Tried 4 beers and chose the Getchyasum. It's the sweetest beer they have right now. The Sunny Cat was a nice NE-style IPA. The Prickly pear Bridget fruited foeder aged Brett beer is a half-sour - not as tart as other sours. I would usually go for this but I wanted a sweeter beer. My 2nd favorite was "And Look! It has pockets" Belgian style witbier. This is a large brewery with outside seating, strong wifi, and friendly servers. Would definitely return. read more

I feel like 2nd Shift is always overlooked in the St. Louis craft brew scene. I can never figure out why though, it's so good! The beers 2nd Shift offers are always diverse enough that you're always likely to have a few selections that you REALLY want to try. On top of that, their work horse beers, like the Art of Neurosis, are some of the best in the city. Additionally, I feel like 2nd Shift is really killing the social distance patio game. We went for a few beers with friends, and it all seemed very well thought out and safe. All guests must make a free reservation online before arriving. When you get there, a brewery worker checks you in and assigns a table. They are using their large parking lot as the patio now, and you are given a spot that has a picnic table either at the front or back of the parking spot. I thought that was a really ingenious use of their space. My only qualm, and y they got 4 stars, is the slight lack of hand sanitizer around the complex. They had some at the bar to use after signing your tab, but didn't have any near the doors to the bathroom. Would have liked to have had a few more chances to clean my hands when touching high use surfaces. read more

Really enjoyed this place. Great taproom with ample space for large groups. We came with a large group and found seating right away. There is also a nice patio for outdoor seating. Games are offered inside too, which is a nice bonus. If you get hungry while you are there, grab some Guerrilla Street food - delicious! And filling. The beer list is EXTENSIVE. Lots of beers offered to-go as well. I had the Technical Ecstasy Czech Style Pilsner, which was pretty good. The Cat Spit was another fan favorite amongst our group. We are from out of town and Visited for a few beers on a weekday afternoon. Had a dog friendly outdoor garden (us with 2 hounds), and very accessible. Beer selection was strong. And staff seemed to know their stuff. They offer several different size pours. We had several different IPAs, nothing weak in the bunch. Also, a lager and a very good Black IPA, with strong hop flavor that toasty notes. I'm glad this is in my kid's neighborhood! read more

This tasting room is fantastic! They have about 10 beers on tap, several canned and bottled selections, and a few wines. The tasting room is large with 4 tops, 6 tops, and several communal tables. There's even a comfy couch at the front of the space if you want to settle in without a table. There are a couple of shelves of board games for borrowing. Food is provided by Guerilla Street Food at a separate window (separate tab needed). I'm a fan of their more sour beers. Katy is my favorite, but there is always another funky beer on tap, too. How have I not reviewed 2nd Shift Brewing yet, seriously its one of my favorite breweries in St.Louis, so I figured it's finally time for a review. 2nd Shift is a great brewery serving up a variety of beers. Much like every brewery, they do have their flagship beers, so quit your bitching about the same old beers. 2nd Shift isn't afraid to experiment either, often releasing varients or blends along with new creations. 2nd Shift also has some of the best friends in the brewery industry, which allows them to create some killer collaborations. Some that come to mind are recent collabs with Mikkeller Baghaven, Off Color, Mikerphone, and many more. The staff here is killer, many of the awesome bartenders have been serving since I first started visiting, so that speaks volumes. The taproom has a large bar along with a large open area complete with board games and food from Guerilla Street Food. If you're lucky, you might make friends with one of the cute brewery cats. Be advised; parking can be a pain during peak hours so be prepared to park on the street. 2nd Shift also puts on some of my favorite beer festivals in St.louis, Criderfest brings many breweries to St.Louis to showcase their beers and introduce beer lovers to some new brews. Cask Festival is another great festival that brings together more friends of 2nd Shift to share limited small batch cask beers that are only available during this unique evening event. Overall 2nd Shift is a great brewery worth checking out. read more

We stopped at this place on our way out of STL and we ended up staying waaaaay longer that we were supposed to because we just loved it. They have a range of beers, my husband's favorite this trip was Chateau...I'll let you look up the tap list for the rest of the name but he finds it hilarious. They also have a really great stout and do several variants. They recently acquired a cat and he was being a bit of a bully to our dog which is funny because we have a big Boxer. Oh 2nd Shift, today is the day to show you some love. By far one of my favorite Saint Louis breweries. If you happen to stop by when Technical Ecstasy is in season, you will not want to pass it up. It is one of the best pilsners money can buy. If the weather is colder, my go-to is Liquid Spiritual Delight (LSD). Holy smokes, such an amazing stout. Their beer is fire and it's always consistent. I tried the Cat and Mouse last month, also amazing. It was a collab with Off Color. Amazing purple colored wild ale. Try it if there's any left. Their space is great! They are hosts to Guerrilla Street Food, which you can never go wrong with. I always get the Flying Pig. It's soooo filling, almost too much, actually. They also have a hearty selection of games you can play if you visit with some friends. Clutch brewery, central location, amazing beer. What are you waiting for? read more

I have a house way out in the country on a farm and I used to pass the sign for 2nd Shift Brewing all the time at the turn off to New Haven. I never made it in but now that they have moved to The Hill I was able to stop by after work one day. Nice, large, open space. Very clean. Bar all the way to the back. You have to go to the bar for drinks. They don't come out to your table. I drank a Goldie Hawn Blonde. I really liked it. Love that there's Guerrilla Street Food inside the building... This was my first time to the 2nd shift at their new St. Louis location. It was a great first experience! The tasting room is very large and open with plenty of table and bar seating. It has a very warm and inviting presence. Staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. The drink menu offers a selection of 2nd Shift beers, some guest taps and a wine list. If you like beer or wine, you shouldn't have a problem finding something here. Some beers are also available to go in bottles or growlers, depending on the beer. The only thing I had a bit of a problem with since it was my first time visiting was getting into the parking lot. It is off of Sublette and appears to be a warehouse with a fence around it, but look out for the large signs and to tell you where to go. Give them a try! read more

We have been at the new location of 2nd Shift twice in recent days, since they moved into St Louis. The taproom is roomy and they have food provided by Guerilla Foods. Bro J and Ms T both love some of 2nd Shift's IPA's, especially Brew Cocky and Arty of Neurosis. I usually find something I will drink too, not being the hop head that they are. Our latest visit was really a quest for some Brew Cocky (cans) but we timed it for lunch and learned that we could get only the beer at the Schnucks on Arsenal at the moment until they completed their next semi-monthly batch. The menu is apparently Filipino influenced. I was a little scared of the fact that there was garlic emphasis in almost everything. Not that I don't like it, I just hate to have it oozing out of my pores for days. For lunch Ms T had the Chicken Adobo and I had the Wandering Pig, both on jasmine rice. The chicken was not exactly like was described on the menu board. When I hear "adobo" I think of a richer sauce. This was nearly clear and appeared to be starch thickened. There was just the faintest hint of the vinegar and no evidence of the bay leaf, black pepper corns or soy sauce that were in the description. Ms T found it bland and I agreed, but it was OK. The shredded chicken was moist and tender. Oh yeah and Ms T rescued a large whole clove of garlic from her chicken. I definitely liked the Wandering Pig better. The pork was well prepared, like the chicken, but the entire dish was better seasoned. Next time I will order without the green onions (which I was able to remove) or the fried garlic, which has been with me all afternoon. The hoisin and sriracha were perfect on the pork. This reminded me of carnitas, but the meat is braised tender and does not have the browned flavors that you normally get with carnitas. I assume the rice was jasmine as advertised although it lacked the fragrances that you normally get with jasmine rice. We will definitely return for lunch and a beer. There are a couple of other dishes on the menu that look good and now that we can see how they are assembled we can reduce out allium intake. We are delighted that 2nd Shift moved into St Louis. They are clearly the best local craft brewer and this is a nice place to go. Feb 2018 - We returned with the D's for lunch and a beer. This time we remembered to skip the fried garlic and green onion. I enjoyed the Bicol Express pork in rich coconut milk gravy with some chopped chiles serranos on top. Very good. Ms T had the Flying Pig with the sous vide egg on top. Just be aware this egg is nearly raw, including the white. If you don't want that, just get the Wandering Pig which is the same thing without the egg. read more

We have been here twice for other events - not even in search of beer or food. They held a couple maker's market type events here this year and we have gone twice and the first time we commented on how cool the space was and we loved that there were all sorts of seating options - couches, smaller/shorter longer tables for people - pub height tables, etc. GUERRILLA STREET FOOD IS INSIDE ** Yes, you heard that right. You can order GSF from their window adjacent to the bar and then return to your seat and be served ice cold beer in various fancy glasses. Their Raspberry whit is delicious - I am not normally a huge beer drinker but I have really enjoyed everything I have tried from here. They have a lot of diverse options - but everything is crisp and cold and the flavors are not muddy like some smaller breweries, I've noticed, I struggle to determine anything "outstanding" about some other brewery's beers - these are really distinct and uniquely flavorful. Also, try the Annabelle saison. I love that we could go inside, get munchies from GSF window and then have beers and we could play board games and hang out. The atmosphere really lends to hanging out and spending time in a communal space and not sitting at a bar staring at each other - you can actually DO things here. Come prepared, however, the parking situation is really difficult here; we have gotten extremely lucky with parking on the very backside of the building which is right by the door - but both times we saw people circling the block near the train tracks trying to find places in the dark to park...(haha - I rhymed...). Ultimately, if you want a good beer-drinking social space that isn't so loud you can't hear your friends and you can actually hang out and play games and if you get hungry there is food, etc... This is a really excellent choice - plus all of the various "events" they have on the other side of the beer barrels with vendors and such have always been really neat and very very very local in order to support your small businesses. read more

Really good beer and great people! My partner and I had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. We aren't even beer people. So when we walked up to the bar, we were overwhelmed with choices. The bartender was an incredible help! They allowed us to try all kinds of beers before making our final decision(s). And, the beer was only $6! Great deal for good stuff. And they had a bomb music playlist going. The seating was wonderful. Outside, they had heaters which were great for a rainy and at some points windy day. Wipes were available everywhere too. Born and raised in saint louis, and an avid beer enthusiast, but for some reason I never went to 2nd shift until after I had moved away. It has now become a must-visit every time I return home. Perhaps because I typically visit in the early afternoons, on weekdays, I have never had issues with service speed. In fact, I have always found the bartenders, particularly Laura, to be charming and helpful! Also I love having cats around while I'm relaxing with my beer. The woman behind the counter there is awesome and the food looks and smells incredible! This seems to be a very family friendly place. Tons of kids running around enjoying themselves -- definitely a neighborhood place. During a family vacation to St. Louis, we visited a number of breweries and this was my favorite. Craft breweries have come a long way and many have take the taproom experience to new levels with great locations and refined interiors. This isn't that kind of brewery. 2nd Shift is much like the original craft breweries that began in simple industrial warehouses. So you won't be impressed with the space but you will be comfortable and welcomed. But you're there for the beer and their beer is amazing. I had styles all the way from farmhouse ales to IPAs to stouts and they nail every one. Definitely visit this brewery if you ever get near St. Louis! read more

We stopped in here for a couple of beers on a Friday afternoon. This is a big facility, especially a big tasting room. The area is very industrial, but just down the hill from the Hill. so pretty convenient after dinner there. We had a flight of beers and none of them knocked our socks off. The industrial vibe had a kind of "been there" vibe to it. Also the server wasn't very friendly, which was kind of surprising on a slow day. There are so many great breweries in St. Louis so it's pretty hard to compete in the craft brew business. This was my first trip to 2nd Shift and it was during a Yoga Buzz special event after hours. The location is really hard to find in the dark. There is no sign driving South and it's located around the back of a building. The set up seems cool with lots of seating and tons of games available. I will definitely have to come back and take advantage. I chose the Cat Spit Stout after my yoga class and it came from a different tap area and wasn't very cold which made it taste very thick. My friends who chose other brews had cold beers so i would definitely think this is the anomaly. I will go back and give them another try during normal business hours and update my review when i do. read more

I was visiting family in St. Louis and heard about this brewery from some people in Colorado. So I knew I had to go check it out on a visit here. We stopped in to pre game for a wedding a few miles away. I loved both beers that I had, one was an IPA, the other was the Barrel Aged Dream Bar. If you're in St. Louis do yourself a favor and check this place out. Little side note, my brother who normally only drinks Bud Light ( don't judge him) had two beers too. He did enjoy both his. He even bought some cans to take home to share with his wife, that's how good this place is. read more

First off not sure how to write this review. Like the beer is a solid 4 out of 5. But severe service issues have left me thinking they don't deserve to get anything more then 1 star. Bartenders were pompous, rude and barley paid any attention to anyone that was not a local. They have an in house restaurant that basically is a pig stye, they simply throw slop on a dirty metal trey and call it food. The folks working the food Place were so High they could barley function. Aside from Four Hands, this is arguably the best craft brewery in St. Louis, which is saying something since the Loo is strong in the beer department. 2nd Shift is tucked away near railroad tracks in a warehouse district in between Dogtown and Tower Grove, and it sports excellent brews across the board (ten year-round standbys with several rotating seasonals). Tip of the hat to the stalwart "Art of Neurosis" IPA and the Hibiscus Wit. 2nd Shift's massive tasting room can accommodate large crowds at long tables, and there are loads of board games for hours of amusement. Unlike some breweries, it has an attached kitchen with bites (currently Filipino-inspired guerilla street food) in case you get hungry. Outside, there is also a fire pit to stay warm. All in all, I can understand why 2nd Shift's tag line is "Where drinking our beer is your second job!" read more

Number Two in The Lou! Brewing beer is a dream job for a serious beerknurd. When Steve Crider received his first home brew kit, he had no idea that his name would become one of most recognized in the Saint Louis craft beer scene. 2nd Shift Brewing was making a name for itself right out of the gate. Their first beers were making appearances as guest taps all over Saint Louis, but when Crider opened the location on Sublette Ave on The Hill, 2nd Shift quickly got the ball rolling. I am a fan of most, if not all local breweries, but I was a fan of 2nd Shift from my first sip, which was an IPA. However, they really made a name for themselves with Katy: an American Brett Saison. Their most celebrated beers tend to be on the lighter side, but they can get pretty dark or dank! Liquid Spiritual Delight stout and its variation are very sought-after. Other popular pours are Little Big Hop New England IPA, Art of Neurosis American IPA, and Technical Ecstacy Pilsner. I also love the location of the brewery, just on the fringe of The Hill. However, if you're not careful, you will drive right past that baby! They could probably label it better, but you just need to look for the banner hanging on the fence. If you're a craft beer guy who's making your rounds, 2nd Shift is placed perfectly. Near UCBC in The Grove and down the street from Modern on Manchester. This brewery has quickly entered my top five. So get over to 2nd Shift and have yourself a good time. read more

Stopped into 2nd Shift Brewing on Friday evening. Tried three beers from the list, Cat Spit Oatmeal Milk Stout, Liquid Spiritual Delight Imperial Stout, and Little Big Hop NE-Style Session IPA. Quality I typically like to sample some beers or get a flight before committing to a full draft of any beer. Unfortunately the ridiculous wait at 2nd Shift Brewing did not afford me that opportunity. I instead went with my gut in terms of my draft selections, and felt that overall they were decent. My first choice was the Cat Spit Oatmeal Milk Stout. It was definitely the best of the three beers I tried. It was much darker than I expected out of a milk stout. A little chocolate and a little coffee, it was a solid beer. Next I went bolder with the Liquid Spiritual Delight Imperial Stout. I feel like imperial stouts have the most potential, but at the same time can easily end up being too syrupy. This one is extremely thick and served at a slightly warmer temperature. I found myself struggling to enjoy it, which I think was in part because of the warm temperature inside, but my real issue was the after-taste which reminded me of medicine. To break up the stouts, my last beer choice was Little Big Hop NE-Style Session IPA. I immediately got excited when I saw the hazy golden pour. However, it just smacked me with too much citrus taking away some enjoyment. Quantity Drafts came in 10, 12, or 14oz pours depending on the selection. Fair pours once you can get someone's attention to get you one. Value Drafts ranged from $5 to $7 depending on the selection. I did not see an option for Flights, but I did not even inquire figuring the last thing they needed was for things to slow down even more. Ambiance 2nd Shift Brewing is located in an industrial area of St. Louis. The brewery takes residence in a massive warehouse very close to a railroad track. The brewery and taproom share the same huge room with giant racks of barrels as separation between the two sections. They do not have any outdoor space, but the inside taproom is quite large. At the back wall of the taproom you will find the bar and lots of tables fill in the rest of the space. They do have a few couches near the front, but really only enough to accommodate one group. The bar has two televisions, both showing sports, as well as a screen displaying the beers on tap. They have different games stacked up and offered free wi-fi. For food they had a kitchen with a small list of choices for those needing a snack as they drink. They also had two or three cats wandering around, which I was not a fan of. I am definitely a little biased because of allergies, but I did not like the fact that these cats were just jumping on top of tables and bar. I felt it was unsanitary, though most of the other guests did not feel the same. The taproom was also very warm, which was not what I was hoping for on a hot day. Because of the lack of separation the equipment keeps the whole space toasty. Crowd There was a good crowd on Friday evening. It was primarily large groups, many of whom looked like they had just come from work. The massive taproom makes it a good place for bigger parties to hang out. They are also family friendly and I saw a few children running around. Service It was a mess. At first I assumed they were understaffed, but after I sat down I realized they had plenty of people, just very few of them were actually helping guests. Two had sat down to chat with friends in one corner and another was chasing down a cat. When there are constant lines at the bar, someone should have had the awareness to call more people over. Parking The brewery has a decent sized parking lot. However, I would be concerned on a busy day because if it filled up it did not look like there was much else in the area. Extra My issues with 2nd Shift Brewing were not really related to the beer. Rather my experience was overshadowed by the terrible service, avoiding the brewery cats, and dealing with the heat. The beers I did try were decent, and showed a lot of potential. But it is hard to be excited to return when you are uncomfortable with the space they are served in. read more
