I had 1st Response come out to get rid of Silverfish in my basement. They were here on Wednesday and spent the entire morning spraying and vacuuming with a big industrial Shop Vac. They seemed professional and well equipped. By Saturday, we were overrun with mice and more Silverfish than we had before they were here. I tried calling the emergency number and because it was a Holiday, they didn't call me back until the following week. They sent a guy out to look at the situation and he said he was the Owner's Son. They wanted to charge me the same Fee that they charged me on the first visit, saying they should have had access to the rest of the House! Never again. Don't trust these people and DON'T PAY THEM until you're sure they did the job. Bait and Switch takes on a whole new meaning when it comes to these Exterminators. After our dog was skunked for a second time in two weeks, I watched the skunk crawl back under our shed in the backyard so I knew we had to call someone. I requested a quote from 1st Response through yelp and the owner John responded within minutes. I called him on a Monday morning to schedule an appointment and he came out to our house that night. We was very helpful and thorough in showing me how to use the traps and what kind of bait might work to lure the skunk in. He was also very honest in that there are no guarantees when it comes to catching wildlife. We caught the skunk on the third night. I notified John via text message and he came out to remove it within a couple of hours. John is very honest, hard working and responsive. Very nice family business. They are thorough and friendly. They discovered a centipede nest outside of the house which explained why my home was infested with house centipedes of all sizes. I had to have the house sprayed twice, not surprisingly since I have woods out back. I haven't seen any since the second treatment. I would use them again. read more

After calling name brand exterminators, I decided to call a local guy because the name brand companies felt like they were trying to up-sale me without asking questions to what my pests were. John answered my call personally, and asked me specific to what I found, and by doing his fact finding he provided me with comfort knowledge in details of my pest and it's behavior. I had a soccer-ball sized hornet's nest in a tree that was both close to the ground and close to a sidewalk. It had to go. All my efforts (5 cans of wasp/hornet spray!) were ineffective. I used Yelp to put out a request for quotes and 1st Response had the most reasonable one. It also helped that they were local. John came, put on his "bee suit", and took care of getting rid of the nest quickly, effectively, and at a price I could live with. Embarrassed to say we had mice. I saw one run out one night as I entered the kitchen. Well I called John and while his initial price seems high its the same as the other guys except he actually gets the mice out and keeps them out. I was deterred by the upfront cost but I was much more worried about the plague, disease and overall nastiness of having even one mouse in my house. John was concerned since my home is a twin and said if the neighbors have the same issue and we don't find all the entry points between the two homes they may come back. I am happy to say I have not seen any signs in months. He educated me on the signs to look for as well as how to keep pest out. I realized shortly thereafter that the scratching noise I thought was birds near my bedroom window were probably mice in my wall. This was confirmed after John's last visit when I realized I no longer heard the noise from the window/wall area anymore no matter the time of day. I will say getting rid of the mice was not easy just set baits. I had tried that when I first moved in this house and thought they were going and they were for a time. John not only set baits and traps inside and outside but he scoured my home for entry points. We started in the basement, outside the house, next the kitchen, then the pantry and attic. Moving furniture, emptying cabinets and when I say we I mean me. His visits helped with my spring cleaning except in the fall. Before John came for each visit I cleaned out cabinets, moved storage shelves and even purged some. He found places my home inspector never even mentioned a years earlier that were obviously there from before I moved in. Using chicken wire, caulk and some other tools my home is pest free! John has answered my every call and concern even after the service contract was up. He has called to follow up and communicated with me regularly. He is worth every penny and more.
