Great meal on Father's Day at the 279 Social, after a taxing morning of shopping in the historic Smithville shoppes. We had no wait for a table around noon, although they were briskly busy on this holiday. Our server was relaxed and not bothered by the commotion, took his time and helped us through our choices. No brunch cocktails for us, we dug right in to meals. I chose the peach burrata caprese salad plate with a side of blackened chicken breast. Although the menu said the peaches would be grilled, they were cold. Perfectly ripe and firm, a great sweet contrast to the balsamic vinegar drizzle. Creamy burrata, basil, and sliced grape tomatoes rounded out the plate. This was a superb salad. The grilled chicken was a $6 add and came on a separate plate. Generous sized, the breast was well seasoned and tender. We took some home with spouse's plentiful potatoes from the skillet. Spouse went with the meat lovers skillet with scrambled eggs and wheat toast. The skillet had ham bacon sausage and cheddar cheese with a huge pile of potatoes and two scrambled eggs. It also included wheat toast. This was a lot of food! This is a bright, well lit, smartly decorated restaurant, where I would love to have spent time at happy hour. Cute place great ambiance we were in the area and decided to give it a try. I had the chicken and waffles and my husband had the hot honey chicken sandwich with fries. The waffle was delicious with a hint of vanilla and the chicken was crispy and juicy. We enjoyed the food and the service was good. My wife and I were here for the Mob Murder Mystery dinner for our anniversary and enjoyed it very much. So we decided to check out the Social again. We sat at the bar this time and had great bartender Samantha. We tried the Pub-Chuterie that was okay, but the soft pretzel is awesome. Heard all the hype so I got my first Smash Burger that was again okay. I should have asked for some fixings like mustard or mayo. Loved the fell and look of the restaurant. Our server was excellent, friendly and attentive. My husband had the Rueben and there could have been more meat. The food was not at our table for 2 hours of waiting and when it came it was mediocre at best and the manager couldn't care less about the service or the food. Just had breakfast there this AM. I had eggs Benedict. Eggs were overcooked (yokes were hard) and there was barely any Hollandaise Sauce. Also had some sort of sweetness that I wouldn't expect. Disappointing! My wife had Berry Crepes. Crepes were overcooked. Crispy/burnt around the edges. Bloody Mary was acceptable. They also had a guitar player/ vocalist. Literally so delicious. One of the most flavorful meals we have had in our 9 months of dating. I don't even like fries and I was absolutely loving the sweet potato fries. The pretzel charcuterie board was to die for and order extra vodka sauce was an amazing decision. The cook nails these menu items 20/10. Ashley is the sweetest manager and makes sure everyone has the best experience from the moment they walk in till they get in their car. We ordered takeout breakfast. Two French toasts. A cinnamon roll one, and some kind of apple one. Cinnamon one was fine, however for the apple one it was literally just regular French toast, no butter, no syrup, next to no type of garnish like the other one with powder sugar and it was burnt which completely overtook any attempt of flavor. My husband and I dined last night at 279 Social and it was delicious. We had honey bbq wings for an appetizer and for my entree I had the salmon over lemon risotto with mango salsa and my husband the Caesar salad with grilled shrimp. I was especially happy with the Lohr Sauvignon Blanc. It is on tap which I rarely see and it was a healthy pour. The bar and dining area are attractive and our waitress was friendly and attentive.
