I hired DHI Roofing a year ago to repair hail damage to my home. The nightmare continues to this…read moreday. Client communications has been continuously problematic. Currently they are non-responsive. The roof replacement went well. Gutter replacement was okay. Siding replacement has been a nightmare. The first crew did such a horrid job that DHI had to tear the siding off and install it again. The second crew put a nail through electrical wiring that knocked out power to our internet box. When I turned on my air conditioning I found that they likely also put a nail into my in-wall coolant line which I am having repaired next week for nearly $4000. I cannot confirm until they rip it out to the wall, but a small hole I cut in the wall had a new nail just an inch from the line (and nowhere near a stud where it should be). I reached out to my project manager, Casey Jolley, 3 days ago and no reply. I reached out to his manager, Manny Santos, also and no reply. I called the main office this morning and they could not put me through to anyone I could discuss the issue with. They promised me 6 to 7 weeks ago that the garage doors would be replaced in 3 weeks. Nothing. Not a word from them. Other minor repairs that could have been completed in the past year are still not done.

No accountability! I am not a customer of Modern Concepts, HOWEVER someone with a similar address…read morewas and now I'm dealing with their mess. Modern Concepts was hired to roof a house, and their subcontractors put in the wrong address and started taking off MY roof. Midway they must have realized it was the wrong house and split without leaving me any contact information or picking up the nails in my driveway. Modern Concepts says they are not liable since they use a subcontractor. They take no ownership of this mistake and have not offered any assistance to resolving this issue. 2 weeks later and I have a tarp on my roof that I had to pay a different company to put up. Please do not use Modern Concepts, and hope and pray no one with a similar address or in your area does either. If they won't make situations right like this, they are not to be trusted.

I ended up firing the 1st company due to lack of work, quality of work, and no one showing up. This was a very tough decision to make since it was 2 weeks before Thanksgiving. I made some calls around and found KC Dream Kitchen and explained my situation to them. They let me know it was something that is normally out of their scope of work since they were going to have to come in and fix the previous contractors mistakes and they had to use the vendors I already purchased materials from. On November 8th I called KC Dream Kitchen to see if they could come out and look at my nightmare project. November 9th Clayton and his Project manager Gordon. They saw the scope of the project and took the time to let me know what they would have to redo from the previous contractor mistakes. When I was talking with them both I asked is it possible to have a functional kitchen for Thanksgiving. They let me know it would be tight but they felt up to the task. After doing more research on this company we decided to give them a chance and it turned out to be the best decision we ever made in this project. Sunday November 12th promise start date. Had 2 guys show up to fix the window that was installed off center from previous contractor. The window and siding turned out even better than we imagined. Monday November 13th a team of 4 showed up on time and started work. My wife and I couldn't believe the amount of mistakes the first contractors made. After day one they left and my house in the remodel area was cleaner than when they showed up to start work. Each day after they are done working they took the time to clean up so they could have a clean work space to start the next day. The crew showed up everyday during the week on time and we could see progression each day which the previous company we never saw. Fast forward to the Wednesday before Thanksgiving they have a crew of 13 people at my house trying to give me a functional kitchen which we had. When I say functional I wasn't wanting a completed kitchen because I knew that would be unrealistic . The first contractor I hired had my kitchen for 6 weeks and promise date was completion in 5 weeks. Out of those 6 weeks of having him they had 8 days were no one even showed up for work. When I fired the original company I would say they were only 40% complete on the job probably less but we did have most materials bought already. Do your research on hiring contractors as some of the reviews on Angi's list are not accurate. Plus don't always believe a contractor when it seems to good to be true. After 3 weeks of having KC Dream Kitchen as our contractor we had a completed kitchen we love! We have renewed faith that there are some good contractors out there! Their crews show up on time, clean at end of everyday, communicate next steps, do quality work, work with great vendors for fabrication, use quality materials, and don't over charge. If I could give this company more stars I would. If you have a kitchen remodel look no further as I would recommend this company to anyone and everyone. They fixed it in a timely manner and everything seemed to be as expected until we found that him and his crew had built the wall crushing one of her electricity lines causing her to lose power to 75% of the house. My mom is 86, and every time she had him help her, he would give her a price and by the time he was done, he had charged her triple than what he quoted her. We had used Melvin for a couple other jobs, fixing my mom's car and working on the water line in the basement. When he worked on the water line, he quoted her $1200. She told him she is on a fixed income and she could not spend more than $900. Melvin said ok and continued the work. When he was finished he came up and handed my mom a bill for $1700. My mom told him she didn't have that and he told her to take out a heloc loan On her home. He then texted her every week moving forward with an arrow and the total amount of $1700 circled. He was harassing her. When we found out about the electricity, We called Melvin because he promised us, he guarantees all of his work for life. We had told him that we had 3 other companies come out to test for the electricity and we had been shown 3 times it was crushed under the wall and the only lights that worked in my moms house were in the bedroom. It cost $5000 to fix it and Melvin told us he did not want to do the work, hire one of the companies and he would split it with my mom. My mom is 86 years old. This was in February. After calling Melvin every week for 3 months, he finally called my mom in May and paid her $1115. Still to this day, he has not paid her the other $1115 that he owes her. My mom is the sweetest lady and she has really struggled financially trying to stay in her home until she dies, and this man took such advantage of her, after he sat and prayed with her telling her she was family. This is a scam particularly on older people who don't have any idea what truly needs to be fixed. I would not trust him or recommend this company to anyone.
