine. You're paying for a culinary experience and putting yourself in the chef's hands for the evening. For us, it delivered. If you enjoy tasting menus and restaurants that challenge you to try ingredients and combinations you wouldn't normally choose, Beckon is absolutely worth experiencing.
