Outstanding place we stopped here after doing our labs at the hospital across the street. Wonderful Christian theme for the ambiance. Many choices of coffee, tea and hot chocolate. They do not have decaf coffee so hopefully in the future they may look into that. Plenty of tempting pastries, cakes and their specialty Cruffins. My wife had the strawberry jam and I had the ham and Swiss. They both were to die for. Hot fresh and delicious that is for sure. Coffee served in a mug not a paper cup is very nice. Makes you feel at home. Plenty of comfy couches to relax in and enjoy the morning. Many spaces to enjoy the quiet of the day and relax. Spaces out back for our fur babies to enjoy time with. This is a cafe in Temple, Texas that I keep coming to. It is close to one of the most popular teaching hospitals in the state. This cafe always has lively people at all hours of the day. The only complaint I have about this cafe, is the hours. I wish they were open longer! None the less, the coffee is always good and they have a whole array to choose from, I have not tried their pastries, but the cheesecake is calling my name! It was just too bland with too much croissant. -But the absolute highlight of 1914 was the CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE. Favorite coffee spot in Temple!!! I love their Lotus plant based energy drinks. Needed a change from my usual heavy based coffee drinks and this was a delicious and healthy alternative. I tried both their Texas hurricane and Texas sunrise and it was very refreshing, energizing and tasty! My bf got their signature 1914 drink and it was strong and delicious. The shop is in a frame house in Ave R between 31st and 33rd. Near the hospital. The space is neat and well-laid out. I could see hanging here and working. Orders are taken by name and delivered. Nice touch. I stoked up a brief conversation with the owner who opened the place with his wife after a career with McLane. While visiting Temple for work I had a major craving for some tasty coffee that was not the corporate coffee maker that is down the street. I was also looking for a good spot to settle down with my laptop to answer emails and get a jumpstart on my work morning. This coffee house is the perfect spot for someone to do some solo reading, work remotely, meet with friends or coworkers, and overall post up here to get some coffee in your belly and maybe a pastry or protein box down. There are plenty of options for hot and cold drinks and pastries and little housemade bento protein boxes. I will forewarn you that the decor here is religious-based and Christian. I didn't mind it as it was fun to read the next phrase or sign in the small nooks and tabled areas where you can post up and work, read, and/or write. And in my opinion it doesn't matter what the decor or interior decor looks like or holds as long as the service is genuine (as it was here) and coffee/food is delicious (which this was too!) then I am a happy camper. Plenty of parking on the side of this small house but do pay attention to the sidewalk when walking up when it is dark or early in the morning. There is no much light outside to light up the walkway and stairs up to the coffee shop. I bet they get a lot of business from the medical area and are just loved by locals here. Visiting from Arkansas. This is my nieces favorite place so I wanted to try it out for myself. Got the white mocha with a cruffin that was the sausage and gravy. I'm not a fan of croissants so I was concerned but took the advice of my niece and am so glad I did. It was amazing! And the mocha was so delish!! Not too sweet but so very tasty. I discovered the spinach feta cruffin and it is possibly the best savory pastry, breakfast item, snack, dessert... whatever you want to call it... that I've ever had. After my husband visited this place and thoroughly enjoyed it, we decided to try it out. It is such a welcoming establishment. The people are super friendly, and the place was buzzing with customers! To get a quiet spot, we actually sat on the front porch and it was lovely. We're lucky because the temperatures outside are pretty hot at this point in the year (August in Central Texas) but the porch was covered and there was actually a nice breeze, so we were able to visit for an hour before it was time to call it quits and move on with our other activities for the day. To say I'm obsessed with coffee shops is a serious understatement. When I found out 1914 had opened right down the street from me, I was ecstatic!! I came in on a rainy day off and was immediately met with that cozy, hometown vibe that Temple's other coffee shops are missing. The repurposing of an old house with creaky wooden floors really added that rustic feel to the place, which I absolutely love. Aside from that, the shop itself is spacious, bright, filled with multiple tables/couches in different nooks. I'm more of a simpleton when it comes to my go-to drinks to really taste the coffee, so I ordered an Americano, and it was perfect! I could tell that it was made with care, as everyone working there was extremely friendly and hardworking. They have a lot of seasonal/unique drinks that look delicious for those who are actually fun (unlike me haha)! Being in medicine, I'm always looking for places to study/work outside of home, and 1914 fits the bill. Very glad to finally have a coffee shop that truly feels like one :) read more
