Restobar - Pretty belowbar. This was our first meal here in Florence while on a spring break vacation. We sure hope the experiences improve. 1285 is a relatively cute and lively restaurant in the heart of Old Town Florence. Service is pretty solid. And the staff were very friendly. Now the less favorable...As our family of four stopped in, we were seated in a back, uninsulated enclosed porch. It was cold and stark. While the menu is diverse and interesting, the food just didn't hold up. We shared an appetizer (caprese salad), which was actually the high point. For our entrees, we had a pizza, a calzone, seafood pasta, and manicotti. We were all quite disappointed. First, the base marina is super-sweet. The pasta was overcooked. And the manicotti was a soup. We skipped dessert (too cold to stay, tired of being in our coats). Add two Limonatas and a soda, and the bill came to $110. it doesn't help that they have extra charges (though not hidden). None of us were happy. My advice..Bar 1285 from your options in Florence. My family and I were very unpleased with the service here. We arrived at 7:40 and the hostess said there was a table finishing up and then she would clean it and sit us. We started looking at menus while we were waiting and realized they close at 8. I told the waitress we didn't know they were going to close soon and we could go somewhere else, but she insisted we stay and that it was no problem. Then as we were still waiting for the table, we heard one of the cooks yelling across the restaurant saying "are they gonna order or just stare at the menu all night." Extremely unprofessional as customers could all hear and we were obviously waiting for someone to sit us/take our order. When the table was ready, a waitress came up to us and said "we can sit you but the kitchen closes in 5 minutes. Also we are out of chicken, lasagna, meatballs, and clam chowder." She was very rude and it was clear she was trying to get us to leave. After we sat at our table, our waiter came up and the first thing he said was "I heard you guys are ready to order and you know what we are out of." Finally, as we got up to leave (mind you there were still other customers there), all of the staff was standing around audibly talking about us as we walked by. The entire experience was upsetting and frustrating. There was no reason for us to be disrespected and treated with such unprofessionalism. Do better. read more

We called earlier in the day to ask to make a reservation and were told none needed. There is plenty of room. When we got there we were sat in an odd side room, group of 5. We were there to celebrate my mom's birthday. After we were seated we're asked to get up and our table needed to be moved to make room for a group of 16. Our tables were pushed up against the front window and we were asked to sit on a row and one of us would be forced to sit with uneven table tops down the middle. It was cramped and awkward. When we asked if we could have another table because this is weird the manager responded with "No, this is fine. We need to make room for a table of 16." We felt like we were not important, and this other group of 16 clearly had priority. Our party left, there are too many good restaurants with nice service in this town to settle for this treatment. I went back alone to ask for the manager to complain. The manager was the woman who was forcing us to sit in a cramped awkward table setup. She apologized and said it was the owners family coming in. Well "owner", you just lost local customers. We do matter, you wouldn't have a business without customers. We will give our business to other establishments. read more

Great late lunch at the Restobar after dune buggy ride with friends. Everyone was happy with their meals including clam chowder, crab cakes, salads, anti pasta plate cheese, meats, olive spread an pesto sauce. A couple things where not as expected the antipasto plate came with only four small slices of bread, not enough to eat what was provided. The other being that the crab cakes Parmesan over shadowed the crab flavor and it was cooked longer than we liked. All in all the service was good and we were happy with our meals. read more

While the pizza was good the service was not. Unfortunately one particular young blond person was so rude at the check in that we will not return here. It was a real buzz kill, having read about how great this place was supposed to be. Points though for the server who stepped in to smooth the situation and make things better. She saw how rude the first person was and tried to make things better. It's a hot place so ambiance is touristy and chaotic. Often times a wait to be seated. And make sure they know you're in line. They seated their friends before us even though we were there before the workers' friends were. read more

I can honestly say this was probably the worst place I've had in Florence. The food was bland and didn't really have much flavor. I had the Baked Lasagna and my friend had the Manicotti Florentine both nothing special and couldn't tell the difference when they came out. They had a inch of cheese on the top and barely any noodles for both dishes. I'm not going to say any bad for the service sense they were short staff. Great lunch spot- show up close to 12 or you may need to wait. The dressing on the salads, mango and ranch, tasted homemade, both delicious. The rosemary bread over powered the crab melt. The Italian salad was good but maybe more lettuce and less processed meat would work better. Service was prompt. read more

These are the days when getting a table in a restaurant can feel impossible. We were seated quickly, the rest of the ordering, food delivering, etc... took longer. Which is fine. The town was hopping, most restaurants had a long wait and you just need to be more forgiving and thoughtful when dining out these days. My husband had a hazy pale ale and pizza that he was happy with. The pizza is cheese heavy and crust light which is just the way he likes pizza-so a win. I had the ahi salad and it was good. I made the mistake of pouring the balsamic dressing on the salad and I think it was meant for the bread. The result was too much dressing and completely my fault. I did decide to have the pistachio cocktail as dessert and it was perfect for that. I'm going to guess it has Baileys and amaretto, and I don't know what else, but it was tasty and different. read more

First of all, the staff here are amazing! It was packed when we arrived with a large gathering of people outside waiting for tables. The hostess was smiling, friendly and very organized in getting people seated as quickly as possible. Our waitress was even friendlier and very funny! She had tables inside and outside but was calm and personable to everyone. We had a table by the window which provided great people watching for entertainment! On to the delicious food...we started with the scallop appetizer. This was fantastic! The sauce the scallops are cooked in was so fantastic my husband was eating it with a spoon after the scallops were gone. For dinner he had the NY steak with grilled mushrooms and onions. The steak was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. I had the seafood pasta which was to die for! Rich, creamy, bold flavors. I also had a house side salad which was delicious as well. This is definitely one of our favorite spots in Florence and we'll always come back when we're in town! read more

OMG the food is soooo good! You can smell the blessings to come from the street. The Clam Chowder: the best I ever had, and I am a snob when it comes to seafood. Mussels in an Italian sausage sauce? Gimme some more! I tell ya...they should bottle and sell that sauce. Wow! I requested extra bread to finish it. The CLAM CHOWDER, have I mentioned the clam chowder? I don't think I could even look at one of those red/white cans by *Kambullz* after that. BEST Ever! What else did I have? Oh yes, Hawaiian Luau Pizza. Not Soggu. Very tasty. You know how some pizza with pineapple comes out like a damp sponge? Not this one. ALOHA!! The Tieton cider on tap was delicious, excellent choice! Paired well with all the above. Come for the food! Please realize they charge additional fees if you use a credit card to pay. We missed the sign out front and our server didn't mention this until after our credit card was run. If your bill is over $20, they charge you a $2 fee. The $2 doesn't scale, it's a flat rate. We figured out the $2 was about a 5% add on to our bill. As tip expectations in the industry increase to a minimum of 20%, it's exhausting to realize you've just been up charged 5% as well for a credit card. We had the cash to pay, but it was too late. The service here was excellent and our food was very good. I just wish they would bundle in the cost of their credit card fees to the price of the food and drink. Hitting customers with yet another fee means we wouldn't go back to this restaurant. read more

This place has the best crab cakes in town, as well as an excellent chowder and Bloody Mary. Our server, Emily, was great. I also tried Waterfront Depot (meh), and Mo's (touristy bubba gump like) and this place was the best of them. read more

As a sous chef I was really impressed how their presentation looked on plating and how well the food had so much flavor and was cooked perfectly. I recommend this place for sure. Heard of this place through a friend and we decided to make a stop on Saturday evening around 630! We're worried about wait time but we only had to wait a couple minutes for a spot. Quaint little busy restaurant. So many options for food, & bar drinks. Seafood, burgers, pizza, pasta, sandwiches, salads, dessert, and more! We were all surprised with the amount of options and were excited to make our pick. We ordered 2 appetizers- garlic cheese bread, and crab cakes. The bread was hot and delicious. Generous amount for 4 people to share. 2 large crab cakes- were good with the aioli & lemon, but a little caked / batter and not as much crab as I had expected. We all ordered different entrees. Pastas, salmon, halibut, etc. some of our food sat in window for a few mins and unfortunately one of us had cold food. The other 3 had warm / hot food. That was the only downside! Was a very busy and hopping spot. Delicious and definitely a popular spot! The 2 dishes with Alfredo sauce I have to say lacked in flavor. It was very bland. Tasted like it was mass produced and less likely made to order. definitely lacked the creamy flavorful alfredo sauce I find usually. I love this comfortable friendly and very tasty pizza place. Nice people too. Super busy but customers and crew alike all seem to be enjoying themselves. They also do a good take out business. We did just that for dinner one night. We brought our terrific Marguerite pizza back to our hotel room on the river. Unapologetic server refused to seat our family and referred to this as "the law". We had to sit at 2 different tables in 2 different sections (no joining of adjacent tables) with 2 different servers. I am baffled as I never encountered a restaurant which refuses accommodate tables of more than 5 diners. We have lived in Florence for 24 years and I will now make it my mission to spread the news that Restobar refuses to serve more than 5 people at a time. Must mention server was entitled, rude, and probably reflects the attitude of management. Don't go there if you want to enjoy a meal as a happy group or a family of more than 5. They refused to let us in with our service dog that was secured in a wheeled kennel and had service dog id. Then tried to put us on the patio but it was 31 degrees with snow on the ground. We looked at it but it was freezing out there even with a heater going. It was a quiet Monday night about 5pm and there were only a few tables occupied. We were there with a very large group for a birthday dinner but refused service as they do not allow service animals. I was told by 3 employees that because they have an open kitchen they did not have to permit service animals so we left and promised never to return. Our family of 4 found ourselves in downtown Florence around dinner time unexpectedly and were struggling to find a place that was not packed. We tried one restaurant that had a one hour wait and with 2 hungry kids, that wasn't going to work. We popped in and despite them seeming busy, we were seated right away - huge win! The host talked with and entertained our 3 yo, which is always nice to see. We ordered the clams & cheesy garlic bread as apps. The clams were fine and the bread was excellent. The menu wasn't very kid friendly, but that's also not exactly their target demographic so it's understandable. There was plenty I wanted to order but because of this, I ended up splitting a Hawaiian pizza with said 3 yo. The things we do for kids, amirite? I found the pizza to be about the same as every other Hawaiian pizza but I don't fault them for that; there's not much you can do to a Hawaiian pizza. My wife & 7 yo got clam chowder and salad. The clam chowder was chunkier than my wife liked but that's a matter of preference. The actual flavor was fine. We'd probably go back but only if it were just the adults this time. read more

Meat lovers pizza (medium) plus Cesar salads were more then enough to feed two of us. Lots of people made it hard to get Prompt service. We were in no rush. Lots of apologies and thank you "for being patient with us". They knew they were under staffed, sucks but no harm in our eyes. Regardless, the pizza was flavorful, it's hard to mess up a pizza but it's hard to make a pizza standout. The meat lovers is on point, cheese cheese cheese!
