The rain stopped just in time for alfresco dining, so what did we do? We got a table on 128 Pecan's front porch. What a lovely evening it was. 128 Pecan is a friendly, cute place located across from the bike rental and a Presbyterian church. The menu is small but satisfying. He got the salmon atop gouda grits with Carolina chow chow while I ordered the cracker crusted trout with succotash. The trout was pretty tasty, and I thought the crust was well done. My personal favorite, though, was the succotash because of its harmonious flavors. His salmon was tender and cooked just right, though I thought it needed a little more salt. He surmised that eating it with Carolina chow and the grits, all in one bite, was the way to go, and how it was meant to be enjoyed, making it logical for the fish to be under-seasoned. Perhaps...Maybe I'm just used to having my salmon with some glaze, crust, or saucier sauce. Overall, we liked the food and the personable staff, and we'd recommend this place to Abingdon visitors and locals alike for good American cooking. read more

Perfect portions, perfect service, perfect date place but still casual enough to be relaxed. Josh was our server, and he made sure to mention his name every time, just to make sure we knew it if we needed something. He started with a large, ice cold water carafe and menus. He gave us just enough time to decide, and then had our order ready very promptly. The tomato bisque was hot, fresh, and tasted like a creamy tomato with oregano and Parmesan cheese... perfectly portioned! I followed with the Low Country pasta, which had just enough spices in the Andouille sausage to make your nose run, but a creamy sauce that cooled the spicy down immediately. The chicken in it was so tender, it fell apart when you touched it with a fork. My daughter gave me a bite of her crab cake, which was fantastic. Josh was prompt and unobtrusive with his service all the while. We sprang for dessert, too, which included peach cobbler and creme brûlée. The top of the creme brûlée was crisp and perfect. The cream melted in your mouth. My peach cobbler was flavorful without being too sweet. If you're looking for a nice, intimate but relaxed atmosphere with fantastic food, this is the place you want to go!! We will definitely be back! read more

Good place for lunch or dinner! Service is good and food comes out quickly. Started with calamari appetizer which was plentiful and seasoned nicely. Appetizer came out minutes before our entrees which was a bit of a disappointment, but we really enjoyed our meals. We were in Abingdon this past weekend and ate lunch and dinner at this gem of a restaurant! From the service staff to the food, they check every box that equate to a fabulous dining experience. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. We enjoyed our first rate food! Lunch was their hot and spicy chicken sandwich, not for the wimps (of which I am one!). It was perfectly cooked, and too hot for my taste, so the staff provided me with blue cheese dressing to cool it down some. My wife adored it, as she enjoys that temperature in food. Dinner was perfectly grilled lamb chops, mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach with garlic- divine! They make a delicious coconut cream pie and serve some fabulously rich coffee. After hearing so many good things really wanted to love this place. I had oyster tacos, oysters and sauce were great, flour tortillas were cold and tough. Get the uncooked ones and cook them. Takes 60 seconds. Had white wine and one of my biggest pet peeves is a wine glass without a stem . Just stopping on our way south and stumbled upon this place. I'm so glad we did! It's super good the portions are reasonable. I appreciate that since we can't take leftovers home. We got the Parmesan fried which were crazy good, I had the Cesar with blackened shrimp it was perfect. Lunch July 20 Small house turned into a restaurant - not a lot of room so get there early! Service staff is super nice & attentive. Most everything seems to be made in house & fresh. BUT nothing really "blew me away". Portions were on the smaller side too. Had a "Hot Chicken Sandwich" which was a grilled chicken breast (even though menu said it was fried) with hot sauce on top of it served with a tasty slaw on white toast. Guess I was expecting it to be fried chicken & on a ciabatta roll or sour dough - not white toast. Also tried the "Cuban Sandwich" - which was not on real Cuban Bread and had way too much mustard, but for folks not ever having eaten a proper Tampa Cuban, it would be good. Side tossed salad was place don plate with the sandwich (which I hate). Tried the 1,000 Island dressing which was house made (most weren't) The place was packed with locals and there was a long wait. I stopped in a town north of here on my road trip to eat, but the food options weren't good. I called 128 Pecan and ordered a hot chicken sandwich with side Caesar salad to go. It was ready by the time I got there 20 minutes later. They weren't very busy , probably because only roadtrippers go out to lunch at 2:30 on a Thursday. I went to eat in the park nearby, so I didn't interact with the staff much, but they seemed nice. Hot chicken sandwich was delicious. It had the best coleslaw I've ever had. The Caesar salad was a very generous portion and could have been a full meal for somebody less hungry than me. Next time I drive through western Virginia I'll be back. read more

If you are in Abingdon this place is a must visit. It's small, quaint and has some of the best food in the area. By far my favorite was the bread pudding desert but the food was delicious from beginning to end. The lamb meal is wonderful and the artichoke appetizer is a unique version of a spinach dip. We had Elva serve us and if you are lucky enough have her during your stay your experience will be all the better. Come to town for a play but swing by here first just go early it's popular and gets busy for dinner fast. read more

In town to visit family and found 128 Pecan to be delightful. Our server was thoughtful and provided great recommendations. We were a larger party and the place was hopping, but you'd have thought we were the only ones there. I had the Hummus to start, which was the perfect light app. Because I had the Shrimp and grits for the entree and it was a rich, spicy delicious trip. Of course we had to follow with dessert. Outstanding food, service and ambiance! My husband and I stopped here on our way home to DC from KY and enjoyed our experience from the time we arrived until we left. Jack (owner) greeted us from the bar and sat us w/in only a few minutes. The restaurant is eclectic, friendly and inviting...would take a day to read all the various personal gratitude anecdotes and fun kitsch posted on the ceiling and walls. Sam was our server and he was superb...attentive, but not overly so. Highly recommend the calamari as well as the wild mushroom and goat cheese crostini to start. Tomato bisque was also yummy, but nothing compared to the fried oyster tacos and the fried egg sandwich! To top all of this off, Jack paid our bill and thanked us for our service (credit card said "ask for military ID"). What a class act from beginning to end. We stopped here, for lunch, after riding the Creeper trail. Food was absolutely Great! The sesame fried oyster taco's were cooked perfectly, with a nice crunchy sesame flavor. They used sweet chili sauce to add a little background heat, and flavor. As my side I chose salad that was beautiful mixed greens with light dressing. We tried this restaurant for lunch. It is a cute place tucked on a side street. The staff was very friendly. I ordered a Patron margarita, but they don't carry Patron so I told them to make it with what they had. I ordered a side salad which was very fresh and delicious and the dressing had a nice tang. For the main I ordered the blackened chicken quesadilla which was good, but the chicken had very little blackening spice and was not actually blackened. It would have been a winner if they just committed to the spice. My husband had the Cuban sandwich. When he opened the sandwich there was just a ridiculously small amount of pork down the very center of the sandwich, there was no way it would begin to cover the bottom of the roll. There was a couple of thin sandwich sliced pieces of ham. The saving grace of the sandwich was it was served with a cup of mojo sauce, like a French dip. My husband loved that so much we took the remaining portion and used it on chicken. The Parmesan fries were excellent. The food wasn't bad and would have been really good or great with a little bit of tweaking. We will give it another shot just to be sure. read more

Came here tonight for date night, we ordered the Parmesan fries, Caesar salad, and two black bean patties. The food was fresh and wonderful and the service was lovely and attentive. Thanks to yelp, stopped by this place on my way down I81. Only 1/2 mile off the exit. Great little place in the historic area of Abington. Eclectic place with great food. Carnitas quesadilla was great and loved tomato bisque that was both creamy and tangy. Service was good and they were surprisingly quick. Visiting our doctor son and family we always enjoy eating at Pecans. This was our third or fourth time there and never have we gotten anything that we would not order again.
