I bought a GE (Rheem) water heater which failed after six years. After many phone calls and hemming and hawing, no one at GE or 1 800 heaters (or Home Depot where the heater was really purchased seems interested in returning a call or offering to step up on this. I have bought more than a dozen water heaters of the years and NONE failed at six years; they typically last 10 years. I would give GE and Rheem a FAIL on the quality of their product and 1800 heaters a fail for ignoring their customer. read more

I asked for them to do the job right with proper valves etc and they did and added an extra few hundred dollars to the installation of the hot water heater. They did a good job making it work in a tight space. But I cannot forgive them for not taking 5 minutes to unclog the drain port in the drain pan that is underneath the heater and inaccessible. read more

1800Heaters installed my new water heater from Home Depot. It's very convenient because Home Depot has financing. But 1800Heaters did an excellent job. I made the application at Home Depot on Sunday, 9:00pm and 1800Heaters called me right away. The customer service rep was pleasant and professional. Everything went smoothly for the next day installation. What's amazing is, she recommended I apply for a $300 rebate to NJCleanenergy.com which I did. Michael, the technician at 1800Heaters was professional, quick and punctual. I called American Way Plumbing first but they charged me $500 more and they didn't mention about the rebate. I even paid the guy $80 just to tell me that I need to replace my heater. A word of advise, if your water heater leaks, don't waste your time calling for diagnostics. Just replace it right away, you'll save $75 consultation fee. Call 1800Heaters right away. read more

These people are beyond horrible! Avoid at all costs! They are subcontractors for Home Depot, and I wish I had seen all the terrible reviews before I placed my order. I took a day off work to have the installation done, and while they did show up on time, they brought the wrong water heater! They wanted to return the next week with the correct one, and when I made a fuss with their office, they agreed to have another one of their employees bring the correct heater while the technician was removing the old one. Here's their scam. They insisted I needed new water valves (and quoted wildly inflated prices...5 times as much as you would pay for the same valves at Home Depot). No doubt they know at this point many customers are desperate enough that they will pay pretty much whatever it takes to get their hot water functioning again. Sounds like what they are doing is paying technicians by the job (thereby motivating the technicians to cut corners) and offering their technicians bonuses for selling customers extra work that is not needed at wildly inflated prices. When I called their bluff and told them I was not going ahead with the job, they agreed to sell me the valves for slightly more than the Home Depot cost. The final issue was that the technician tried to move the old water heater without first emptying it, and it broke open and flooded the basement. Complete incompetence. There people should have their plumbing license pulled and the owner should be thrown in jail for fraud. read more

Agreed quote included installation but once the plumber got here he tackle on an additional 1k on top of the quote. He try to charge 400 to cut the pipe to fit the new heater, 450 for the gas pipe, and another 300 for the exhaust. Overall hidden charges were more than the agreed price. I don't see how anyone can trust these guys. I obviously turned him away. They are a trusted vendor of HomeDepot and I doubt HD knows or would encourage these behaviors. read more

These entitled contractors show up to replace my hot water heater in Downtown Boston, but instead of doing the job for $2100 they are too worried about getting a ticket (that I'll pay) to park in the spot they're already idling in so they drive off. I've had my entire unit gut renovated including the hot water heater replaced by Sears in the past - and somehow these snowflakes think they're different than every other contractor that has ever done work before. If they're management can't figure out that a $100 ticket (covered by the customer) is worth a $2100 job that they're already on site for then I'm glad I don't have these "experts" trying to figure out how to reconnect PVC or solder a couple pipes. God forbid these guys had to carry tools and the old water heater a couple blocks to and from a parking garage I was willing to pay for the get the job done. They were "experts" in excuses of white unmarked van height as well.. Complete garbage company read more

Worst customer service i have ever worked with. This company doesn't call you back, they dont tell you all the charges until they come out to see you. Home Depot needs to find a new installation company. I just cancelled my water heater from home depot. Im going to Lowes!!!! 1800heaters SUCKS!!! read more

Had a Sears Kenmore hot water heater which failed in early December. My tank was under warranty, but Sears no longer sells them. After two weeks of being on hold for hours and hours every time, I was told to purchase my own tank. So I purchased a hot water heater from Home Depot who referred me to 1800Heaters to install my new tank. 1800heaters did quote me a price. I agreed because after two weeks, I needed hot water. The new hot water tank cost $594. The plumber's labor to deliver, install, remove old tank and permits was over $1,200. Now the fun. First, the plumber schedule a time, but then had to reschedule which I agreed. Second, when the plumber arrived, he stated that his helper called in sick and asked if I could help him remove my old tank which I agreed. Third, while installing my tank, he kept getting calls and was instructing the person (my guess, his helper) on how to install something. Finally, after the installation, I checked with my town and discovered that he never pulled any permits. When informed 1800Heaters of this, two days later the plumber got the permits and called me. The labor costs are double what the average cost are in this area. Extremely disappointed in this whole scenario. read more

So bought the gas heater thru home depot 1800 number, once you say water heater the 1800 number directs you to type in your zip code, after you get transferred to 1800 heaters who is the vendor for the area for home depot. some small issues with this you don't get a itemized bill with the water heater info you only get a home depot had written receipt that states "recall amount order number and only price." this water heater that I purchased has a 12 year warrant I wanted to a receipt with the purchase price of the water heater just in case. so after a few phones calls to 1800 home depot install number home depot DID send a customer order report generated from the local store which does show the water heater purchase just not the price. the install team were great, one small thing they co did charge 95.00 for a water valve that only took a few mins. so only extra 95 from org price. must say Rose was very nice /helpful in the billing Dept with helping me get the info needed in case I wanted to get the extended warranty. li read more

This company is the biggest ripoff I ever delt with. Before I start on my experience with this company, this company only sent one guy to replace a 50 gallon heater that was in the basement of a old house with a hand truck that was beat up. The plumber struggled getting the heater up. At one point I thought this guy was gonna get hurt at my house. He told me they only send one guy to save money. I was like wow! Now let get into the installation. When I called them they told me one price over phone. When the plumber got to my house he tagged another 700 dollars. I was shocked and had no choice to pay it cause I was going on vacation and my mother was gonna be home. After I paid all that money two days later my mom called in Mexico saying there's water all over in the basement. The new water heater they installed was leaking. They had to come out again. Wouldn't take anything off. If you care about your house call someone else. They may sound good over the phone but it's a different story when they get into your house. Good luck. read more

Called about an appointment on Monday. Never got a call back. They probably get so much work from HD that they don't care

Dispatch service for Massachusetts is abysmal. There was a fella named Yardlee who did a very bad job of coordinating and ensuring receipt of images of the tank. He said he never received images of the tank. The tenant said she sent to him at 840a. She nudges me the afternoon after 12p and said they have not showed up yet. I called the dispatch center and they said they never received a text message from the tenant with the image of the water heater. My problem is, if you called her, talked to her on the phone and asked her to send the images, if you did not receive the images from her 30mins to 1hr later, shouldn't you be calling her back and asking what happened?!? NO instead he lets the day wane on, and eventually I call him and asked him why no one showed up, he said she never sent him the images. I checked with her and she said she did at 840a. I find this dispatcher to be lazy and naive. Now because the clock ticked for half of the day, my tenant will have to wait a whole 'nother day for water heater install. I am not happy 1800Heaters and HomeDepot. Terrible service. read more

My existing water broke on Fri 12/6/19. After speaking to Home Depot contractor 1-800-HEATER they instructed me to purchase a new water heater at Home Depot which I did on Sat 12/7/19. They arrived and installed it on Mon 12/9/19. The crew was great. Unfortunately something was wrong with the unit. Multiple error codes confirmed that it was defective. I called 1-800-HEATER at 7:45pm 12/9/19 to explain problem. They confirmed issue would be resolved next day (today) Tues 12/10/19. I called at 9:00am - 1-800 HEATER informed me that I had to buy a 2nd unit myself before they would install. I finally gave in and went to Home Depot and bought a 2nd unit (Staff at Natick store was great). I then called 1-800-HEATER back letting them know I had new unit in hand and was ready for installation. Supervisor (Mike) at 1-800-HEATER then said he would charge me for a 2nd installation. What???. The installer informed me that he was in next town at 9am this morning (Newton) and could have easily come by and replaced broken unit, but "supervisor" wouldn't allow him too. After much discussion (1-800-HEATER supervisor actually yelling at me) we got Home Depot Natick manager on phone (I think Mike) and they immediately informed the 1-800-HEATER supervsior that "of course the labor on 2nd water heater would not cost the customer a cent." Home Depot will submit claim direct to Rheem. (Thank you Home DEpot Natick!)....but PLEASE find another contractor for your water heater installations -- now I know why they have less than 2 stars on YELP. I give Home Depot 5 stars --- don't have your great reputation ruined but this horrible contractor. read more

Stay away. There were supposed to install my hot water heater on Tuesday. They never showed up. 4 calls to them and each time i was told they would research and call back. I never received a call back and its been a week and no hot water heater. I gues they don't want my money. read more

AWFUL!!!! Do not use this place. I was quoted $1400 over the phone, the extraordinarily rude and condescending plumber showed up and raised the price to $3000!!!!! I ended up using a local plumber who did the work for $1400 and on top of it they fixed 2 pipes that were out of code for free, plus they were friendly good people. Don't waste your time or your money with these scam artists! read more

Our water heater began leaking and we placed an order through home depot which contracted out to them. The price gouging I accepted as long as the job was done to completion. Adam came and changed out our water heater, left the check valve leaking then told me matter of fact that he recommended changing it out for more money at another time because its 'corroded'. How does a plumber fix one leak and leave another leak before he left? read more

I knew our water heater was old I just didn't remember how old it was/when we installed it. It was still working fine but as they say these can go at any time after their warranty period is up and when they do it could be a real problem. As it turned out, our 75 gal gas hot water heater was installed in 2002-so even though it didn't look it, it was 15 years old-way passed it's original 6 year warranty. We decided it was time to replace it and by chance we had gotten a Special Financing offer from Home Depot for 24 months of 0% interest-a great deal. I went on the Home Depot website , reviewed their line of hot water heaters, found the one we needed and called their Water Heater replacement tel number to arrange an install - they offer same day service if you call before noon. As it happened, I was calling on July 2nd, the Sunday morning before the 4th of July Holiday at 8am. No one answered I left a message figuring I'll get a callback the following day. Pleasant surprise, at 10am I got a callback from a representative from 1-800 Heaters, the installation company for Home Depot. Not only did they have the water heater I looked up in stock, but they could come out the next day, Monday July 3rd, between 12 noon and 4pm (convenient since I would be home on a vacation day) to install it. So far a great deal all around. I placed the order and the following day the installation team of Jamie P. showed up on scheduled. Within 2 hours they had removed my old hot water heater; installed a brand new quality rated 75 gal hot water heater, they performed the necessary upgrades to bring my water heater installation up to all the plumbing / venting code requirements that had come into place in my town since my last install. Having dealt with many types of contractors and installations, I can recognize a bad one from a good one. The icing on the cake was the excellent, very professional, neat and clean installation job Jamie P. and his team did. When they left you couldn't tell anyone had been working, cutting pipes/soldering there. Thanks to Home Depot, 1-800Heaters and Jamie P., I now have a brand new hot water heater with a 12 year tank/parts warranty (does not need to be replaced till 2029) and 6 year in home labor (thanks to a very inexpensive extended HD service plan) and peace of mind. read more

On Monday 10/16/17 I had a water heater installed thru The Home Depot which 1-800-Heaters is the installer. Tech came to my home installed the water heater, and before he left my husband noticed a leak coming from the joint right above the cold line shut off valve or the joint right above it. He informed the tech and he SUPPOSEDLY soldered it. My husband assumed it was fixed so he signed off on the paper work. I got home from work, I work for The Home Depot, went down the basement and noticed water on top of the water heater which was slowly dripping from that same location causing a puddle on top of the water heater. Also I found a new roll of electrical tape on a shelf right next to the heater. The tech had used electrical tape to wrap the joint !!!!!!!!!! We had to shut off the power so the water wouldn't get to the electrical cord on top of the heater. I called 1-800-Heaters, they sent another tech out on Tuesday 10/17/17 and told my husband that since my husband signed off on the paperwork we would be charged an additional $150....they wouldn't budge!!! As a HD associate this is the worst customer service!!! I shouldn't have been charged anything because my husband pointed it out to the tech before he signed off on the papers and assumed the tech fixed it and he didn't!!! I would not recommend this company for any water heater installs!!! read more

The worst! Stay Away! I would give ZERO stars if I could. The employees are rude, argumentative, and unprofessional. Don't bother asking for a supervisor, because the supervisor is even worse! They gave me the runaround for over a week and after spending over an hour with them on the phone, they never saved my order and became defensive and condescending when I asked why. They also do not return phone calls, but will lie that they called you back. I called a local plumber and he gave me a more competitive rate with friendlier service. Bigger is not always better....stick with the local guy and don't bother with this joke of a company! They shouldn't even be in business with the type of attitude the workers have. Thumbs down! read more

Issac P is truly a master of his craft! My old water heater was installed in a raised closet in my garage. They no longer make water heaters with the same diameter so I knew the one I was installing was going to be tight. I looked into it a couple of years ago and the installers who arrived promptly left saying it couldn't be done. This time, I was lucky to get Issac P, he is an expert installer. He put in a tremendous amount of extra effort, it was not an easy install by any means and required a lot of new piping but he did a beautiful job and even seemed to enjoy the challenge. I am absolutely thrilled with his work and so grateful that he did not give up on the job and walk away as others had done. Issac and the installation work definitely merit 5 stars. The only reason I gave 4 was because of the expense. As other reviewers have mentioned, the installation through Home Depot is much more expensive than it would be if you used local installers. It turns out that my installation was worth the expense because of the extra work involved but the price was way too high for a simple install. read more

As far as the installation of the water heater goes, I would give them at least 4 stars. But the real story is the scam they have going with Home Depot. 1800Heaters is the installer for all water heaters sold through HD. However, they will deal with you direct as well. They quoted on the same Rheem unit as stocked at HD. The issue is that they quoted $91 higher than HD. When I challenged them about it, they immediately gave me a $100 "good customer discount". What a gotcha game. It makes me sick to think that they are ripping people off who haven't done their homework. then it gets better when the installer comes to your house. I knew I would need a step chimney flue duct from 3" to 4" due to the new code in my town. They refuse to provide an estimate of the cost over the phone but tell you that you can send the guy home if you don't want to go ahead with the work. This turns out to be a ridiculous assurance since your water heater is usually leaking when you call to have it replaced and you have already taken the afternoon off from work. And they don't tell you that it will cost you $50 to send him away. But the real issue is that the quote was $275 to install about 12-18" inches of galvanized metal duct which took about 15 minutes. What a rip-off. And the installer knew it. How could you not. So you submit to this highway robbery to get the job done and then they present you with an invoice from Home Depot!! So who are you doing business with? Home Depot is every bit as culpable as 1800Heaters in the disgraceful business scam. My complaints to HD have gone unanswered. BBB is next. Shameful! read more

These guys are subcontractors for Home Depot. I had a hot water heater installed in my late father's condo that had flooded and needed a total renovation before it could be sold. They got the permit and proceeded to NOT install it up to code. When it failed, they charged us an extra $175.00 to bring it up to code. When I inquired as to why, I was told that it was all explained to my sister, who was there that day for the installation. They claim she refused the 4" flue that was needed to pass inspection and signed off on it. NOT ONE WORD WAS SAID TO MY SISTER ! They refuse to refund our money, which we had to pay because we couldn't hold up the closing. We know nothing about hot water heaters, why would I want it to fail the township inspection therefore requiring a service call with an added expense. I also wonder if it was a danger, as it was not up to code for at least a week. I'm also done with Home Depot and their subcontractors. Stick with the little local guy ! read more
