Lamb is also a regional favorite; if you choose this, you should be pleasantly surprised. There are many take-away orders, which is often a sign that there are more customers who appear. (You can park downstairs, but you will need to find the stairs to walk up.) I do like the N2 braised beef noodle soup, N5 lamb noodle soup, and N4 spicy beef noodle soup. I love the flat noodles! I thought I left a review for this spot already but I'll leave another one because I have mad love for this joint. first of all location is spot on, you can't miss it, steps from the movie cinema, pretty much in the middle of the walk way strip ball. the whole entire wall is glass you can see right through to see whos eating, usually its half full with one worker just running around. everyone has a big bowl of delicious soup. I want to say I've tried 3-4 of their soups and their all bomb diggity. I've been to mainland china 10x and this is very authentic, the chef is actually chinese, everything about that spot is chinese. would try the other items, the menu is not super extensive either which I enjoy, sometimes they overkill it with the variety. read more

We decided to give 1919 Noodle Express a shot since there was a comfortable amount of patrons and we pleasantly surprised. the biangbiang noodles with chili oil topping (13.99) were quite good. They were flavorful, but without the intense punch that I expect. The spice was light, but still present. The noodles were chewy and delicious. I've had biangbiang noodles that were so drenched in spice that it hurt for a week and I was glad to see a more mild version. The special Dry Beef noodle (15.99) was a classic. It came with fatty beef chunks and a sufficient amount of noodles. It's a bit expensive considering how common this dish is in the 626. It was good, but nothing too special. We also added a cucumber salad (5.99) to get more fiber in our lives. Good seasoning and portion. Though some of the pieces were a bit mushy in the end. In general, a nice casual spot for dinner. $20 is a bit much per person, but these are times. read more

Our friends and I arrived on a Sunday around 7:30 PM and were lucky to snag seats. I wouldn't recommend coming here with a party larger than five since the space is quite small. One notable advantage this location has over the Arcadia one is the expanded menu. I didn't even know they offered rice plates ngl. That said, I can't really see myself ordering them when the hand-pulled noodles are the true star of the show. 1919 Noodle Express makes their noodles fresh, and you can really taste the quality. The noodles have an amazing springy texture, and the soup broth is mild but incredibly flavorful. My go-to order is the pickled cabbage beef noodle, but the dry noodles with fried bean sauce (zha jiang mian) are also a close favorite. I usually opt for the flat noodles; they're thicker and retain the "slurp factor" better than the wide noodles, which are thinner and prone to clumping together. We also ordered the cucumber salad, cold beef slices with cilantro, and beef roll pancakes. These were solid! Nothing mind-blowing, but if you're looking for extra protein, the cold beef slices with cilantro are a must-try. Service was quick--we received our orders within 10-15 minutes of ordering, and everyone's order came out at the same time. We also ordered the Vegetable Roll Pancake to share. All 3 items were delicious and a perfect end to our fun day. My noodles were bouncy, soft, and the wide width made it more enjoyable to eat. It was so filling I got to take half home to enjoy for another meal. This chef special did really make me feel special because the spicy level was already perfect for me - just spicy enough to take my taste buds for a fun time but not too spicy I'm jumping out of my seat. It was my first time having the Vegetable Roll Pancake dish. It had a fluffy texture with the green onion Pancake as the Roll, and a cruncy potato filling on the inside. Pho is a simple broth with minimal spice that they control with their own chili sauce to make it spicy, and add more to increase the spice. They offer you your choice of the thickness of the noodles, which is neat and great when you have a preference. Pho is decent. Wish they made a spicy broth instead of just adding chili to it to increase the spice, as it feels like the flavors have not had time to blend like when you make hour-long broths. Unfortunately the beef was slightly harder than I've had at other places. Gf got the mala spicy beef noodle soup with Angel hair noodles and definitely seemed like they weren't rinsed well. The broth was slightly milkier which made it taste unclean. Service was slow and lacking. Of all the tables around us, only us didn't get offered water. We purchased a hot tea $2 which should've been comped but it came unsafely hot. Since we had to leave, we asked for a to go cup to pour this in but they didn't have any. I can't believe that today is 82 degree hot and I am eating a hot spicy beef noodle soup without air conditioning. I didn't realize there is no AC conditioning inside this restaurant after I had ordered my noodle soup and I was being nice not to cancel my order and walk out. But I will never come back here again. I never been to a restaurant without AC. It is should be just a common courtesy running a restaurant with AC. Not sure if it will be health violation. Some customers will get heat stroke eating hot food at 82 degree hot. And I tried to ask about certain food info and my waitress speak no English at all. I got the braised beef noodle soup combo but swapping for the chef's special spicy beef noodle. Pros: - Noodle was definitely a good texture for me, but does run on the softer side if people are looking for Al dente - flavors are awesome with the spice similar to mala - portion wasn't too bad for the price - I really liked the bean curd side dish I picked. It was salty but not overly salty. - minus some errors, the server was courteous and overall service fast even with a full room. - noise level isn't bad - you can hear other people talk without the need to shout. Cons: - I would have liked more beef and would have paid more for it - the soup runs rather salty (much more than the side dish) - not a broth to drink if you have high blood pressure - there's a lot of floating items like chilis that will make it harder for you to grab the ground pork (in the case you are trying to fish the meat out to avoid the soup broth All-in-all, I found it rather enjoyable. I probably wouldn't come again on my own just because it was pretty salty and I want to watch my health, but I wouldn't be opposed to coming again either. My friend and I initially planned to grab dim sum at Atlantic Seafood and Dim Sum, but changed our minds when we found out the wait was over an hour. I'm not sure what are the difference between all the beef noodle soups out there - i honestly thought they were Taiwanese - but boy am i wrong. There are various styles across Asia. 1919 Noodle House focus on Lanzhou style beef noodles, which from my search on Wikipedia, is prepared in mind for Muslim diet. In terms of taste, I felt the broth was lighter and less oily than other beef noodle places I've been. I ordered my noodles in medium and it wasn't too spicy. They also had so many types of hand pulled noodles, which was very impressive. I appreciate thicker noodles as the "mouth feel" and "bite" adds to the experience. The service however was slow. There was one waitress running the whole store. I felt so bad, as she had to work the holiday. The tables weren't cleared timely as customers came in. We weren't in a rush, but we had to be patient for refills and the bill. The waitress, however, was super nice and knowledgeable. At the Monrovia location, the veggie roll pancake is my favorite - even more so than the regular beef one. Here, the pancake is similar but the shredded potato seems to have a little less flavor and there is no sauce whatsoever.
