I engaged 2nd Avenue Design by email in February. I specifically asked if they did engineering. Michael at 2nd Ave responded by email saying, "yes this is something we do a lot." I subsequently met with Michael. He came to my home and we discussed the project. He said he would write a bid for the job. This is where we started to have problems with communication and follow up. I had to ask for the bid after it was due. Miraculously he sent it after I asked. I decided to use 2nd Ave and gave a deposit to start the process with the agreement that work would begin by June 1st. Between my first contact with Michael at 2nd Ave and now (July 15th) I've had to hound him for updates and communication. He said he was having a difficult time finding an engineer. He brought one by finally (an engineer who he never worked with) and the engineer kept asking me what I wanted and he had no solutions except to put large obtrusive posts and beams in after jackhammering my foundation. Clearly this is not what I discussed with Michael and it was clearly a lazy solution for the engineer. No work has ever been started and my last text to Michael on July 5th was ignored until July 14th when I texted again and asked for my deposit back. I'm sure 2nd Ave is good at ripping out your old kitchen and putting a new one in when it's just new cabinets and appliances. But they definitely are not your company if you need any thought put into your project. I would not recommend 2nd Avenue Design for any project other than anything very simple. read more

My wife and I are so happy with our recent kitchen remodel with 2nd avenue design! A friend of ours recommended 2nd avenue to us after they remodeled their kitchen (custom cabinets, quartz countertops). We weren't sure what we could afford since we had a modest budget, but Mike came out and discussed the possibilities of our kitchen design. He followed up with drawings and several budget options. I never thought I'd be so excited by drawings, but they helped us to help visualize what the kitchen could be before the work even started. We worked with him on the design, and soon after his crew got started. They communicated well on what to expect, stayed on schedule, and the work is beautiful! His crew has such a high attention to detail and beautiful craftsmanship. I felt like he treated the job like his own kitchen. Our experience started out well but changed for the worst when the product was delivered. Their were a number of cosmetic defects in the cabinets. Such as inconsistent stain, nicks, scratches, etc.. We contacted the owner, Michael, to inform him of the problems and we agreed on a time for him to come inspect the areas of concern. On that day Michael wrote us at the last minute and said he wasn't coming out and that he was sending his employees instead, to do the repairs. We weren't excited about the last minute communication and change but went with it. His employees arrived and we showed them our concerns. Long story short they said they would need to take all of the cabinet doors and drawer faces back to their shop. We accepted this plan as they promoted it was the best way to resolve the issues. We requested that the work be done by a certain date and the employee stated he would make it happen. Time came for reinstalling the re-stained and corrected pieces. Unfortunately shortly after that, the lacquer finish on almost all of the pieces started to peal. Here is when communication, timeliness and courtesy went out the window. Unfortunately we had already maid final payment so we didn't have much leverage to deal with their newly acquired poor business practices. We contacted Michael again and he agreed to come out and look at the problem. At that meeting he acted as if we caused the problem because we asked for the original imperfections to be repaired. He stated that the pieces never should have been taken back to their shop. We tried to remind him that he didn't show up to that original meeting and that his employees made the decision to remove the pieces, not us. He completely dismissed that idea and has to this day. But, he agreed to remake the pieces that were peeling. In our opinion the job should have been made a priority because our project was now many weeks behind. None of which was our fault. Nope, we were put on the low priority and 6 months after the original installation we are still living with the peeling doors. Michael and his company have been poor, at best, to deal with and we are now having to file a formal complaint against 2nd Avenue Design Group with the Registrar of Contractors. I will complete this review once more has transpired. I highly don't recommend doing business with this company. They provided an inferior product, have been rude and unprofessional to deal with. read more

Mike Roberts and his team worked with us to remodel our kitchen, laundry room and family room. All of them were great to work with and they really listened our ideas, questions and suggestions. Every issue identified was quickly solved and everything was completed in a timely manner. Mike and his crew remodeled our kitchen last winter(2016) which included removing part of a wall and all new floor, cabinets, and counter tops. We couldn't be happier with the way it turned out. We get compliments from everyone that visits. They do great work! My only complaint is that it sometimes took Mike awhile to get back to us and follow up on status of the project. I understand the life of a busy contractor though so I'm not going to hold that against them. read more

I was not happy with the remodel of our kitchen. We were told that things were going to get done and they were not. The amount of time quoted was way longer than what it actually took even though I had told them they had out business but to please if anything over estimate rather than under. We have a large scratch in our island counter top and all our drawer were meant to be soft close and completed and only half are soft close and they several don't shut all the way. I do want to say whoever they used for the tiling did a phenomenal job. It was subcontracted out and I would hire them again in a minute but I will never use 2nd ave design group again nor will I recommend it. read more

We are so happy with the work that Mike and his team did in our kitchen. They matched the wood stain and built extra cabinets and also designed a few from scratch matching beautifully. Simply put, Mike Roberts and his team did a phenomenal job on our kitchen. We are completely thrilled with our results, and are very indebted to Mike and his team. Every aspect of the process was agreeable for us, from the original quote, to length of construction, to payment plan. Mike communicated very well and let my wife and I know what would be happening when. As this was my first major renovation, the certain power of horror stories from friends who have undergone similar renovations really biased my view against having such a major project done in my home. Mike reassured me, and followed through. He was communicative, had solid follow up, addressed my questions as I went along, and generally had subcontractors there when they needed to be there. He was also sensitive to the needs of a historic home, and the finished product, although modern, really does work well with the historic façade. We were very pleased with the work 2nd Ave did on our kitchen and dining room cabinetry. We brought them in to "fix" what another cabinet company failed to finish. They were terrific. Pricing was good. His crew was terrific and they always left the site spotless when they left. We were so happy, in fact, we hired them to remodel our daughter's kitchen in her condo in Los Angeles. My wife and I hired Mike to remodel our kitchen. HUGE mistake. He quoted us 6 weeks to complete the work and told us anything we wanted to hear during the design phase to get us to sign with him and give him the large down payment. Fast forward to 16 weeks later and the job still wasn't complete. Not only that, but some of the work that was done was done incorrectly and not matching or not working correctly. They refused to fix the work and complete other areas of the work and so I was left with an incomplete job that took almost 3 times as long as it should have. read more
