Do NOT move here. From day 1, this place has been horrible. Really poor communication with residents, mishandling packages, empty threats to force residents out, and more than inconvenient changes to living were among my problems. Overall, it just wasn't worth it to live here over almost everywhere in Silver Spring. But when the car thefts started happening, that confirmed for me that management didn't give a damn about their residents or their safety. They did absolutely nothing when our car got stolen from the lowest level of the parking garage--not even a response when we emailed them. I had to call for a manager at the *other* building this management company manages, Eleven55 Ripley (or, rather, text because no one is available to talk on the phone from the leasing office at either place) to get someone to address our email FOUR days after we first contacted them about the stolen car. Since then, other cars have been stolen, broken into, or had other damage to them. In the cases of a few people I've spoken to, they haven't heard anything from management in their cases either. The parking garage never felt safe to begin with and there's never been security here. But with this going on for weeks now and still no response from management while still having to pay for parking in the garage, this could spill up to the safety of residents in their units or more totals in damages that we would be responsible for. It's been one of the most stressful experiences I've ever had to deal with (and am still having to deal with, and I wouldn't recommend anyone live here or at any other building UDR manages. read more

1200 EW is about as good as it gets! Shout out to Danny especially, the rest of the main office crew, as well as the front desk, maintenance, and repair staff. Seriously, some of the nicest and most helpful people you'll ever have in an apartment complex! The building is really nice with some pretty great amenities. We have one of the smaller layouts, but it's more than enough space for two people and one small cat! Agreed with the reviewer below, we've had a few things break (mostly our blinds...) But within 12 hours of submitting a request for repair, which is online and super easy, it's repaired. You can also put in the window of time you'd like it to be repaired, which is great since I work from home. The location is awesome (tons of shopping and eating in walking distance), and theres an awesome farmers market in downtown silver spring every Saturday. We definitely recommend! read more

After living here two years I feel pretty neutral about the complex overall, but you won't get what you pay for here. Being from out of town and having difficulty finding a place in DC, I signed the lease in a rush and would not have signed again now that I know the area. With vacant inventory being so abundant in Silver Spring, the most perplexing part of everything was the pricing if I chose to stay. Even with signing a two year lease, my rent increased after the first year by $125 per month. If I renewed my lease for 12 additional months, my rent increased and additional $150 per month. If I wanted to stay for another month or even a few, the rent increase was upwards of $800 per month. Essentially this means that regardless as to how long you've lived here, they have no loyalty to current tenants. When I discussed this and the concerns below with the manager, his only reply (over and over and over again) was that it was out of his hands (he wasn't rude, but it was clear that my comments and feedback were moot) since the parent company Home Properties sets everything. Cons: - The tenants allow their pets to relieve themselves in the stairwells and parking garage. I run the stairs regularly as a workout and the urination issue hasn't changed in two years. It's multiple dog owners and not just one. The cleaning company does not clean the stairs either, which means that if an owner allows their dog to urinate in the stairwell it stays for weeks and weeks. - The building only has intermittent secure access. There are days or even weeks where the key fob entries are not working on the outer building doors, gates, or garage elevator doors and the the "concierge" will confirm this if asked. Isn't this part of the inflated rent pricing? - That randomly appearing funk. Yep...a funk throughout the parking garage. They attribute it to the grease traps from the restaurants; however, it's been unchanged for two years. - The features of the amenity room sometimes work and other times they do not. This week it's the movie TV. Again, not a huge deal, but if I'm paying for it with increased rent, I'd like it to work...and more importantly, it'd be better if the employees rounded on these items rather than depend on the tenants to speak up before repairs. (since writing this post the computers have not had an internet connection for almost two weeks and the large TV has no cable yet again). - The parking garage can be difficult to not damage your car in and passing by someone can sometimes be challenging. This seems minor, but when you're coming in and out daily, it really is difficult to not run a high risk of damage. - Although the walls are thick and the glass is doubled paned, you can hear your neighbors closing kitchen cabinets, etc. It's better than many lower priced apartments I've lived in previously, but it's noticeable. Positives: - The Silver Spring metro is very close and the grocery store is very convenient. - Train noises are dulled dramatically and the apartments are fairly energy efficient. - Mail and packages...I've only had one package out of dozens disappear from the concierge desk. read more

Okay, 4.5 Stars. I have been wanting to write this review for a while, hesitating only because I don't need Yelp randos to know where I live. Bottom line-- my husband and I lived in 10 apartment complexes over the last 20 years, and 1200 East West was the best one. That could be damning with faint praise, since so many others were so disappointing. Of course, little things crop up, here and there. But we've lived in Chicago's "Gold Coast," and we've lived in DC's Dupont Circle. 1200 East West has most definitely been the most responsive and the most welcoming. Particular shout out to Morgan and DeAndre and the entire maintenance and repair crew. Sure, something might break, something might go wrong. This happened to us-- maybe a handful of times in 4 years. But you put in a ticket, it gets fixed in 12 hours-- max. Beat that. I could quibble, but why? It's a great location, a beautiful-- even impressive-- building, with a responsive staff. Highly, highly recommended. read more

If you are considering renting here, you should reconsider. I moved in two months ago and here's my experience: I was notified on 4/22 that there was a balance overdue ($800) on my account. I immediately logged in and paid the balance, including the late fee, and then wrote a frustrated email to the company rep: the balance due was a result of an error by UDR (owns the building), not by me. When I paid my account in late March, my move-in incentives had been credited to my account and I paid the upcoming balance, but at some time after that the incentives credit was erroneously removed. The company rep looked into it the next day and confirmed I was right and credited $840 (balance + late fee) to my account. At this point I am annoyed but glad it has been taken care of. Also worth noting: at no point did she offer an apology for the mistake on the part of someone at UDR. Later that day I got home, checked my US mail, and discovered I have a court summons for failure to pay rent. Legal proceedings were started before I was contacted about the missing rent! So now I have a court date to deal with and have given UDR an interest-free loan of $840. At this point I am very disappointed in my experience at this building and wish I had chosen to live somewhere else, only two months into my lease. Today (5/6) I get home to find two other carbon copies of the court summons taped to my apartment door, a very public humiliation. Now my neighbors think I'm a deadbeat about to be evicted. Does anyone think this is an appropriate way to treat your residents? There are other places in Silver Spring to live that aren't owned by UDR (also owns Eleven55 and Portico)-- you surely will do better than this. read more

Pros: Location........and that's it Cons: 1) Rent price is rip off. They know they are ripping you off and then do it with a smile. Your water bill will be $25 flat per month, even if you go on vacation, $25 minimum. 2) Common area is cleaned maybe on a good month 1 time per 2 weeks. So use rubber gloves. Carpet is gross. Gross is an understatement. They also treat their cleaning staff like dirt, Its really sad. Like uncomfortably sad. If you specialize in labor law, all their employees might turn out to be great potential clients. 3) Management only pretends to care about you, if you can help them. Its a totally fake environment and they are really bad actors. 4) You are going to pay $125 for parking. Have fun with that 5) Anyone who wrote a nice review, either has extremely low expectations or works for 1200 East West. I've lived here for 4 years, so I'm very familiar with the cons. 6) Its not quite. Trains, firetrucks, cops, they will keep you up. Building also have some interesting residents. SWAT team showed up once. That was fun. 7) Management will spend your rent money on pointless things, like redecorating the hallways to look like the hotel from the Shining. I liked the Shining, but I don't want to actually live at the Overlook Hotel. 8) Its fake new. All the shiny objects in your apartment like the stove, microwave, prison bathtub, have a shelf life of a year. It will break and they will blame you 9) You will be thrilled to move out, but not so thrilled when you get a bill. TAKE PICTURES & bring your former college roommate who is now a lawyer when you move out. Cant stress this enough. They will find any way they can to blame you for any problem, however minor or not apparent. Dust on a mirror? $150 cleaning fee. Carpet that is actually originally beige, but they claim was bone white $300 replacement. Good luck. 10) You are paying $2800 a month for 2 bedroom (sticker price is minus everything) and you dont even life in beautiful San Francisco. Try to cope with that. 11) If you write a bad review they will try to find you and silence you. They tried to bribe my neighbors to take down their their post. Pros: The location is convenient, the apartments are ample sized compared to nearby properties, service requests are handled quickly (usually), and the staff is very pleasant. Cons: In the last 18 months, the water and/or hot water have gone out on at least 3-4 occasions. In at least two of these, residents have been without hot water for multiple days. During this time period, there was one complete, nearly day-long, electrical outage -- not good when your apartment is above the 10th floor. Electrical and plumbing fixtures are strange -- outlets are all upside down, toilet flushing mechanisms often stop working. Heating and A/C generally don't reach the bedrooms (at least on the larger 2 BR units), necessitating space heaters in the winter and fans in the summer. I think that the HVAC compressor in the unit is under powered for the size of he apartment. No amount of tinkering with the vent slats seems to help this. As others have noted, the garage is problematic. Lanes are too narrow, too many blind curves, some spaces are true obstacle courses (narrow, with plumbing and other protrusions getting in the way of entering and exiting parking stalls. Security: Outer doors to the building are frequently left open (including in the garage). The loading dock door is often left open, along with the loading dock entry door on the G1 level, allowing direct access into the building. Amenities: Underwhelming for the price range. Basic, not very comfortable lobby. Small meeting room. Uninspiring "community" room. Small exercise room. Microscopic rooftop patio that is surrounded by the HVAC equipment. No pool. No walking area. Small ground floor patio with a grill. NO DRIVEWAY. i emphasized this last one because this is the only high-rise apartment in the area with no driveway to accommodate delivery vehicles, taxis, etc. Everyone has to illegally park on East-West Hwy, or on Blair Mill Road (around the corner) in order to do pickups, deliveries, or maintenance work. Instead of a driveway, there is a somewhat large plaza in front of the building which is barely used. Bottom line: So far, I've stayed here for the size of the apartments. Little else. read more

I came to live in this building on 2015. At that time this building was beautiful. It was very well maintained. Clean, new, the community areas very clean. I used to invite my friends to visit me. It was a nice apartment. I loved the experience. Then we moved to another building. But after some years we needed a bigger apartment and we found one again in 1200 East West Hwy. Because we had a great experience we came back here. Now everything is different, the building is not longer the same. The community areas are not well cleaned, the rooftop was very dirty, the area of the bbq omg!! Full of leaves, dirty and with some horrible old and dirty sofas. In the hallways is a horrible and disgusting smell. The elevators are dirty, you can see the fingerprints on the metal of the elevator. The G1 is simply disgusting!!!!!! Full of leaves, cups. The ceiling of G1 is damaged is some areas. The first places to park omg it make me feel i am in a horrible building. When you enter to the elevator area of G1 you can smell all the garbage of the garbage deposit. The carpet is soooooooooooo filthy. The other G2 and G3 are cleaner. The last community manager, Deandre didn't make the best job. He didn't maintain the level of cleaning of this building. Now he is in another community. I hope Dedra can make something about this. I already told her but she is not caring about this. I am talking about community areas. Now let's talk about my apartment. My apartment looks beautiful now but when i arrived it was so disrespectful to receive an apartment in that condition. The bath tuba were dirty with stains, the washer and dryer with mold, full of lint but tons of it. I had to watch Youtube videos to clean very well the appliances. The plugs weren't working. I still have problems with my carpet. When we step on some areas we can feel the nails. My son hurt his foot. I had to call the county to receive a new washer and dryer, we were waiting for months to receive a new one. I don't like to write reviews but iam very tired to see that this is not improving. The last year i understood the situation of the pandemia but now everything is coming back to a "normal routine" and specially on this season that we need to be clean I think is imperative that the administration take care of their community. We are giving our money to UDR for years. I will mention that i like the interior distribution of my apartment. Is spacious and i love the view of my apartment. If they clean very well the community areas are cool. The location of the building is near to the metro. I like this. I don't like to don't value the work of others but i am sure the administration of this building and UDR can make something. They know more than me how to maintain and administrate a building. Great place to live. The Giant is basically in your basement and it's less than 5 minute walk to the Metro. Denizens is also right nearby if you want to have a few drinks with friends. The gym and club room are spacious and clean, and the roof deck offers awesome views (fireworks). The apartments are spacious with modern appliances, and I especially enjoyed our balcony. I leased a 1BR (715 sq ft.) apartment from September 2010 to October 2011. Despite the size, the apartment had a really spacious layout with ample storage and extremely functional kitchen (I effortlessly cooked BIG meals for 10 people). I think all balconies are Juliet balconies except the 2BR but I found a way to wiggle a lawn chair on mine during the summer. The amenities and common areas are fantastic. Grab a few friends and just hang out. The building was and most tenants were great neighbors, but there are a few nitwits who made the mail room messy, constantly ding cars in the garage, and improperly use the trash room. THE GOOD - Close to the METRO, but not so close that you hear the noise - Well appointed amenities and a good size, usable gym (mostly cardio) - Walk to supermarket, drug store, coffee, and fast food - Leasing staff was all awesome. They remember everyone by name. If you're an idiot, or angry, they are still polite and friendly - Concierge is professional and I miss Ricardo very much (I actually miss everyone very much) - Package acceptance (and Ricardo doesn't take crap). - Move out was easy, fair, honest, and classy to the end. - The price of utilities were reasonable... but extreme weather yields higher bills (that's a fact everywhere I think) THE NOT SO GOOD - Safety -- For a while there was a bike theft issue. - Noise -- If your neighbors are quiet, you're good to go. Light sleepers may notice ambient street noise on the Blair Mill side (didn't bother me) and emergency vehicles from a nearby fire station - Parking garage -- Managed by Atlantic Parking, over-priced and inept. I'm still receiving parking fees despite having canceled my service beginning in October. Residents pay the same rate as non-residents; guests must pay the daily rate rather than receiving temporary day/passes - Amenities -- teeny Juliet balconies; $100/hour for community rooms The cons to the building are really small by comparison to the pros. I moved out because my new neighbors were god-awful and I found a quiet condo to rent before moving to Seattle. I would recommend the building though and would probably check it out if I move back to the area. read more

My boyfriend was relocating from NYC to DC due to job related issues and left me in charge of the apartment hunting. At first we looked at Bethesda and it was just way out of our price range. So we came to Silver Spring. Our first stop was at the Veridian. It was so nice, but again out of our price range. Then we went to the Blairs. We saw couple of units which really caught our eye but we had to do some more research. On our way back to the car I saw this apt - 1200 East West, which hasn't been on the internet yet so we decided to give it a look. Ashley was our leasing consultant, and she was so patient with us. She showed us apartments on the different floors, and we really liked the floor plan. But we still had our options opened. We looked at more apartments throughout the weekend and we were actually going to go with the Georgian - but decided to give 1200 one more look and Ashley couldn't have helped us more. We went up and down the elevators trying to see which unit would suit us and there it was. We finally found our place! We signed the leasing papers right away and now we LOVE our apartment. We are on the higher floors and our heat has NEVER been turned on because it's so warm in our apartment. The view is incredible- you get the view of the Washington Monument and the Capitol and of course the nice scenic trees. The Giant and CVS and different restaurants such as Mammas Lucias is literally right next door and the Metro is a five minute walk. The rent is reasonable. I guess it's because you get what you pay for. There's a nice club room with a media room that has a huge tv / screen inside with comfy chairs to watch movies and or play games such as the WII or PS3. They have 3 mac's, a pool table, chess table, checkers table. FREE STARBUCKS COFFEE! (the cups are always refilled and it always worked for me). Also a gym with a rock climbing wall. The staff- they are so friendly. I think Ashley being so sweet just made us like this apartment complex even more. The concierge are so friendly and helpful as well. Downtown Silver Spring is like a ten minute walk. It's also a BRAND NEW BUILDING, so we were the first ones in our apartment! There are also 5 zipcars in the garage so it's so convenient. I agree with the person below though with the garage door. I kinda don't like the fact that there is an easy outgoing access though the garage. Stumbled upon these apartments on accident while apartment hunting, but the 13th place I stopped in turned out to be the right one. If I didn't live here, recently moving across country would've been a much harder adjustment. I love their wifi clubroom, coffee bar, friendly staff, and monthly mingle events. For what it is it's quite expensive, and the building upkeep leaves a lot to be desired. There was a sewage leak in the parking garage that wasn't dealt with for several months. Trash is usually strewn all over the mail room--they have extremely small waste containers that they don't empty often enough. When you move out, be sure to thoroughly document the condition of the apartment. We left it in pristine condition, but were still assessed cleaning fees. Bottom line, there are plenty of good places for a decent bit cheaper in the area. read more

Hello All, I am moving out of 1200 EW in the next month and just wanted to write a review about my time there. This apartment is as good as it gets for a large apartment building. I have lived here for over 7 years and the apartment building is clean, no PESTS, nice and responsive staff and save living quarters, I never had an issue with my home or car. Neighbors are lovely - for the most part people keep to themselves, but are friendly. I can literally count the number of times that I have been disturbed by loud noise on one hand. The front desk and office staff are nice and helpful. They go out of there way to help. So all that to say, you won't be disappointed if you choose to make 1200 EW your home. read more

I have lived in this building for a few years now and have loved it. The rent is very competitive in the area and the units are much nicer than the others we saw in the area when we were looking for a place. The front desk concierge is wonderful and has helped us out in many many ways. From handling all our packages when we got married to giving us an emergency battery when we in desperate need of one, they are amazing. We love using the grills out back when it is nice out. Also, the not often used rooftop gives you beautiful views of downtown DC and MAryland and VA. If you go up there on 4th of July you can simultaneously see all of the fireworks! In terms of maintenance, they are incredibly responsive and I have always had a 24 hour turn around on all of my requests (which coincidentally were very minor since everything here is new new new). read more

I've lived here just over six months now paying $1770+, and regret moving here every single day and can't wait to move back out! Bottom line: Do not move into 1200 East West (or nearby Eleven55 Ripley for that matter) if you look for value in what you pay for and want to live comfortably. Do not waste your money and time fussing with an incompetent, careless management team that does not value residents but are beholden to a corporate bottom line and what seems to be a culture of ignoring genuine issues that plague this property. 1200 East West suffers from poor management and the lack of attention building management gives to so many obvious problems with this property. If you are going to market a property as a luxury apartment community and ask residents to pay such high rent prices, they should be afforded a higher level of care and attention to their concerns and needs, and have significantly better-living conditions. There are very FEW PROS/upsides to living here aside from the location and proximity to the Metro, nearby grocery stores and shops, and somewhat spacious units. That is all. BIGGEST ISSUES: The building is not well-maintained is always dingy and unkempt, with a housekeeping staff that seems to barely do anything (the maintenance staff could do much better as well). The lobby, elevators, and hallways are never thoroughly cleaned. The hallways ALWAYS STINK AND SMELL LIKE GARBAGE (trash facilities don't seem properly maintained so odor emanates throughout the property). This will make its way into your unit because the doors are not well insulated and no door sweep at the bottom (a wide gap that allows everything in). SOUND: This is a huge problem and is almost unbearable because it is all day and night. You hear EVERYTHING coming from the hallways because the doors are not insulated, the walls are very thin, and if you live below or near a unit with the cheap flooring they called "upgraded wood" you will hear footsteps and other noise non-stop. Also, the cabinetry in the kitchen and bathroom are not "soft close" so you will hear your neighbors slam them all day and night. GENERAL: The windows are poorly insulated, so be prepared for a higher electric bill to warm your unit during the winter months (my unit is ice cold unless my heat stays on 80+); the finishes are extremely cheap and nothing seems to be regularly serviced or replaced unless you complain constantly about it. Building management does not care about issues that you bring to their attention. I've been dealing with odors from food and marijuana coming through my dryer vent and ceiling vent fan in my bathroom (yes, seriously!)(units are not individually vented like many other modern buildings). This has been on-going since I moved in. These odors are continual and linger no matter what I do. Building management was made aware of it and did everything possible to ridicule and practically blame me for it, and suggest that no one else is or has experienced this issue (total lie!), so they do not know why I was continually complaining about it. All this, even though I spoke to my neighbor who lives below me who confirmed the same smells and said she complained about it as well. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT FIXING AND ADDRESSING ISSUES THAT ARE OF REAL CONCERN TO THE VERY FOLKS WHO PAY TO LIVE HERE. DO NOT MOVE HERE IF YOU VALUE GETTING WHAT YOU PAY FOR BECAUSE YOU WILL DISAPPOINTED. Overall, this place is NOT WORTH THE RENT, and ultimately, you will end up moving back out in a year after the end of your lease. The property is not luxurious or upscale in any way, and the fact that the building is advertised this way and you pay a premium for sub-standard conditions throughout the apartment community is unacceptable. Save your money and your time and avoid the frustration that comes with residing here. Look elsewhere and rest assured you are not missing out on anything here. I will never recommend this property to anyone I know and I hope UDR looks more closely at this property and address what is so obviously wrong with this building and why it has gone downhill. read more

Its a smaller community that is well maintained. I had few maintenance issues moving in which were fixed and replaced with a day of request. We all know what it means to live in an apartment complex where nothing can be done despite numerous request. This place is a joke. Hot water often runs out. Garage spaces are super narrow and trap ridden. Constant smell of weed pouring out the bathrooms. They say they're an environmentally friendly / green building yet the electric car charging station has been broken for over a year! Management is too posh to follow up and actually get back to someone. Location/building has lots of potential but it needs a reset or a price adjustment. NO pool, NO driveway, NO your not the only one that hears trains running and trash pickups @ 6 am on east/west daily!! read more

I've lived at this property for a little over three years now. Any issues that have come up: noise from neighbor's pets, neighbors who break the rules and smoke in their apartment and anything else that has come has been met with genuine concern and prompt attention. The maintenance staff is always quick to respond to any request (clogged pipe, etc) within 24hours and effectively take care of the problem. The most concerning issue of late was a change in the cleaning staff who were doing a sub-par job. Management worked quickly to address the issue and resolve that as well. As a renter, I am very pleased with the cleanliness, management, and location of this property. I highly recommend it. read more

The physical condition is good. Apartment maintenance requests are submitted online and are typically addressed in 24 hours or less if you submit overnight. What kills this rating is the elevator system. We've been living here for about 18 months and the elevators have been down at least 10 times. Sometimes it's due to a power surge by Pepco, the local power company and during the winter the equipment is affected by subfreezing temperatures in the garage entrance elevator lobby. Our previous apartment was a 1950's building in Chevy Chase which we lived in for three years without an elevator problem. As I write this all three elevators are out with no explanation. To be fair, from what I understand it's partly due to original equipment selection during the building design meaning there's no real solution. So my suggestion is rent on the first four floors. read more

My wife and I set up an appointment a few days before arriving in the DC area to view apartments. We promptly showed up at the appointment time (which was when the office opened), but had to wait a half hour for the leasing agent to take care of some walk-ins. When we pointed out that it was unprofessional to take walk-ins before potential tenants with an appointment (never mind that the potential tenants were from out of town - a fact communicated when setting up the appointment), the response we got was, "well, I'm the only one here. I had to take them." Totally unprofessional and irresponsible. This conduct begs the question: if this is how they treat people who made an appointment (who were considering committing to paying $30-40K in rent over 12 months), how do they treat their tenants who are contractually bound to pay rent, no matter how poorly they treat the tenants? I viewed this property recently and it is fantastic. The location and prices are great plus the floor plans are spacious with nice and new finishes. HOWEVER 5 STARS for Deandre Henderson and Djene for their more than superior customer service, prompt responses and attention to detail. These 2 have always provided us with the best assistance and care whenever possible. They are knowledgeable, courteous, kind and show a great deal of sympathy during difficulty. If it was not for these 2 and their assistance in addressing various issues, we would have moved out a long time ago. Thank you Deandre and Djene you will be missed. read more

It's safe, it's clean, it's big, I have a balcony and washer and dryer in my apartment. I'm happy here. Yeah, to me the price is high but so is the area. I surely know that I would NOT be happy at the Blairs. So... I pay more so I can be happy and safe -- as a single women in the area. read more

I have lived in this building for three years now, and am very pleased with my unit and the service I receive from the front desk and the management office. The building is clean and well maintained. I don't use the amenities much, but I am happy they are there. The roof-deck is a nice addition for the summer. Being on the corner, there are plenty of units with great views, where you're not staring into neighboring buildings. I admit that some things in the apartment are not the best quality - I sometimes have issues with things breaking down. BUT the service is very prompt, and usually fixed within a few hours of my reporting it. I am very pleased to live in this building full of friendly residents and staff. read more

My husband and I have lived at 1200 for over 4 years. New to the DC area we found this property best fits our busy lifestyle needs. The location is ideal for those who want to live near DC, but desire more space. Our 2bd is spacious enough to entertain, which is rare on the east coast. The property management readily takes care of any issues that may arise (great 24 hour maintenance). The amenities are a plus, as well, the fitness center is spacious offering machine, weights, and an aerobics room, and the community room offers free wifi- and a movie room! The community room is a great place to have a party!! We love being able to bbq in the summer utilizing the gas grills on the patio. Unlike, some properties there is a cleaning crew daily to ensure the property property is clean. But what I love most, is the monthly events hosted by the leasing office for residents to show their appreciation. read more

Building is quiet and nicely constructed. However.... Upon returning home from work I find a letter from management stating that bikes (PLURAL) are being stolen from inside of our "secure" apartment complex. I have been living here since the building first opened and this was the first time management notified tenants of thefts in the building. I go downstairs to check on my bike and find that it is gone and the lock was broken. Notify the concierge who does nothing except say that they suspect someone is loading them into a car because they don't see anyone riding away on them. Could have at least asked what color it was a pretended they would check the cameras. Management should not have waited until a bunch of bikes were being stolen before notifying tenants. People could have moved their property to a more secure location if they were notified of the thefts. Some cars were also broken into on one occasion we were informed. The garage door always open, even when there is no parking attendant on duty which probably explains the thefts noted above. The coffee machine rarely works and when it does there are no cups. Too frequent (for a brand new building) scheduled visits by maintenance staff who have their own keys to our units. Great that they are maintaining the building, but not great if you have to secure your dog for the whole day when you are at work. Oddly, they also promised a dog-run when we moved in, saying that it was going to be built, but that never happened. They have no garbage pails outside for dog poop or places to walk your dog other than other apt property. read more

Ever since they transitioned to UDR the quality of service has decreased. Elevators break down every week. At least once a month you'll encounter a funky smell either in the garage or the apartments hall ways or even the main entrance. The set of new concierges are for the most part very clueless. They now let delivery people up to apartments ( dominos, chinese fast food). Home properties had the best staff. They were helpful and polite. Do not intend on renewing my lease in the next 6 months. read more

So I've been here about a month now. I really don't have much bad to say. The building is beautiful. The view from my balcony is priceless. The neighbors are friendly. The amenities are stacked. There are parties here almost every month. I attended the holiday party which had decent food, good drinks, and better company. I've hosted no less than three gatherings here at my apartment. We had an awesome Thanksgiving here. I even invited two of the concierge staff. They're still raving over my fiance's food. It's actually gotten around the building a little bit. I have what I've always wanted. A social meeting spot at my home. Friends and family stop by all the time. I have even been able to conduct business by utilizing the conference room areas. Which is very awesome as I work from home a lot. My internet is fast. I have more bathrooms than bedrooms. That is soooo convenient. Parking for my guests is it the only challenge. I don't have a suggestion to remediate this issue. Space is limited but that is not the problem. The problem is how do you maintain security and not let the riff raff in and still be convenient to your guests. There is a $5 parking fee that I find annoying for guests during the week. So I tell them to just park at the Giant parking lot and walk around. read more

I have lived here for almost three years so I've seen a lot of changes. This review is limited to the Lead Concierge, Owen Alexander. He is courteous, professional and helpful which is exactly what you need from someone in this role. While working from home, I have to engage him on a regular basis and he is always quick to assist me with whatever I need. He always seems to be aware of the activity taking place in the building, be it vendors, contractors, access to amenities, etc. Furthermore, there seems to be a consistency with the level of service and a standard of expectation for concierge staff as a whole. Given that the concierge role heavily influences the impression people get of the property (both residents and visitors), it's nice to have someone who understands the importance of this role. Owen's presence really makes a difference. read more

It's a very conveniently located building. Shopping, eating, and Metro just steps away. Don't be fooled by the glitter and glam of the show. Ask them to take you on floors other than the one where the model is. The elevator landings are GROSS and it always stinks. Because of the three restaurants at the bottom of the building the grease trap odor sometimes is unbearable. The amenities are almost always closed. When I first moved here the club room was closed for like 3 months for some kind of renovation ..even though it ended up looking the exact same. The hallways are not air conditioned and are often hot and muggy in fact there was some moldy musty corners right as you get to my apt door. The management company UDR nickle and dimes you for everything. The Immediate property management is NO HELP. I never see anyone doing a walk around to make sure things are in place. The call box only works half the time and the concierge staff are so unfriendly. I can't wait for my lease to be up so I can move. read more

This place is the worst place you may ever rent in DC area. You'll regret it and have very hard time living here and when you try to vacate it'll be a nightmare. You only come here if you want to sign a contact in a rush and failed to find other places. They are very dishonest and once you sign the contract they will give you very very hard time to leave. They will let you pay and pay and pay for a very small space and it's not the case for the other buildings around. The meintainance services are the worst they just don't come! The leasing office lady is very rude and they have systematic habit of ignoring your calls if you want to stop one of their services like (parking) so you can pay less. They are just experts in making your life harder and having you to pay more. I lived in many nice buildings in the area and this is the only disgusting one! Writing a review here about the bad experience with 1200 East west is not enough for me. I'll take advantage of me being a journalist and having access to many local newspapers to write an article about how they rob you! read more

The building is clean and well-kept, and easy walking distance to basics (bank, grocery, pharmacy, metro). I lived on the 7th floor, briefly. I lived here for several years. I never had a problem with maintenance or the building itself. But, When I went to renew the lease, management would raise the rent every single time. Finally, I chose to leave and guess what? My apartment remained vacant for 3 months or so... After that they dropped the monthly price of the unit by $250 a month. So annoying!!!! There loss never missed a single payment! The management company should try being more loyal to there paying customers; I saw plenty of eviction notices while I was living there. read more

Counted down the days to get out of here!! This place isn't worth the money. It's falling apart: the elevators break, the hot water goes out frequently, power flickers, and constant fire alarm testing. Most of the concierge staff are openly annoyed they have to put down their phones to help you. The security is a joke: residents are constantly leaving the loading dock open, parking garage access doors open, and letting strangers into the building. The lower garage floor smells like poop (again). Atlantic parking monitors are a nightmare. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone I liked. read more
