The service was terrific, I will say that, the staff was helpful, informative, and friendly. My wife and I both started with Caesar salads, these were excellent, make no mistake on that! Wife had the chicken with grilled artichokes. She said that she felt like it was ok, but the chicken was dry. I had salmon and cheesy grits, but swapped out fried oysters for the salmon. The oysters were terrific, no complaint there. The cheesy grits were strictly mediocre. They congealed into a salad mass very quickly, and the overall dish was in need of a sauce. There was chow-chow, but it tasted store bought, very sweet. We had purchased to go, so that may have impacted some of these things.... maybe. The overall cost was I thought a bit much, I would have been happier if it were about 10% less. It wasn't bad, but wasn't as good as I had hoped either. We were in town for the night amd gave this place a try. Close at 9, we walked in at 8:30. Service was amazing. Everything we ate was done very well. Not on the menu but they also have chicken tenders and super skinny fries for kids. Low Country Pasta was a table favorite. Chicken spinach over mashed potatoes was delicious. It is an unfortunate truth that people are more likely to take the time to write a bad review than a good one. I will make it my New Year's resolution to start writing good reviews, after I get this one out of the way. My wife and I had had several lunches at this restaurant on previous trips driving past Abingdon and all were good experiences. Based on these experiences, we decided on dinner here last night while in Abingdon for a weekend stay. Never again! In honor of Festivus, I offer this "airing of grievances": 1) Upon being seated, our waiter poured water into our glasses, handling the glasses with his palm over top of the glasses, fingers down the sides of the glasses where our mouths would be. Poor technique - unsanitary and instant turnoff! 2) We each ordered an appetizer, a soup or salad, and an entree. My calamari was battered ala onion ring style. Way too much breading/batter, lending to a very greasy taste/feel. My wife had the oyster tacos. While she enjoyed the oysters, the flour tortillas upon which they were served had come straight from the refrigerator. She ate just the oysters. 3) The waiter then quickly brought the salad and soup, while our appetizers had only been at the table for less than ten minutes. My wife's salad was passable as was my black bean soup, though not worth writing home about. It was at this point that the pace of the meal became particularly irksome. With half-eaten appetizers still on the table plus the soup and salad, the waiter began trying to take away the appetizers and my soup for that matter. I made it clear we were still eating everything. No more than five minutes later, he reappeared and told us our entrees were ready and he needed to clear the table to make room for the entrees. We became painfully aware that we had inadvertently signed up for a speed eating contest by this time. 4) My wife had red snapper for an entree, which was overcooked and dry. It was served with a beans and rice side, which we're pretty sure was the black bean soup ladled over rice. I had the carnitas quesadillas, which were greasy and unremarkable. Again, the waiter was constantly wanting to clear plates. In our opinion (& that of many finer restaurants), it is bad form to take any plates away until everyone has finished. 5) Having now finished our dinner in record time, we were in no mood to stay here any longer, and of course, the waiter was only too happy to oblige and quickly closed out our bill. In total, door to door, the entire meal lasted maybe 45 minutes. 6) Now, the story should have ended here, and if it had, I might never have written this review. However, as we exited the restaurant, the bartender and the manager/owner(?) bid us farewell. Anxious to put this bad experience behind me, I simply said "Good night" and walked out the door. The manager turned to the bartender and said, "That guy has the personality of a stiff." Presumably, he did not intend for my wife to hear this, but she did and replied back to his remark, in a kind way simply to make him aware she had heard him. This put the manager in instant recovery mode as he rushed out to me outside the door trying to make nice. I was unaware of what he said inside and actually exchanged pleasantries with the man before bidding farewell. It wasn't until I caught up with my wife that I learned of his remark. So, in a nutshell, if you wish to be rushed through a mediocre meal and be insulted on your way out the door, 128 Pecan is the restaurant for you!! read more

The food came out in a great time also starters came in ample time before main meal giving you the time to enjoy it. I was looking forward to an excellent meal, but unfortunately was only mediocre. We ordered the special which was a Jerk Tuna filet. I asked for medium rare and got a thin, well-done dry piece of tuna. The jerk sauce was good and the black beans were satisfactory. My fiancé ordered crab cakeS and got one large cake that was mainly breading. The wine selection consisted of 2 labels that retail for $8-10 dollars per bottle. The service was great. read more

WOWEE!! Jacks place is a hidden gem. Food is absolutely delicious -- what an unexpected find! The chili baked salmon was cooked perfectly --cheddar grits were to die for and asparagus was yummy too. My husband and I visited 128 Pecan at the recommendation of a local barista. He said it was budget friendly. I suppose that depends on your budget. Entrees were $16+ . However, the place was beautiful and clean and trendy. I ordered the Low Country Alfredo (with andouille sausage, people). It was amazing. I started with a Caesar salad, and while the homemade dressing ruined my breath with all of the garlic, it was maybe one of the best Caesar salads I have ever had. My husband had the special- grilled pork loin with bacon brussel sprouts and wild rice. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted great. We followed dinner with the chocolate chip bread pudding, also an excellent choice. We will definitely be making another drive to Abingdon soon to eat here. read more

This was my first restaurant post pandemic. Maybe it was just because I'd been eating my own cooking for more than a year but it was the best meatloaf sandwich and fries I ever ate! Attractive surroundings, excellent service, reasonable price ~ although to be honest I would have paid almost anything not to have to eat what was in my kitchen again. I need to tell you, it was the customers pick at a business lunch, so I didn't complain to the staff, and I usually would give them the benefit of the doubt anyway. We started out ordering the artichoke dip-served beautifully but with every other chip being stale. Then I got the tomato bisque soup- good, followed by the house special shrimp Caesar salad. I guess the special part was not cleaning all the shrimp and giving you the extra crunch of their shells. I took the shrimp out and ate just the salad. However, the shells were also mixed in when the salad was tossed-and I'm done! I have to say the dressing was great and was unique., sans shells. I probably will have to give this restaurant another shot as the customers love it and Abington, Va has a limited amount of casual restaurants that are suitable for business lunches-not BBQ or hot dogs. Details: I came here a couple months ago when I visited a friend. In truth I came here twice in the same day. The first time I was trying to be healthy and avoided the tomato bisque soup and went for a light sandwich and salad. After trying the soup my wife ordered, that soup was in my head the whole day. The tomato bisque soup was soo creamy and rich that I had to go again-along with trying their specialty burger topped with pimento cheese. They say "go where the locals go" when exploring new towns. Well, 128 Pecan (or "Jacks" as the locals say) is that place in Abington. We stopped in for a bite at this little place and, though we only had a quick salad for lunch, we really liked it. The food of course was excellent but what hooked us was the friendly staff and clientele with whom we chatted during our visit. We'll definitely plan to be there for cocktails next time we come through. read more

Normally when I am in Abingdon I like to have dinner at The Tavern, but tonight there was no room at the inn. So, my grandson and I went to 128 Pecan which had excellent reviews on Yelp. I had the salmon special and the tomato bisque and the lad enjoyed a ribeye steak. I had some beer and the result was great. Tara was our waitress and she was excellent. 128 Pecan does not take reservations, but on a Saturday night we were seated in about 5 minutes. There were plenty of customers so we didn't feel that there was no business - a feeling I don't like in a restaurant. The venue is an old house on a back street. It's nicely decorated and attracted a casual, but neat crowd. I recommend it for locals and strangers as well. read more

My mother and I, longtime Abingdon residents, just had our first visit to 128 Pecan on Friday night! We were blown away and couldn't believe what we had been missing all this time. The ambiance is the first great thing about this place. There is a beautiful patio with a lovely view of the Creeper Train and Trail, particularly beautiful at sunset. There are also several rooms for inside seating, all very intimate and romantic (fireplace and candles really up that feel). Our server, Josh, was the next best thing. He was very helpful and knowledgeable about the food and he was really charming. Lastly, and most importantly, our food was yummy. I opted for a light meal-the chicken salad croissant and tomato bisque soup. (The soup was amazing! I ate the rest two days later with a grilled cheese and it was just as good as the first night! You know that I must really like it if I say this because I get kind of scared that things will go bad if they are in the fridge for more than a day even). My mother got the Chicken Florentine and also loved it. She kept trying to shove forkfuls of it into my mouth against my will. She liked it so that she boxed it up. She will probably eat one bite per day for a few months so that she can savor it, much like how I read Anna Karenina (one page, though.) Overall, go there! read more

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. I'm from a larger city that is known for their restaurants, but this one is right up there with them in service and food. I stop in for dinner at least once every time I'm in town for work. They are always so inviting and friendly and the ambiance is exceptional. I love sitting outside on the porch on warm nights. Tonight I ordered take-out for the first time from here and it was just as delicious as when I eat at their table. Their tomato bisque is the best I've had anywhere and I tried the Rosemary Chicken pasta for the first time tonight and the flavors are just incredible. Do whatever you need to do to eat in this top dining establishment. Now our favorite in Abingdon. We were totally impressed with the high quality and reasonable prices of this fun place to dine! Tried grilled lamb chops first. Cooked just right. Next the tomato bisque. Served nice n hot with fresh Parmesan. And the pies are homemade! This weekend was our first visit to this quaint and intimate restaurant in Abingdon. It came highly recommended from another hotel guest. The menu is very eclectic and has a nice variety of dishes. We had the salmon with chili sauce and lamb with tiziki sauce. Both very good! The owner was extremely friendly and welcoming and engaged with the patrons. While I enjoy culinary explorations, there are times when keeping it simple is actually even more appealing. One of the best examples of this is in the middle of long drives, and I-81, America's great highway from nowhere to nowhere, is the quintessential example of such a drive. I ended up with parmesan fries, caesar salad, and the Ranch Burger. Nothing I tasted was exactly revolutionary on my palate, but I would gladly return for a repeat of this plate of food. The Caesar dressing is of the creamy variety, but it is still light and refreshing, a great interlude as the day begins to really warm up. Similarly, the burger is excellent. This is clearly not your usual ground beef, but they further elevate it with slices of thick bacon and housemade Ranch. Yum. Actually, now that I think about it, I might change the fries a bit. Don't get me wrong, they were delicious and hit that perfect balance of crispy and soft, but the parmesan was a bit much. They were a bit heavy-handed with it and it tended to conceal the yummy seasonings beneath. I would probably just get regular fries next time around. All in all, a great restaurant and an excellent way to assauge the trauma associated with a visit to the ghastly Abingdon K-Mart. read more

Do yourself a favor and go. It's tucked away in a neighborhood and you could almost walk by it, but the food is excellent. We had calamari, chili rubbed salmon and the carnitas quesadilla, all were prepared with care. As a lifelong foodie I just expect to fuel up, but 128 delighted me with a true dining experience. I lived in Las Vegas for years and this wonderful gem would flourish in the town purported to be a culinary Mecca. The service was perfect too but not pretentious in any way. I've paid twice more for much less, don't miss out. I'll stop from now on when my travels bring me close by. read more

Just ordered lunch to-go this trip--fried green tomato/pimento cheese sandwich, with tomato bisque. Still say they have hands-down the best tomato soup ever. It's phenomenal. Sandwich was good but I felt like they were skimpy on the tomatoes--2 small slices on a decent sized sandwich. So it just mainly seemed like a cheese sandwich. A good cheese sandwich, but still, I just needed my tomatoes. Saw someone get a burger and it looked huge and delicious, so maybe I'll try that with the tomato soup next time.
