We stopped here for lunch on our way back from Las Vegas towards San Francisco. After chosing to head in this direction for lunch, one of us looked up some interesting facts about this town and the 20 Mule Team. Gaining some knowledge made it more exciting to come here. We were hungry, no doubt about that. After leaving the highway we drove through what seems to be the main Street and found the restaurant. The aeronautical and space museum on the opposite side of the street sure wasn't anything I expected to see. Right when we got into the restaurant, we felt it was the right choice. People greeted us friendly and there was an area where our toddler could walk around and stretch her little legs after being in the car for so long. The menu contains more than I would expect and wish for in a place like this. We all enjoyed the food and the ambiance. If I'll ever drive past there again I hope to stop there and enjoy the place. read more

Great place to stop if your passing through Boron, CA. Wide variety in the menu. I had the Colossal Burger (Pastrami Burger). The buger was a decently good burger, the Pastrami wasn't the best I'd ever had, but not the worst. Didn't have a lot of flavor, but many Pastrami Burgers don't. The fries were excellent. Lightly crispy on the outside, tender on yhe inside and hot and salted! My husband had the Pastrami Sandwich. Again the Pastrami was neither the best or the worst we'd ever had. It was chewable, which there have been many a Pastrami Sandwich that wasn't. Service was super nice and friendly and the Iced Tea was cold and plentiful on a hot August day. Don't let the negatives on the Pastrami dissuade you.. there are litterly dozens of items on the menu.. we'll definitely stop next time through and try other items. read more

Update: changed my review from 4 to 3 stars. I went to pay and was charged a $1 to use my credit card because my meal was less than &10.00!! It was not posted anywhere on the menu or door. Only at cash register as you exit. Original review: I had a great Spanish Omelet with avocado for $8.25! Some reviews called this a diner, I would say NO, it's not like an American diner. This is what we used to call our favorite greasy spoon, or Mexican dive. It's decorated in with Mexican patterns, plastic table class over serape tablecloths, and colorful flags on the ceiling. A great place to eat if you're looking for that small town feel. read more

Ok it's only a 5-iron or two south of the 58 highway so do yourself a favor and take time for some friendly, smiling service, 90's food pricing (seriously folks 7.99 for two eggs, two sausage links, 2 strips of way better than average bacon and two huge awesome pancakes or 4 French toast slices.) Been here twice & the food is good, the staff friendly and efficient. Without fail I order American food and my lady orders Mexican food. We agree that both are fine. I really like the festive decor and the welcoming atmosphere as if I walked into the home of a loving relative. I will definitely return whenever I'm in the area. Love this place! I love checking out little off the wall places. Nothing too special about the menu, the plastic over the table cloths are a nice desert touch :-) Menu is more of a Denny's with a twist of Mexico. Big flat screen tvs are cool for watching sports. read more

Came here on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. There was only one server, which was fine when we first got there since there were only three other tables of people there. We sat and ordered our food; I'd say it took maybe 20 minutes or so for half the table to get their food and about a little over 25 for the rest of the table to get their food. 20 minutes after we had gotten there, a lunch crowd arrived and the single server was running around taking orders. My two friends didn't end up getting exactly what they ordered. One of them got beans, when she wanted a salad instead. She did get the salad, but had cheese on it, even though she asked for her salad without cheese. My other friend who also asked for her salad without cheese, came with cheese. I ordered carne asada tacos with rice and beans. The carne asada was okay, a little on the salty side. I thought the topping were a bit strange, the taste reminded me of taco bell's soft tacos, which I'm not a fan of. The rice and beans were really good though! The portions were large. The pricing was excellent. For four entrees it was about $38. The decor and randomness of all the art/displays felt incredibly authentic. My friends and I thought it reminded us of homes from our childhoods with our grandparents. The town around this place was interesting. They had two small museums across the street: aviation and mule, I believe? Everything was cute and felt very small town. read more

What a great place to eat! We enjoy most things on the menu. Their American and Mexican food is just like at home. The Pico and chips is my favorite to start my meal with. Mother and I were on our way back to Santa Clarita, and a road sign for a random California museum caught my eye. I decided to take the exit and check out one last thing before putting the last endstamp on the roadtrip. We pulled off to see the Boron 20 Mule Team Museum. We then walked across the street to see the giant dump truck across the street from the parked jets. It's a mighty odd corner right here. Jets on one side, Giant yellow dump trucks on the other, and this restaurant in between. We entered, and after chuckling at some of their hanging signage, I took a looksee at the specials board. The Torta with fries and a drink sounded pretty darn good at the moment. As we sat down at a table and looked around the place. I first noticed that it was fairly empty. We then began looking at the menus that had been placed by the place settings. After looking at the menus for a little while, I decided upon the sandwich special, and my mother settled upon the quesedillas. A waitress came over, and after being given several options of sandwich, I ordered a chicken torta. After a little while passed, a carne asada torta was placed before me. A bit confused, I accepted it regardless. I was pretty hungry after driving all morning. While the Torta was actually pretty great, the fries were just passable. Certainly nothing special. Mother agreed with me on that point. She said that despite the poor show on the fries, her quesedilla was actually pretty great. Additionally, after our food arrived, the waitress suddenly stopped visiting. We never got our beverages refilled, we were never asked how we were doing, nor did we eventually get a bill. After enough time had passed, we decided it was finally time to leave. We picked up our dishes containing our leftovers, and walked over to the register to pay our bill and get takeout containers. So, while the main items we ordered were really pretty great, the sides, as well as the service were questionable at best. I think I'll skip that particular exit on my next roadtrip. read more

Chose this place on the way back home from a day trip to the nearby rock hounding spots. Very friendly service from this great little stop. Chips and (mild) salsa to start is always a win for me, and they even had glass bottle Mexican Coke (another win). Ordered the hard tacos with ground beef, the beef was almost seasoned enough but I was starving anyway... Everyone's plates came full of food, and we needed it. Stopped by for dinner. We stayed at the RV park down the street. Pleasantly surprised by the quality and taste of the foods. My dinner companion got the fried chicken and I git the quesadilla with chicken. Quesadilla is my stand by when I'm not sure how the food is going to be. We were both shocked at how delicious it was. The salsas were knock your socks off. I highly recommend if you are in Boron. Not a lot of choices but make this one on the top odds your list. We liked it so much we speed on for breakfast. We came to Boron for the museum across the street. The 20 Mule cafe was open and looked promising. The building has character (AKA old and re purposed). It was clean and open. We were greeted promptly. The staff was friendly and attentive. The menu leans heavily to the Mexican side of things, but has a healthy dose of classic diner fare. I went for the steak fajitas and was not disappointed. Its a very generous portion for under $10. I was stuffed the rest of day. Definitely a good place to stop if you're on Hwy 58 and looking for a leg stretch and bite to eat. read more

Looking for a place to stop between Baskerville and Vegas for coffee. The restaurant was very busy with the food coming out of the kitchen fast. They don't serve expresso anymore so I got the special tacos with carna asada and a chocolate shake. Both were surprisingly excellent. Wait staff was great. Will go back. read more
