I know there are a ton of 1-2 star ratings but I am writing based on our experience. No one wants to deal with a burst water tank. Aside from significant damage to our finished basement flooring and a wall that had to be knocked down, we were scrambling to get our water heater tank replaced. 1800 Heaters was recommended by Home Depot. They were able to come immediately with a new tank and a quote was given over the phone. We were given a window of 11-3pm. Felix came to our house at 12pm and went right to work. First thing I noticed was how young he was, like my son's age. I'm like, does he know what's he's doing? I was surprised that it would be just him doing the entire job. Let me tell you, you will be in excellent, competent hands if you get FELIX!!! He was friendly, personable and professional with an upbeat attitude. He did a beautiful job installing our new water tank. There were no hiccups given how tight the space was. We also never had a contractor reduce the actual price given. Felix said one of the gas pipe did not need to be replaced. We got a couple of hundreds knocked off. Thank you for being so honest with us. I ordered a Hot Water Heater from Home Depot who contracts with 1800HEATERS for the installation. They in turn sent someone from Hall & Sons plumbing. At some point before the technician left my house he broke the window pane in my son's bedroom (the hot water heater is located in a closet). He never said a word to me about it but placed the broken pane on the floor behind a portable AC to the left of the window itself. I called 1800HEATERS immediately after the technician left and I discovered the broken glass. I was told that a customer service manager would call me on Monday morning. No one ever called. I called at 1pm and spoke with Eddie who would not provide me with his last name. He was quite rude and implied that it wasn't broken during my installation because I "didn't hear it break". He then told me that he was submitting the information and that I would have a resolution by the end of business day. Again, no phone call was received. I called back the following morning and was told that the manager would call me when he arrived at 10am. He called and was again extremely rude and condescending. He informed me that a damage claim was already filed with Home Depot (which turned out to be another lie) and that there was nothing else he could do for me. When I asked who I should contact at Home Depot or what department he told me that he had no idea who I should call and didn't provide me with any further information. Installation of Hotwater Heater. Absolutely the worst service provider we have ever used. They showed up hours late for the initial appointment, didn't get the work done, was supposed to come the next day, which I took a day off of work, then never showed. Never communicating with us. The following day, again they were hours late, took twice the time they told us it would take, they charged us for an additional $850 without getting our approval and without telling us what the charge was for. I had my new hpt water tank installed by this company. They replaced it after I had no hot water 2 weeks later. They fixed it, but ended up replacing it. Guess what I don't have hot water again for the 3rd or so time. I was told by another plumber that the moisture detector was tripping. But there is no visible moisture. Before even get the water into the basement, the reject told me previous installation is not approved, so he wanted to sell me more stuff to bring it up to code. Garbage company with an even worse garbage scheduler. I didn't have the privilege of them screwing up my hot water heater. I wish I had known these were the contractors for Home Depot where I bought a toilet. Not sure why 1-800 heaters is installing toilets but after several days never got a phone call to schedule the install. I called them the woman said the scheduler woman would call me back in an hour never called me back for the entire day. The next morning I called first thing and asked to speak to the scheduler he said she wasn't in yet but as soon as she got in she would get another note to call me. Never called me back. Called Home Depot spoke to a manager he called them and said she would call me back in a half hour and never called me back. I canceled my order and bought a toilet at Lowe's. Hire these guys if you are in the market to spend $3k on labor for a water heater install.

first off, I was told by Lowe's that 1800HeatersInc would be calling me to schedule a time to install a new water heater within 24 hours. I waited over 48 hours and finally called them, and to my surprise they already had my info. The "plumber" called me to set up a time. I asked for a later time but he said he liked it in the mornings so I switched shifts around at work to accommodate him. He called me 15 minutes before he was supposed to show up and told me a part wasn't in for my heater And that he would need to reschedule for the next morning. Keep in mind he was supposed to be coming from an hour away. I told him no, that I switched shifts around to make this work, so he magically was able to make it work for me after my shift the next day. He was very rude while he was here and it was obvious it's about the money to him. He repeatedly said "I'll do what I can to make a few bucks." he told me the tank needed to drain and he would pic it up the next week. I reached out for him to pick it up the next week and he eventually never replied. I reached out to 1800heaters and they supposedly reached out to him but again no reply. The old water tank is still sitting in my basement as we speak. I did pay for a 12 year warranty hot water tank, so bill for that was $1900. The hot water tank itself is $588 at Lowe's. But i was charged $250 for new hot and cold water lines. $35 each at Lowe's. Then the exact Lowes expansion tank he used was originally $38, but he charged me $347. They took iver 3 weeks to send me an itemized bill. they charged me all together was $2551. If you add the original few things together without labor it comes to $696. So are you telling me the labor for a simple hot water tank installation is $1855? Will never use them again. read more

A very bad experience. My 40-year-old hot water heater died as the result of a burst pipe in my home. I contacted Lowe's to obtain a replacement. They had one delivered and assured me that their installers - 1800Heaters - would get everything installed for me. Ever since the installation of the new hot water heater with this company, I have had trouble with my hot water. With my old hot water heater, I never had any problems with my hot water. With this new heater, my hot water lasts for no time at all. If I am taking a shower, for instance, my hot water lasts only about 10 minutes and then the water goes cold. I have a 30-gallon tank, I am the only person living here. I am quite sure that one shower should not use all the hot water in a 30-gallon tank in 10 minutes. My old hot water heater was over 40 years old, I have lived here for over 15 years, and never once did I run out of hot water while showering - not even when my grandson has stayed with me and we both took showers on the same morning. There is something wrong with the new heater or the installation or both. They sent someone around to look into it and the consensus of opinion seems to be "Live with it". I have nevertheless continued to try to get help from them. Now when I call them, they promise to call back and never do, or they promise to come take another look and don't show up. A terrible on-going problem. Apparently neither Lowe's nor 1800Heaters backs their products or their workmanship. read more

I had contacted Hone Depot regarding a new water heater. They contract this company out to do water heaters. The guy who came to install our water heater was ok but the service light was on after the install. He had to come back but didn't know how to remedy it. We were told to give it 24 hours for the four to go out. The next day the light went out BUT the alarm went off and it was blocking a code regarding a water leak. We also had water on the floor. So, we called back and was transferred around and spoken to like garbage by one of their employees who blamed us for the leak because we declined an expansion tank. We aren't plumbers and the install guy didn't make a big deal of it. Needless to say, a nice gentleman named Angel came out and installed the expansion tank. The service light was still on. He told us to give it a day or two. This was Saturday. On Monday, the alarm went off and the light was still on. We called and were told to give it a couple more days. On Wednesday, we called and was told they'd call us back. Two and a half hours later I called and was told a plumber was assigned. We'd hear from him soon. 45 minutes later I get a call from service and was told the owner said to give it a couple of more days. I explained that our house is for sale and this won't pass the permit inspection and will interfere with selling our house. We've been giving it time since the expansion tank was installed on Saturday. This gentleman said he would contact the owner again and try to downgrade the unit to a simpler grade water heater since I told him this unit is just not working for our needs and we contacted Rheem and they said we can return the water heater because we have a 30 day return on it. It is now the end of the day and we have not heard a thing. I would prefer at this point to speak to the owner first hand instead of these third party phone calls. read more

1800 Heaters installed a hot water heater that we bought at Lowes. It came dented. He got us a discount (he didn't want to take the heater back). Then plumber created a leak in our manifold while installing the water heater. He said he didn't have the right tool to fix it, so he tried to fix it with a hose clamp. When our plumber came to fix it, he need to install a new manifold as our was damaged by the 1800 heater's plumber. They would not admit there mistake. After 2 months of trying to get reimbursement, they denied our claim even with pictures and a letter from the plumber. So thankful that Lowes stood behind their product and we got our reimbursement. (Oh, yeah, I also forgot that when the heater wasn't installed to meet code--the relief valve wasn't properly vented-- so we had to have our plumber fix that too. 1800 heaters wouldn't fix that either) read more

Had this company (1800 - Heaters ) sent over from Home Depot as the third-party installers. They sent 2 young men, no one with a license to my understanding. They installed my new one and removed the old one. They did NOT replace the TP valve, instead used my old one which was clogged and 3 weeks later started leaking. The main reason the original water heater started leaking)Rheem was nice enough to replace the TP and told me they were expected to add a new one and were disappointed they didn't. (I guessed that they installed it in their pocket instead) Rheem offered to send me a new one or I could just buy one and have it reimbursed. So I did just that and replaced it myself. 2 weeks after the PEX above started leaking from moving it around and I had to buy a crimper and fix it myself. Now the cold water inlet pipe shows it's been leaking from the back for well over 5 years. I thought it was just a copper pipe reaction to cold. What do I know, ThatS why I called the pros right? Instead, I got a crappy service, and when calling them back "after a few years of course", they try to offer a service costing more money and I was doubtful so they hang up because I was trying to see if they would correct the wrong they did. I don't recommend them at all unless you can fix all the wrong work done yourself. I'm not impressed and would not recommend them. All they did correctly was pull a permit. The two techs that installed my new water heater, couldn't have had more knowledgeable in their job. They were completely professional, and ready for this, they both had A+ Customer Service! Something in this post pandemic world that doesn't exist. Sergio and Orlando went above and beyond, in answering my questions, explaining the do's and don'ts with water heaters, did an excellent job with the clean up and explaining the paperwork. 1800heaters needs to not lose employers like these two, its extremely hard to find good employees that love what they do and they do it extremely well!! The water heater installation was a total bust. Even though I put down that the old heater was a different size prior to contracting, they charged me $150 more for the different pipe lengths. They never checked to see if my circuit breaker was big enough, and the heater did not work after installation. The estimate included removal of the old water heater, but that was never done, and they did not reduce the contract price for work not done. The installation tech said he did not do electrical work. I was charged $1,643 for a $549 water heater in what was essentially delivering the water heater. I wound up installing a higher capacity breaker and heavier duty wire to get the heater working. Awful experience. My water heater broke on Saturday. I called several plumbers for estimates and this company came in at about $600 less than the others, so I went with them. Tons of miscommunication. They came with wrong size tank (which seems to happen often) and then when the new tank arrived, it was dented and scratched right out of the box. Even the installer told me they get a lot of complaints from customers. The installer is not a licensed plumber. They damaged the existing drip pan and the surrounding wall. No apology or even an acknowledgement. I got them through Home Depot. I've spent the last three days trying to get them to resolve the issues. There's so much more to this, but I'll end it here. Awful... The 1800Heaters technician opened outside water facet via indoor shut-off valve. They had no idea what the valve was for and that led to 7-8 hours of gushing water from our home which went unnoticed until i arrived home late after work; My basement was flooded. They refused to accept responsibility for the mistake. My frustration was met with rudeness and evasion. Mgmt claimed to have before and after pictures of the job but when pressed & they realized the pictures would prove their plumber (i'm not sure their techs are actually plumbers - that remains unclear) opened the valve, they refused to produce the pictures. Interesting - no? Their technicians / plumbers are shoddy at best... Frankly, I would have preferred to hire an orangutang with some grade school education level (3-4th grade would be acceptable) ... I hope this helps somebody avoid the frustration we encountered from having a water heater installed by this company. If I could give 0 stars, I would. Definitely do not recommend this company. Find a licensed plumber (who's whole gimmick isn't just HEATERS...) to install your water heater instead. Admittedly, we are a couple of first time homeowners who got screwed over by this company for being inexperienced and naive. Here's a couple things to consider when making your decsion based on our experience. 1. First of all, they are NOT associated with Rheem as vetted/trusted contractors. When ours broke less than 30 days after install, Rheem told us that 1-800 Heaters in Edison was not one of their partnered contractors. However, there is a 1-800 Heaters based in Union that IS a partnered contractor. So because of that, when we inquired about a heater exchange through warranty, they sent us one of their partnered contractors to try to fix it and then validate if it was truly broken. 2. We weren't aware they would just purchase a heater through home depot and then over charge us for it. It would have made more sense if we ourselves, purchased the heater from Home Depot and hired them for install. (however, I wouldn't even recommend that based on the faulty install). 3. FAULTY INSTALL! The electrical connection literally MELTED because the caps were not installed correctly and a loose connection can cause them to overheat and melt. I had an electrician come and inspect our wires and they confirmed it has nothing to do with our electrical but most likely, everything to do with the way it was installed. 4. The Rheem partnered (licensed) plumber that we had come and do the return and install of the new heater mentioned that the pipes look like they were done by someone without a license. Similar to what they do on the "streets". Now, I'm no expert in pipes so I have no clue if this guy was pulling my leg or not, so take that for what it is. 5. When you go to return these heaters to Home Depot, they give you the LEAST amount of store credit possible because of depreciation. We had this heater installed for less than a month before it broke BUT, the heater itself could have been purchased from Home Depot MONTHS ago and stored in a warehouse or in someones truck (who knows!). It could have gone through the ringer before being installed and we were the unlucky suckers who practically OVERPAID for it and got it. 6. The icing on the cake is that once they found out we were talking to Rheem and considering using their plumber, they tried to convince to do otherwise by saying there might be unexpected costs, etc. The only reason I see there being unexpected costs is because of what we were starting with. A faulty install. And I'd be damned if I called this hokey company back to fix what they messed up. Overall, I had to go with the plumber to home depot to return the broken heater. Home Depot doesn't sell the model I needed in store so we puchased a shorter version of it. I had to pay $50 for the new one because we didn't get a 100% refund. Rheem said we could submit a reimbursement form to them to get the money back (the $50) if we wanted to. I had to have an electrician come out to verify the electrical of our home is fine and not the cause. I also paid them to correctly wire to the new heater. And now I need to pay the plumber come back and increase the length of the pipes. Alternately, I can return this one again and order the right one online but I am so fed up at this point that I'm choosing the path of least resistance. TLDR; Faulty install and scammer-like practices. Do not recommend. Buy a heater from Home Depot or Lowes yourself (SAVE THE RECEIPT) and have a licensed plumber install it OR get a licensed plumber to install a better brand (Bedford White or professional/contractor grade versions of AO Smith or Rheem). read more

He explained each cost, how long it would take to install, and why another person, Charlie, would handle the electric part of the job. On Wednesday, Rich and Charlie arrived and installed my hot water tank under 4 hours. Charged me $45.00 to send a letter (said postage cost), did not give me a receipt, and refused to return fraudulent monies. Charged me for expansion unit ($237.00) which did not use. Left me with a gas leak for 2 weeks! All because not one but TWO installers were yanking on my vintage 1993 copper gas line insisting that this must be propane, not natural gas. First they made ME shut my house water off. I thought you were the plumbers? Luckily some PB Blaster loosened it up so that I could close the valve that probably hadn't been touched in 2 decades. First installer insisted several times that I must have propane not natural gas, because I had hard 1/2" copper tube painted yellow going ot my furnace and a T junction branching off the furnace gas line to my water heater from above. He couldn't figure out how to deal with my HVAC humidifier 1/4" copper line that branched off my water heater cold inlet pipe so we waited for help from another guy with more parts. Fine, take the time and do it right, no problem there. But then the second guy ALSO yanked on the copper pipe insisting that it must be propane and not natural gas. I showed him the pipe coming in from the street and the lack of propane tanks on the property and he finally relented. Finished the install. Hot water after the tank heated up in an hour. All is well. I come home from work the next day and a STRONG smell of gas hits me in the face. I call 1800heaters but it's after hours. I get a call back the next day, after we slept with the windows open and fans airing the house out. I told them the smell subsided. Over the next few days the smell was fainter and it came and went. Weird. Then a few days later I bought an electronic tester and it went off the charts when I put the sensor at the copper tube at the T junction above the water heater, right where they were yanking on it during the install. Called 1800heaters after hours. Someone actually picks up, great. Okay someone will be out there tomorrow morning. Great. He came and re-tightened the 3 flange nuts of the T. Didn't help. "Sorry I'm not a plumber, good luck". So I called a real plumber and he was able to redo the flange joint and my tester is quiet and no more gas smell. read more

I got my water heater replacement through PSEG, (surprisingly the old one lasted 30 years) and they sent Ruben Ortiz from 1800 Heaters the next day, this dude is one of the most knowledgeable and chill technicians I've ever met. He's great and meticulous with what he does and definitely got the job done right. The setup looks great, and he was able to meet my requests and answered any questions I had. I am happy with the service and the knowledge he shared. I cannot vouch for the team but if they're anything like this guy, then please keep up the great work. read more

Home Depot should be ashamed of themselves, this company is not only incompetent, they tried to talk me out of the water heater I purchased and wanted installed, the lead person who showed up then proceeded to put the blame on me because there were some difficulties with installation. These issues could have been taken care of if they actually had tools and installation materials. These people have no business installing water heaters. I think they just look for the easy straight swap jobs which require no thinking, all the rest just get dropped. I purchased my electric water heater from the Home Depot but I was concerned that they'd send over some ham handed plumber that couldn't solder a decent pipe joint. Home Depot doesn't actually do the installation but they use sub-contractors to install the water heaters. They sent over a plumber from 1800heaters which is located in Edison, NJ and I was worried he'd screw something up as he was a young man in his early 30's. This guy did a terrific job and didn't leave a speck of dirt when he was done. I forgot his name but he was an Army Vet and was truly concerned about doing a good job and he did. In fact he was a better plumber than men twice his age with perhaps more experience but he had the desire to get it right. Every plumber should be as good as this man. I'd use him again in a second. They installed a water heater in my home. I was upgrading from a 40 gal. to a 50 gal. tank and they didn't increase the flue size from a 3 in. to a 4 in. Because of that it failed inspection. I called them a few times to fix it, and twice the person I spoke to said I would receive a call back to schedule the fix. I never got a call. The last few times I tried to call I couldn't even get a person on the phone. Instead I'm getting it fixed by a more trustworthy plumber who is knowledgeable of local codes. read more
