Buyer beware!! I needed my front door knob and lock replaced due to a hardware break. My initial interaction with David was positive and I was happy he responded quickly. I assumed I would get new hardware that functioned the same as what I had (I did not!), and my discussion with David was about the hardware finishing and getting a key that matched my other lock. Unfortunately, David never communicated to me that the new lock would not work the same, and I'm certain I would not have deemed that acceptable. I lacked some technical knowledge and mistakenly assumed the "pro" would communicate more clearly. I realized after the repair that the hardware he installed was inferior and less functional than what I initially had in place. He charged me a lot of $$$ which I paid due to the last-minute nature of the repair. Sadly for me, I was duped. Buyer beware!! read more

Don't hire David or Daniel Okonina, Rup or Abramowitz He uses all of these in different combinations. You need to be warned. 1) He's not a licensed locksmith 2) He overcharged me roughly 5x standard charges when I checked with two other locksmiths for labor and Amazon for parts. See below. 3) This is an updated review. He literally took my tablet out of my hand the first time and typed himself a positive review, threatening to charge $200 more if I didn't give him the review he wanted. 4) Does he now have a key to my house? I changed the passcode after he left, so if he doesn't that's good. At least I know who to come after if I have a break-in 5) I tried to work it out with him via text. He was unprofessional and insulting in his responses, posted below. 6) I learned when I called Yelp that he has 58 negative reviews pending approval. What takes them so long? I wish I had been warned. 7) New edit - after he saw this review, he had a friend call and harass me, claiming I had kicked his dog. Of course I would have never done any such thing. 8) He created a new Yelp review page when he got too many negative reviews on his old one, 247. David was wonderful. Very nice, polite, professional, and helpful. He explained the costs and reasons behind having a single or double sided lock for my patio security door. While he was here, he noticed that the lock on my front door needed attention. It did. I knew that. But it wasn't as important as my security door for which the locking mechanism would not work. UPDATE: I paid David, in advance via Zelle, for his work, including an additional $150 increase which I will explain later. This morning, I received a past due invoice from him for $739!!!! See below. I also requested, MORE THAN ONCE, a detailed, cost itemized receipt from him for which he has still NOT sent. David promised me a discount if I gave him a five star review prior to him starting work on changing out the lock on my security door to by balcony. I was in a hurry as my HOA decided to do major work on our balconies, patios, and building. We were given 5 days notice. I also am going into the hospital the same day work is to commence and will need several weeks to recouperate. Being put in a bind and seeing these 5 star reviews, I used David. He gave me a price which was a little high, but I accepted it. Before he went to Home Depot to get the lock for this "simple job" (his words), he asked for cash. I only had $40. He was put off and told me to "keep it". He told me then to pay him the full amount via Zelle. I did. As his toolkit remained, I knew he would be back. When he returned, he purchased the wrong size lock and it was too big. He had to drill the hole larger on my security door. And drill. And drill. I held the door steady for him as he drilled. I handed him his screwdriver and then his drill as he asked. It was a very hot day. I got him damp paper towels for his sweat and offered him cold drinks which he refused. However, he was frustrated and used many "F" words. Once he got the lock in, the locking mechanism was now too high for the frame. The price of the job got higher. Another $150 for less than five minutes of drilling. All in all, I paid $739! I could have purchased a new security door and had it installed for that. He even agreed! Yet, he didn't think he should pay me labor for being his assistant! He quickly left as he had another job to go to. I texted him for a detailed cost itemized receipt. I received a generic receipt for the total amount and a list of the tasks. I wanted a detailed cost itemization as he promised me a discount for a 5 star review. He also told me he didn't charge for the lock being keyed to my original key, etc. So, I wanted to see these itemized charges for which I have a right to see! As I complained about how the price of this "simple job" kept incrreasing, he told me that he "didn't put a gun to my head". Yet, he did. He knew I was in a hurry and he knew I was in a fix. I suppose I should have had a half job, no lock in the security door to my balcony, and still paid a pretty penny. Yet, he complained to me about seeing a dentist later that afternoon and how every time he goes there, the dentist finds something else wrong and needs to do more work. I find him no different. Just because he bought the wrong size lock is not my fault. Yet, according to David, it was my fault that I had an old door and that the lock wouldn't fit. It was also my fault that the door wouldn't stay steady while he drilled the hole for the lock even though I held it for him the entire time! He then told me he would reimburse me $50 via Zelle and that this was for the five star review. I did receive the $50 quickly via Zelle. This morning, I received a past due invoice for $739! I went to look at the receipt he texted me and it, too, was not a receipt but an invoice for $739! David has still not sent me a cost itemized receipt! For the $50, the 5 stars at the top of the review will remain as I do honor my word. However, I did not promise I wouldn't share my experience. It makes me wonder if all the five star reviews here were because David promised them a discount. You can make your mind up if you wish to use David. I have to contend with a past due invoice for a bill I paid! read more
