We've lived in the area for 11 years and never tried the Terrace Inn. On a whim, we stopped in on a July Saturday night and were pleased to be seated promptly the century old dining room. My husband and I have been staying at the Terrace Inn for many years and we can't say enough about how wonderful it is. The owners and staff are first class and the hotel is gorgeous . The rooms are all unique and decorated beautifully. Breakfast is included and is always delicious. I would highly recommend the restaurant for dinner as it is excellent. My husband and I came up here in summer of 2016 only could stay one night and before leaving booked a second stay. On our second stay we had a bigger bedroom and just so much enjoy it here. It's quiet and the staff are so friendly. Highly recommend staying here and eating here, the food is 5 star quality. I look forward to our stay again. read more

Historic dinning with very good food. We have dined here several times over the last couple of years and just recently we've taken friends with us. The service can be somewhat slow at times but the servers are always pleasant which helps immensely. Entrees tend to lean more old world style especially in the off seasons. A nice selection of chicken, pork, beef and fish are offered. Planked whitefish is one of the House specialty's and it never disappoints. Chicken schnitzel is always a favorite too. Entertainment is provided on the weekends it seems and it's always a nice addition to the historic interesting surroundings. Terrace porch dining is available in the warm weather months which is very nice even when raining as it's mostly covered. Always a nice choice of locally made pies and more for dessert if you have room as portions are fairly generous. For a nice change of pace and something different we recommend trying the historic 1911 restaurant in Bayview. read more

What do you get when you combine a charming inn found in a beautiful neighborhood with one of the best restaurants in the area? The Terrace Inn in Bay View. Rooms are of older Victorian decor. Normally, I'd rather stay in a more modern accommodation, but I really did not mind the rooms, as they seem to make sense with the surroundings and neighborhood. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Any small request was tended to. Perhaps the most memorable part of my stay was the morning breakfast on the large porch. With everything made from scratch, all meals were delicious. My wife can't stop talking about the homemade granola. Hidden in the floor under the lobby is an ice cream shop. Make sure to visit this - the scoops are generous for just a few dollars. I would definitely stay here next time. Even if I were to stay somewhere else, grabbing dinner here is definitely worth it. read more

This place is cute, quaint, quiet, and uniquely historical. Rumors abound that it is even haunted - which is kind of exciting...Although I didn't experience any ghosts (bummer). Anyways - it's within a "block" of the waterfront & you can easily walk down the street to get a nice view. We stayed here in 2019 and there were a few issues with the bedding but I brought them to the attention of the hotel staff and they remedied the problem. read more

We recently stayed 1 night at the Terrace Inn. Beautiful historic building. Our room was clean, bed was comfy & thankfully the small window AC unit was adequate to keep things cool during an unusual hot spell. My only grip regarding the room was the bathroom, I understand they have to make due with the space available however the shower is almost unusable for a person over 6 feet tall. I would assume with some of the bigger rooms this is not an issue. They do have beach access (short walk over the steel foot bridge) however I would skip it and head to the state park just a few miles away. The complimentary breakfast was very nice, served buffet style load up your plate and head to the back terrace for a very nice view. Parking can be a bit tough as their lot only has a few spaces, if you get back late plan on finding a spot on the street. I was a bit confused on where I could legally park overnight. One last thing. The $5 key deposit is ridiculous. It forces you to have to wait to check out & they only have one person working the desk. There was only 2 people a head of me but it was a frustrating unnecessary wait when you are in a rush. Overall a pleasant stay. read more

Beautiful Victorian B&B in the Bay View Association area - a gorgeous place to walk and see all the historical homes and gardens. There's also a wooded area with trails. Delicious breakfast, too, included. In 1911 restaurant (year it was built) Sunday and Monday are pizza and salad nights. Yum. Several people were coming in to pick up their take-out orders. The owners, Mo and Patty, went out of their way for us. We had a cozy, comfortable, airy room. It was a cool day and we really wanted fresh air, so Mo came up personally and removed the air conditioner for us. The creaks and ghost stories add to the character of the place. The wide front porch overlooking the front yard about 100 steps down, and a view of the bay is conducive to lingering meals or engaging in conversation with the next table (as we did, and ended up chatting/drinking wine for 2 hours!). read more

This place is a gem! I will give the food 4 stars (really close to a 5 star rating) and I will give the atmosphere 5 stars! Tucked into a neighborhood this restaurant/Inn is a great place to enjoy a wonderful meal. I had the whitefish which was very good (I would prefer they not add cheese to top but that is just me). My wife had a walleye special that was outstanding and the filets were huge! Appetizers were great and the wine list is above average! They had a guitar player that was a nice touch. A nice Inn, with a history dating back to 1911, the rooms have a lot of character, great towels and all of this in quiet peaceful surroundings. Their staff seems rather obsequious, which brings me to their few problems. For example, though the staff was eager to please they lacked some basic attention to detail. (Pens with checks, cream with coffee, busing trays left in the dinging area and rubbery jellies that may have been the result of them being left in the sun too long.) Inconsistencies could be from turnover right before the busy season, but it all made us wonder about training. Food quality was also inconsistent. We did, however, learn that the new Chef wants a larger kitchen, though not sure if a larger kitchen would mean customers would receive hot breakfast when it couldn't happen for the few guests that were there in the off season. The Inn is billed as a B&B and you can have a bed and breakfast but don't go over $10 or you will have to pay extra. Customarily a B&B is all-inclusive with the exception of any alcohol or tips. The paperwork was a nightmare. I can understand the need for paperwork and itemizing costs, but this should be as seamless as possible to guests. We found this place based on Yelp and reviews of Chef Kevin. Hopefully the owners, who were very hospitable, will be able to pull this unpolished gem back to its former luster. read more

We originally planned to stay in Charlevois and didn't realize we were booking a room in Petoskey, we were a little disappointed. But our disappointment didn't last long, what a wonderful mistake!!! Couldn't have asked for a more perfect place nestled in the most beautiful neighborhood. The staff gets an A+, I've never stayed anywhere that has had any better. The Inn stays true to its period and that of the neighborhood that surrounds it. Breakfast is amazing and the scones and granola are the best. First let me start by saying that we booked this room on B&B.com. This is not a B&B in its truest sense other than they do have beds and did serve a morning buffet style breakfast. It is a period correct 'hotel', not a traditional style home with rooms for rent and an owner/ curator serving you home-made yogurt from grandma's own recipe. It's Yoplait for everyone! Nothing to impressive. The rooms were clean and the staff friendly. The hotel itself was really cool and nested amongst some beautiful old Victorian cottages. So come for the ambience, not the morning grub. read more

Last night we celebrated a dear friends birthday with 8 people for dinner. Everyone enjoyed their meal whether it was filet or whitefish or walleye or pasta. The 1911 Restaurant was very good - 5 stars. My wife had the filet, and I had the chicken, as part of the prix fixe menu. The Inn itself was just adequate. We stayed in the Garden Suite. It was large and roomy; there's a full kitchen with microwave, refrigerator/freezer, and dishes. The decor looks like it has not changed since the 1950s. Rustic. The bedroom windows open onto the terrace where there is seating for diners, and the curtains are not opaque. This makes for some potentially awkward situations. The WiFi in the Garden Suite was bad. The staff was friendly in trying to address the situation, but it never was. We stayed three nights and never got maid service. Except for the towels, this was not a critical issue, and one of the days we declined the service since they came at 3:30 p.m. and we had just returned to the room from a day out. If one is looking for a quaint, unique place to stay, and realize that many of the modern expectations (WiFi, newer furniture, etc.) will not be met, this may be a good choice. read more

We booked at the last minute and got a very small room with a tiny shower, but the properties in the neighborhood were very cute and charming. Solid American breakfast, biscuits and gravy in the morning that we were there. Very nice staff. About a mile walk to town which was nice with the weather when we were there in August. We came to celebrate our anniversary. The GPS took us to the back entrance but we ended up going around the block and found the front entrance with the steps. So pretty! We ate inside and the dining room was beautiful. We chose the prix fixe three meal. Wonderful choices! We started with the Caesar Wedge salad. The dressing was very good, not too strong and their homemade bread was delicious. For our main course, my husband had the Ribeye and I had the pretzel crusted walleye. His steak was very good, flavorful and had a little more fat than expected. The walleye was done just right, not to soft. For dessert we had the crème brûlée and flourless chocolate cake. Amazing and the best part of the meal! Our service was good although it would have been nice to have a little more personal attention. The server seemed not super friendly. The host/owner was very kind and we would definitely celebrate our anniversary here again. read more

They have the best crab cakes around! They use some special seasoning on the prime rib that is the bomb. The only knock we had was that we had a 6:00 P.M. reservation and they already ran out of asparagus which was the vegetable of the day. Otherwise everything was great! read more

I had the planked whitefish (parmigiana - there were several choices). It was quite good. My date had the walleye and called it the best meal she's had in quite a while. Salads and deserts were also delicious. Atmosphere is a journey back to 1911 but the WiFi is awfully good for that year ;-). If you can get seated on the terrace do but the dining room is fine too. We arrived in Petoskey and were staying at the Inn. The front staff was very friendly, and had several suggestions for dinner, since the dining room was unavailable that night. The room on the 3rd floor was fine - but weird that no one else was really on the floor ? Met and chatted with the owners several times, and again, everyone was friendly, Sat out on the front porch some of the time, and the back porch some of the time. You are pretty removed from most things - as the Bay View are is not part of central Petoskey, so we drove around to get to things.... like downtown, or out to Harbor Springs. This neat B&B was loaded with character and charm. Victorian style. Fairly old but kept up nicely, all of the unoccupied rooms were open to look at. They each had a different theme of sorts and colors. The decorations were so unique and cute, gotta love vintage! The floors are uneven from all the settling as well, but it was kinda cool. It is said to be haunted as well and many guests claim to have seen one or two of them. Not mean ones, just kinda there. The breakfast was very nice and on the house and the dining hall was beautiful. All the old wood was so pretty! Make sure you try out the dinner at least once while you are there. The chef is amazing and the prices are definitely worth it. I had the Chicken Hemingway and it was to die for with cherries, basil and cream. Pair it with the recommended wine for sure! Hubby had the whitefish and loved it. We also had sandwiches at lunch that were delicious. Managed to get the same server each time, was OK cause he was the most experienced and it was great. The owner himself came around to every table to see how everything was. He even gave a Military discount. he used to be Air Force, I think. All in all, great place to stay and great food! We were visiting Petoskey last summer and our friends brought us here to dine. That day, the choices were planked whitefish or pizza. We all ordered the planked fish that had a choice of Parmesan or chili lime topping. I chose the chili lime and the rest had Parmesan. Since I tasted my companion's dish I later realized that they all tasted the same. What happened to the chili-lime. I should have brought it to their attention but it did not occur to me at the time bc we were all engaged in conversation. Although the person waiting on us was very nice he seem quite preoccupied and probably put the wrong order for me. read more

This is my second and last time here. We went Monday for pizza night. They also had their signature plank fish. It was not busy but it took 1 hour to get our food. I heard others talking about 1 1/2 hours. The pizza came out burnt and the plank fish was cold. Several other people also had burnt food. On top of that they charged $5 to split the whitefish. We were never told about this extra charge and it was not on the menu. We asked several time for more water, but never got it. The restaurant area is small, but the service and food was terrible. read more

My husband and I have been guests of Terrace Inn about twice a year for many years. Friends in nearby Harbor Springs brought Bay View to our attention. We used to rent one of the charming Victorian homes in Bay View when our children were young. Now we traditionally celebrate Valentine's weekend at Terrace Inn each February and return again in the summer. In the winter, we enjoy the fireplace in the first floor living room. Our last visit was Memorial Day weekend. The dining room and veranda are charming. Although we were accustomed to the breakfast buffet in the past, the new breakfast service was a delightful surprise. Each guest receives a voucher towards breakfast. It is easy to stay within the value of the voucher. The food was delicious and beautifully plated. We also tried the Sunday pizza night. The custom pizza was wonderful. It was nice to be able to order a cocktail too. (In years past, no liquor was available.) The beds are particularly comfortable. We always choose a "cottage room" since Victorian era ammonites are not something we have at home. Our friends have stayed in and enjoyed the updated deluxe rooms. It is also a wedding venue. On staff, Art married our friends at a nearby venue and we all stayed at Terrace Inn. Each room is decorated differently and is very clean. We usually ask for a room on the side where a small view of Little Traverse Bay can be seen. Free WIFI is available, but can be sporadic. Of course, this is not too important if you're there for a relaxing getaway. It is a pleasant walk to the private beach and Petoskey. A bike path is also nearby. The innkeepers Mo and Patty, and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. read more

Such a charming B&B tucked back from M-31 in a quiet, historical neighborhood. Super-close to walkable dowtown Petoskey and a short, scenic drive to Charlevoix and Harbor Springs. All the rooms at the Terrace Inn are graced with flowery "shabby chic" decor and some have a fireplace and a hot tub. My room was a king for a really great price (of couse this is in mid Oct.) and noted to be a room with paranormal activity as per my request. :0) Ghosts or no ghosts i had a realxing fall getaway! read more

First off SUPER nice staff. SUPER location in Bay View. But... Remember your grama's house when someone flushed the toilet and you got scalded? How 'bout when you looked at Uncle Fred's lights flickering when he turned on his new (very weak) window a/c? Are you under 5' or prefer the shower head to hit you below the shoulders? If you find these quaint you would like this place. Breakfast was pre-packaged pastries, egg and potato casserole type dishes, bacon, sausage, I ripened fruit, and not much else...so for a place with a nice restaurant it was not impressive or even tempting. Ordered oatmeal one morning which was the worst I have ever tasted and I like oatmeal. Found dinner overpriced and bland. Also twin rooms are VERY small...even the "superior" one which we had left little room to maneuver. Bring a good book because tv channels are very limited. Nice outdoor reading and walking areas. Needs electrical, plumbing, a/c updates. Needed a good scrubbing of everything such as furniture which was sticky and many areas in need of touch up. Wish them much luck but they could be so much more which was what I was hoping for... read more

We stayed here last year because we had a Groupon for it. Had a nice stay with breakfast included. It's definitely better than a chain restaurant breakfast. We stayed here again the other week. Our room was cute, looked updated (which was different than last year) and was very accommodating. Breakfast was still included and still very good. Coffee, tea, scones, hashbrown bake, egg bake, fresh fruit, yogurt, etc. Very good. Relatively quiet and everyone seems to respect each other. Only downsides were that we had tiny bugs all over the ceiling that somehow got in through a window or the air conditioner in the window which made it difficult to sleep and we were saddened to hear they didn't allow dogs except for one room somewhere not attached to the main hotel? We didn't quite get the details on that because they told us it was booked for awhile. Overall, I think this is our new go-to hotel when staying in Petoskey! read more
