Patio dining area

18 Folds is an Asian Fusion restaurant located in its own building outside on the north side of the Anaheim Packing District. One of the draws of eating here are the colorful lit lanterns in the evening. However, we ended dining here in the late afternoon while it was still light out. The inside of the restaurant was pretty much empty and it was a nice day, so we dined out on the patio. Even in the daytime, the colorful lanterns are cool to look at and there is a park area right next to the restaurant. The patio is wide open and completely in the shade. This was a late lunch/early dinner for us, so we just ordered a few different items off the menu to share. Their small sushi menu only has four different rolls and they were out of two of them, so we just had a California roll which was fine. The only sushi protein available is shrimp or krab so I definitely wouldn't recommend them for sushi. We also had an order of the chicken egg rolls. They had a good crisp on them, and the serving size was generous and very filling. The sweet chili dipping sauce had a good mix of sweetness with a little heat. They tasted fine, but it seemed like they were pre-made and lacked a little freshness. Finally, we tried an order of the spicy shrimp wontons off the dim sum menu. It comes with ten wontons, and the shrimp were good but the wontons were a little mushy. They had a nice heat that slowly creeps up on you after a few seconds. Service started out ok as we were able to place our order within ten minutes, but it then got progressively slower. I think there were only two other occupied tables and our three items took almost 25 minutes to come out. After the food arrived, we didn't see a server again for quite a while. Final rating 3.6 stars. These are the times I wish Yelp let you use half points because this experience was right in between 3 and 4 stars. I guess I'll round up to four stars for the relaxing patio and ambiance which is probably even better after dark.

We were exploring the Anaheim packing district, and we were getting indecisive about eating but my girlfriend wanted to try this place right next to it! I was a little skeptical at first but once we got our food I changed my mind! Service is really nice and friendly, and the place itself is pretty nice and very outdoorsy. It's very pleasant. We had their Hot Honey Fried Chicken Baos and their shu mai! Both were really good! I think for the chicken and baos some people usually eat it together by wrapping the bao around the chicken, but personally I like them actually kind of separate! Just a personal preference! But it was very appetizing! Solid spot for a date or just a casual hangout!

mango mule & piña colada boba cocktails

I have been coming to 18 Folds for 4 years, and it used to be consistently good with a dynamic menu of cool fusion dim sum and entrées. I would bring friends for a nice meal with cute ambience and boba cocktails. However, on my most recent visit on Friday night, I noticed the quality was significantly worse than before. The menu had changed significantly, and the only thing that seemed to have remained the same was the boba cocktails, which still tasted fine. The rest of what we ordered (pork soup dumplings, pork & chive Sichuan style dumplings, garlic string beans, and chili garlic wings) was really disappointing. The pork xlb lacked flavour, as if an ingredient were omitted in preparation. Even Trader Joe's frozen pork xlb when reheated have more flavour. The pork and chive Sichuan style dumplings were not spicy at all, and the filling was so bland as if no salt or any other spices were added. The garlic string beans were saturated in garlic chunks, and I had to wipe off most of them. What remained were limp green beans. They would've been more palatable if the amount of garlic were reduced and the dish weren't over-reliant on the garlic chunks. Finally, the chili garlic wings were terrible. The wings were the worst item we ordered. The breading was too thick, not very crispy, and had zero Asian flavour. Even KFC wings, which I haven't had since I was a kid, couldn't be this bad. It's unfortunate 18 Folds has changed so much for the worse over the years in terms of menu items and quality of food. Really hope it reverts to its original menu and higher food standards eventually, but as of now, I will no longer recommend it.

The service was great. The staff was knowledgeable a d helpful. The soup was a little bit less than I expected in flavor but it was still good. I loved the tofu and mushrooms in it. The sticky ribs were deliciously crispy. Instead of the sauce, I asked for their spicy Carolina Reaper oil. Perfection!! It is a beautiful relaxing little spot in the very busy area!

18 Fold sits just outside of the Anaheim Packing District. The food was good. We had pork soup dumplings that were amazing. The spicy pork wontons, were really good but the pork was in the sauce and not inside the wonton. Super tasty if you like chives. The most interesting thing we ordered was the pork fired rice. We expected pork fried rice with chunks of pork, rice and veggies. This was seasoned rice with garlic and butter with a pork bone with meat. It was so, so good. I highly recommend it. The patio is super cute and airy. They have these great lamps hanging with multicolor and it is so inviting and perfect for photos.

We came to 18 Folds on a Tuesday night for dinner. Before arriving, we looked up when the next reservation time would be available and there wasn't one until 8 PM. With this in mind, we thought we'd have to wait for a table, but when we got there, we found the restaurant was nearly empty. The host greeted us when we arrived and since we had no reservation, he shared with us that we would have to either sit at a table outside or at one specific table inside since the other ones were reserved. We opted to eat outside since it was a beautiful day and he brought us menus for us to look at. once we were seated, a gal brought us some waters, and then we were left alone for quite a bit of time. We thought they had forgotten about us since we were at the farthest table outside from the entrance, but after about 10 minutes, our waitress came to take our order. We opted to try their green beans, spicy shrimp, wontons, garlic noodles, and their hot honey chicken baos. The green beans arrived rather quickly, and so did the spicy shrimp wontons. Both were really good question! Then we have the garlic noodles which my one year-old daughter devoured! Last and certainly not least, the hot honey chicken baos arrived, and this was the star of the show. The chicken was fried and so juicy and crunchy. I highly recommend you try their hot honey chicken baos the next time you go! We did think it was rather strange that they had so many "reserved" tables for reservations when we only saw two couples arrive and three couples leave during our entire meal (which ended around 7:30). Nevertheless, we had a fantastic meal at 18 Folds.

The ambience was great with all the windows and lanterns and they have heat lamps for outdoor seating. Front of house was friendly but their kitchen was slow so come prepared to wait. However, the food that came out was delicious. The hot and sour soup was packed with so much flavor and ingredients. The spicy wonton was my favorite and had the right amount of heat. Garlic noodle was so-so but large portions. The sausage fried rice was cooked well with the wok hei flavor. The chicken bao platter was also a hit and came with a half chicken so plenty of food. They also have a little shop area with toys and snacks that can be purchased. Overall it was good just wished the food came out in a more timely manner.

Visited on a weekend around 6 PM. The space wasn't crowded, which was a plus. We started with drinks -- a mango mule and a beer. While both were enjoyable, they weren't a great value. The mule in particular was a bit weak and didn't quite deliver the punch you'd expect from a cocktail. For food, we ordered a variety of dishes. The garlic green beans were one of the highlights -- cooked well, very flavorful, and loaded with garlic in a way that worked. The spicy shrimp wontons were also solid, with a nice balance of heat and flavor. Unfortunately, the shu mai was underwhelming -- bland and lacking depth. We also tried the hot honey chicken bao dish, which came with steamed bao buns, crispy hot honey chicken, house pickles, and dipping sauces. A little assembly was required, but the components worked well together. The portion was generous, so it's best shared with at least three people. Flavor-wise, it was very good, though again, a bit pricey for only two people. Service was good. We were advised of preparation times (hot honey chicken takes a bit longer) for the dishes that we ordered but the dishes were brought out as completed in a reasonable amount of time. While there were some bright spots, we left feeling a bit disappointed. Might give it another try in the future, but not right away.

Steamer Party Platter - each dumplings or dishes had ~ 4 pieces each. Super juicy and flavorful dumplings! It fed 3 females and we had left overs. Love love loved the garlic green beans, tasted similarly to din tai fung's but had more minced garlic added (which i LOVED) Anaheim packing parking, neighborhood parking, valet

We love the spicy shrimp wontons! Can't recommend enough. They have a decent sized menu with cariousnitems including chicken and pork offerings, soups, dumplings, and appetizers.

The restaurant itself is so pretty, and that's about everything nice I have to say about this place. I actually really like the decorations. The lanterns are so pretty. I would love to use them as a backdrop for a photoshoot. I actually liked the shu mai, but I thought $15 for 8 was a bit criminal. Then the Chinese sausage fried rice came out, and I almost cried. The visual impact was jarring. Chinese sausage is supposed to be a dark red and a little oily. These sausages were burnt black to a crisp, shriveled, and were hard and dry. It was quite heartbreaking actually because they've been my favorite since childhood. The fried rice was bland as well. The service was slow and inattentive throughout the night as well. We were never checked up on. It took ages to put our order in. And I feel like the servers were avoiding eye contact with us, so it was so difficult to get their attention for things.

You guys/girls/people.... The spicy shrimp dim sum was quite possibly the best dum sum I've ever had! The broth is even better. It's kind of a big deal. Came for the world food tour and can't wait to come back to try the regular menu. Everyone working was so nice despite the large crowd. The restaurant is super cute inside which usually means the food won't be great but I don't think that's the case here. I've passed by so many times coming to the packing house and should have come sooner.

Ask the Community - 18 Folds

Are they dog friendly?

I think yes if you don't mind sitting at the patio area.

Do they take reservations?

They have a website for reservations.

Are there any gluten free items on the menu or items that can be made gluten free?

I think the chicken is dusted with rice flour or something because my gluten intolerant friend was able to eat the fried chicken and rice with no stomach issues! But double check with the kitchen

Do you have outdoor seating?

Yes they do. There were several tables on their "patio" area that fit 2-4 people. One table looked like it fit a group of 6 people outside.

Are there any vegan friendly options?

Garlic Green Beans and Vegetarian Dumplings

Are there any dishes where peanut oil is used?

Why did you get rid of the Sticky Rice? 18 Folds did it do good, super bummed on my last visit.

Do they always have bobamosa on their menu?

Yes, they have two mango beer infused with guava and citrus. And the other is champagne with a layer of mango or strawberry popping boba

Is this place vegetarian friendly... it didn't look very from the online menu? I do not eat seafood!

Unless you want sticky rice and cucumbers I would say its not vegetarian friendly. You must also realize even if you order plan noodles the soup is more then likely to be meat based.

What're your most recommended dishes?

the 18 folds noodles are amazing!!!

Are you open Memorial Day?

Hello! Yes we are!

Are the spare ribs pork or beef? I think of spare ribs as beef but double checking

Pork

This helped us get a table much faster than we would have than if we had just shown up and waited. We ordered the large family meal, and there were 12 of us. We also ordered the Newport Lobster, fish fillet with black bean sauce, and an extra shrimp fried rice. Overall, I think the food was good, and the prices are reasonable (except the lobster, which was pricey, as you might expect from anything listed as "market price"). Most of us in the group thought the fish fillet with black bean sauce was the best. I thought it was very good, but not necessarily fantastic. (There are other Chinese restaurants that do it a little better.) The sauce was very good, but the fish wasn't quite as tender as it can be. Definitely a solid 4 stars. Other dishes were good. I think the scallop soup could have been great for some people, but my wife and I both hate cilantro, and there was a ton of cilantro. The pork was also good, and my friends thought the clams were also really good. I found the fried rice a bit bland. And for both the lobster and the crab, they could have made them a little easier to eat by cracking the shells a bit more for us. I hate fighting with my food ... And there was a fair amount of fighting on these 2 dishes. The lobster cost almost much as all the other dishes combined. It certainly looked amazing. And the sauce was very good. But I found most of it a bit overcooked. Maybe it was our fault for asking for a big one. Maybe a smaller lobster might have been cooked a little less. The great sauce (along with the fighting with the shell) might have covered up the fact that the meat was actually a bit tough and rubbery. I don't think I'd order this again. The service was very friendly and pretty fast. And, again, other than the lobster, the pieces were pretty reasonable.

Our family joked around and would say let's go to the travel agency restaurant when we had a craving for Chinese/Vietnamese type of food. I recall the food back then was extra tasty and memorable, leaving me wanting to return again and again. However, my recent lunch outing with my girlfriends changed my mind. Our servers were attentive and friendly. I think it helped that my friend was a familiar customer. We came on a Monday afternoon around 11:30 and It was early enough where parking was still available. We ordered the classic dishes, including salt and pepper fried pork chopsand salt and pepper fried shrimp, but the taste this time around left a lot to be desired. These two dishes lacked the crunchiness and flavors that these fried entrees are supposed to showcase. We found the pork chops to be dry and tough, as if it was prepared a while ago and sitting out for some time before it made its way to our table. The shrimp was not impressive either. At least the shaking beef or bo luc lac was good. The beef chunks were tender, and the flavors were on point. Bonus points for the broth that is complimentary during lunch. Also the complimentary orange slices were a nice touch to end our meal. We'd still return for the lobster and noodle when the occasion comes up.

Whenever I'm in Garden Grove, Korean and Vietnamese cuisine will always take precedence. However,…read moremy most recent trip pivoted from the norm, and Noodle Star became the destination. The end result? Reasonable prices, warm service, and very tasty food. Like so many Chinese restaurants, the name and theme is inherently confusing. Up until last year, the place was Harbor Garden and it's rebranded to Noodle Star ever since. The Chinese name ("川粵" aka "Chuan Yue") would imply there is a Sichuan + Cantonese component to the offerings, despite the words "teppanyaki" and handmade noodles (手工麵) noted on the exterior as well as on signs on the interior. Typically any restaurant that dabbles in multiple regional Chinese variations (Sichuan, Cantonese, Shanghainese, Lanzhou, etc.) is a huge flight risk. Surprisingly, it all worked out. All of my orders were from different regions of the country, starting with a Cantonese beef chow fun (乾炒牛河) that was delightfully smokey from the wok hei (#1) and the noodles and beef were silky and smooth. While the noodles aren't as wide as I would have liked, they were still 100% workable in the dish. The Taiwanese style popcorn chicken (鹽酥雞) was wonderfully fried and the chicken was still juicy on the inside. Their napa cabbage + shrimp + pork steamed dumplings (白菜豬肉蝦水餃) were pillowy soft and steamed perfectly. They were plump and not too doughy; which is very appropo for a northern Chinese dish. The biggest surprise may have come from the soup dumplings (小籠包), which had just the right amount of soup and a very delicate dumpling skin that was downright excellent. The service was kind, attentive, and very bilingual with Mandarin and English. Prices might feel high to non-Cali folks, but the spectrum is very much on the Socal average. (#2).
