We've lived at the Citron since the end of December, and we've really enjoyed our home here so far. We loved that we were able to find a nice, dog-friendly apartment within walking distance of the rail, stores, entertainment, and a great little dog park. Even though there are lots of dogs in this apartment complex, we don't hear any barking (or any noise for that matter) from the apartments around us. The property manager, Jenifer, and the concierge personnel are all very friendly; they know us (and our dog) by name, and Garrett is always ready with a dog treat and some pets for our dog! We recently had a maintenance request that we put in one evening, and the maintenance manager resolved it the very next day. As far as amenities go, just to name a few there is a well-equipped gym, outdoor pool, grills, fire pits, and a community room of sorts with a fireplace, bar area, and various games. The building overall is is always well taken care of and clean. All in all, we enjoy the amenities that this apartment community offers and the convenient location, we are definitely happy that we chose this complex as our home! read more

Do NOT under any circumstances move here. The good reviews are years ago. The garage has been broken for almost a year. A car and a bike were stolen. An active shooter ran into the garage and was caught by the police. These people in the leasing office have no care or concern about the residents. No residents drive into the garage and park where ever and they don't have a towing company. Mice are in the first floor apartments. Can't wait to get out of here. read more

The Citron Apartments - Apartments Near Me - Silver Spring, Maryland

This place was nice 5+ years ago. The current landlord/manager does not respond to emails and does not communicate in a straightforward, honest way. Currently the gym equipment is old, outdated, and in some cases rusty. The carpet in my unit is awful and they won't replace it. They didn't even come look at it when I asked that it be replaced. My locked bike got stolen from the "secure" bike area. The first floor smells terrible. There are not enough parking spaces for all residents, and I was lied to when I first moved in about how long I would be on the waitlist to get a space. Everything in the apartment is cheap and has not been updated. Handles fall off the wall, off the bathroom doors, off the bathroom sink, etc and even though maintenance will come, their fixes only last for about 2 weeks because everything is so cheap. The concierge staff are all very nice and helpful! Bob the leasing agent is also wonderful and a good person to the core. They are the best thing about this place and what I will miss. The pool area is really nice and if you can get an apartment with a balcony it is nice to sit out there. These benefits don't outweigh the greatly increasing number of downsides anymore. read more

Every single thing is true what written below, mice on 5th floor and plenty everywhere ,dirty hall floors ,management doesn't care. Takiir is correct. They act as though they have no mice read more

It is NOT worth the money to live here. The walls are paper thin!!! You can hear each and every step your upstairs neighbors take (god forbid they drop something or have a vibrating bed!). You can hear your next door neighbors slamming their drawers to their bedroom chest, slamming cabinets, using the garbage disposal, yapping on their balcony. Other neighbors have loud yappy dogs and slam doors. My upstairs neighbors dump water all over my balcony 3-4 days/week. Took weeks to get taken care of and it still continues to drip onto my balcony. Can't enjoy my own balcony for fear of getting drenched. On top of that, it takes FOREVER to get responses from the management team. Has taken MONTHS for some of these issues to be tended to, others just can't be dealt with because simply put: cheap construction of the building. read more

I stumbled upon this property while apartment hunting and the leasing staff definitely left an impression. From the second I walked through the door--LITERALLY--everyone I encountered was accommodating and knowledgeable (especially impressive bc I dropped in without an appointment less than an hour before closing--sorry!). The property was clean and well-maintained. The landscape, common area design/layout, and even the floor plans seemed well thought out & executed. I noticed the leasing agent knew the name of every tenant we passed during the tour. It all lent to a very "unfussy" atmosphere. 4.5 stars read more

The staff was extremely rude. No apologies for keeping me waiting for over 30 minutes to see the property. Almost no acknowledgement of me even being present. When I was finally acknowledged, she told me to wait 20 minutes. You would have thought I was there begging for a place to live for free. That lack of attention when I'm just visiting the property is very telling of how attentive/concerned the property manager & team will be once I move in. It's unfortunate because it appears to be such a nice property at the right location. read more

The experience my finance and I had was so bad, that I will write briefly because I don't even want to re-live my time there in my memories. Moved in April 13th, moved out end of May. My god, the noise from the tenants above was unbearable. Truly miserable. I asked leasing office if this was regular within first week of living there, they asked me to download a decibel reading app to prove I wasn't a sensitive needy tenant (actually had the audacity to tell me multiple times "we understand some people are more sensitive to noise than others"), so I did. App readings were consistently at "Loud singing inside of a car" or "Motorcycle"!!!! This is the direct wording of my app. To note, these noise decibel readings were 130% the Maryland legal limit for tenants. This took place 6:30 AM through 7 PM every day of the week (toddlers not in day-care or school using the floor as a court/playground all day, everyday). On-site staff was woefully ineffective at solving this problem. One month after issue was brought to attention, I realized nothing was going to be done to help us. I let office know we needed to move out ASAP. I will note we did not pay a lease breakage fee. Truly regrettable life decision for my fiancé and I. We feel we paid thousands of dollars to live a horrifically unpleasant life. Also to note, there are no sign-up perks here, like there are at the surrounding buildings. There is also a quarter-year wait for a parking spot. One concierge attendant is wonderful, and the other has the fakest smile/most unpleasant attitude I've experienced in the service industry (which I work in). Please ignore any "I'm sorries" from management if they post below. This issue was brought to the regional manager. They knew, and did nothing. read more

The leasing agent I talked with today was unprofessional. I communicated that I called yesterday and someone told me the leasing agents were out because of a holiday. The leasing agent stated that the apartment was closed, but I said "someone still picked up the phone" then he went to explain that it was their online representative. I said "okay: and tried to move onto the topic, about availability, which was why I called in the first place. He continued to cut me off when I tried to do so to still keep talking about why their office was closed. It was not serious, at all. It seemed to me that the agent likes to engage in a lot of passive aggressive back and forth arguing. Then, when he told me that were no availability on what I was looking for, he said that 10,00 people were looking for the same thing and proceeded to give a whole lot of unhelpful statements, implying that what I was looking for was not available anywhere. He didn't even bother to get my contact information, just in case anything changed within their office to keep me update. I kept saying "thank you" to him in hopes that he would stop explaining a point that did not matter. He was not much of a help, at all. They need better staff apparently. read more

I toured the Citron back in January 2019 and signed a lease to start in February 2019. Parking is a huge issue here - if you have a car you don't want to live here. When I signed the lease, the leasing agent told me that I would have to wait up to three months for space in their garage. The price quoted was $145 dollars. I wasn't thrilled but I liked the apartment so I agreed. About a month after moving in, I asked where I was on the waiting list and all of a sudden its a brand new story. The property manager said it would take 6 months or longer before I get space. I was furious. I asked for a concession since I was lied to by the leasing agent, but they wouldn't budge. They acknowledged that the leasing agent lied to me but still didn't do anything. Fast forward to September (7 months later), and I get notified they have a space for me, but the price has increased to $200! They refused to give me the original price quoted when I moved in. Very dishonest practices. Also of note in the building are the roaches (just look in the stairwells for the dead bugs). I also booked the club room for a night, paying $500 to do so. On the evening of the event, they had no record of my reservation! Good thing I forced them to make a copy of the contract I signed. This place could benefit from a management overhaul and more transparency from their staff. read more

The Citron has been a great place for my wife and I to live for the past few years. The apartments are spacious and the pool, fitness room, lobby, hallways, club room, and common areas are immaculate. The maintenance staff is friendly and efficient and everyone on the management team is terrific. We also have a great Bookclub with over twenty members and it is always well publicized by Jenifer and the property staff. Our move here was one of the best decisions we've made in years! read more

I lived at the Citron 2/2015 to 10/2017. I loved the building, the staff, my unit, the courtyard. Maintenance was always prompt and professional. The front desk and leasing staff were very friendly and helpful. Package handling was 97% perfect. I loved having in-unit laundry, paying rent online, the gorgeous community room, the nice-looking gym. Rent increases were modest, 4-6% per year. Things that frustrated me during my time there: 1) There is a woman who uses the gym for commercial purposes and she can be inconsiderate of individual residents who are working out. I never complained about this, but it's likely a violation of the policies. 2) The wifi in the lobby and community room was often unreliable. I left because I wanted to own, and I had bought a place. Did I mention the staff were great? read more

I'll update when I have more time. But it was important to me to write a quick post and say that this is the best place I have ever lived at (aside from when I owned my own home), and the best people work here. I love the Citron! read more

Just moved here to be closer to work, and can safely say it was one of the best decisions we've ever made. First off, for us, the location can't be beat. We didn't want to live in a high-rise near the Silver Spring Metro (too busy) and the Citron is a smaller, five-story building on the fringe of the residential area of Silver Spring but still within a block of downtown. The smaller building really fosters a sense of community, which we love. Turn left out of the front entrance, and you're 1/2 mile from Sligo Creek Park. Turn right, and you're one or two blocks away from great restaurants, Whole Foods, movie theaters, and hair salons. Six or seven blocks to Silver Spring Metro. OK, so the location is nice, right? But if you're living in a junky apartment, does location really matter? Good thing we don't have to worry about that. The property is BEAUTIFUL. Every detail, from the landscaping to the fitness center, is impeccable. The concierge is always friendly, and the leasing office staff is TOP NOTCH. Our apartment is beautifully appointed, with stainless steel appliances, high efficiency full-size washer and dryer, balcony. The floors, paint, light fixtures and granite counter tops are high quality. These details matter to me, and Citron really delivers. They also offer reserved, gated access garage parking (at the time this review was written, $125 a month) but the garage is located directly underneath the building, so you can elevator straight up to your apartment. We don't currently take advantage of this, but it's nice to know that we have a secure place to park should we want it. There are also free, secure bike cages in the same garage to lock up your bicycles. There's also a pool and lounge area. Free coffee in the lobby is an added bonus! Online portal for residents, so paying rent and submitting maintenance work order requests are all in one place and can be taken care of 24/7. If you're an Amazon.com fanatic like me, and you get packages delivered weekly, you'll love the email they send you when you have a package waiting. Let's get to the price. Do what we did; Google every apartment building in the Silver Spring area... you'll narrow it down to six or seven candidates. Then read the reviews and let them speak for themselves. The Citron is probably one of the top two most expensive choices, but for us, it is worth EVERY PENNY. I would rather pay a little extra every month for peace of mind that I'm living in a safe, clean, quality building where my maintenance requests are completed in less than 24 hours and the leasing office knows me by first name. Seriously, if you're on the fence, just go check it out. We'll be neighbors in a few weeks. read more

Horrible experience, financial nightmare. Horrible move in condition (dog chewed cabinets, torn rug, dirty), issues never fixed despite constant requests. Experiences verbally abuse scenario with employee, almost called police. Staff remained working. Continuous issues with changing payment systems and failure to pay court notices on doors, despite automatic confirmed payments. Ongoing issues with utility payments, charged every month despite setting up separate account. Paid electric for 12 months to Citron, received receipt. Moved and PEPCO sent 500+bill to collections, Citron never paid. Won't answer calls or emails (manager, head office), now dealing with consumer complaints. Time consuming and exhausting, had to move due to so many insane issues. Can't get call back or response to collection issue, nightmare organization. read more

We if didn't just buy a house recently, I would see no reason to leave The Citron. I absolutely love living here. My fiancé and I have been living here for about 2 years and have enjoyed every minute of it. Moving from Miami and knowing I wasn't going to have a car, I was nervous about moving to Maryland at first. The location of the Citron was the perfect transition spot to a new area. All the shops are walking distance and couldn't be any more convenient. Having whole-foods right across the street made grocery shopping a breeze. My walk to the metro station is about 10 mins so my commute to work is better than I first anticipated. The staff at the citron is so personable and helpful. They're always sure to take care of any of your needs and get back to you at a timely manner. I have to say, I'm really going to miss Jeffery, as he has been the best concierge I've ever had. The apartment itself is clean, fresh, and new. Never had an issue with any appliances or electrical/pluming issues. Our apartment faces the courtyard and gets plenty of sunlight. Surprisingly you hear very little, to no street noise in the courtyard. I was a bit worried I would be able to hear all the music coming from downtown, but once inside I was pleasantly surprised. The amenities in the building are great. Gym is a little small, but has all the necessities. Pool is small but relaxing, but my favorite is the entertaining/grill area. Great for guests and bbqs. And if you don't have cable or wifi, head down to the lobby and lounge by the tvs. They offer free wifi and coffee. Overall I would give the building the 5 of 5. When comparing location, cleanliness, price, and even square footage, the citron still beats everything else in downtown (trust me I did a whole lot of research before moving). The location is quite, close to the park and bike trails, but also close enough to shops and food. The building is clean, welcoming, and has a nice modern feel. Nothing in downtown comes close to the Citron. I'm so happy with my decision to have moved to the here. I will seriously miss living here. read more

This is about the best living experience I've ever had. Beautiful apartments with luxury finishes. The common spaces are stylishly, modern and inviting to all residents. The staff is very professional and incredibly nice. Crystal and Natasha helped us sign our lease before the building even opened and have taken the time to get to know us even after signing our lease. The building location is the best in town, just 1 block away from the downtown strip on Ellsworth, but also tucked away from the hustle and bustle and easy access to main roads via Spring Street. The apartments are comparable in price to other Silver Spring complex's, but it's worth every penny! I LOVE CITRON!! read more

Beautiful building. The lobby architecture and interior design is almost enough reason to move in. The "mancave" media room is choice, the pool and firepit are gorgeous, and the gym is clean and classy-looking, if not terribly well-supplied with lots of machinery. The staff is ace all around. Our apartment specifically is a bit smalll, especially for almost $2,000/ mo., but it's a gorgeous apartment with a balcony the size of a second bedroom. The reason I gave four stars instead of five is the parking situation. Now, granted, I'm from Texas, and the whole state is practically a parking lot. It's a driver's state. I realize things are different here in Maryland, but if you asked someone to pay almost $200/ mo. to park in your apartment complex, you'd be laughed at, and would have no tennants, no matter HOW swanky your place is. It's just not heard of. And if you park on the street outside, during the day, there are rabid Meter Readers waiting to pounce on you with a fine. Your only free option is to play a bit of a game with the Parking Garage across the way. If you park there, and leave before 7am, or after 8pm, you never have to pay. But as far as freely having your car at your dispoal, nah, not really an option. Still, I'd recommend Citron to just about anyone. read more

The leasing office was so helpful. Even though I didn't rent there I can honestly say they gave me the best recommendations.

We love it here. Very nice staff, beautiful lobby and amenities, right in downtown Silver Spring. LOVE IT.

We absolutely loved the location of Citron Apartments. It is walking distance from CVS, Whole Foods and so many restaurants to choose from. When we had the huge snow storm i was still able to go to Whole Foods to get some ingredients i needed to bake a cake and i loved the convenience of it. The apartments are beautiful inside, and the party room is gorgeous. I used to have play dates with my daughter and other children that live in the apartment complex. I definitely recommend living here due to location and the amenities inside the complex and outside of it! read more

Ok, first off I want to start off by saying the staff (a mix of old AND new when the management was switching hands so not ALL of the new staff had a hand in this BUT the blonde on desk, not naming names, is the ONLY one that was still here along with the maintenance guys) when I did this! I was cooking myself a meal around the holidays and I had a dishwasher on the end of the bottom row of cabinetry and the end panel of the cabinetry is SO close it leaked constantly! While I was cooking (food prep) I had put up a load (this was like the 10th load it had leaked on regardless how heavy and they had NOT suggested anything except NOT to overload it! This time they came up and FINALLY did more and shaved down the sides around the molding to give the door a bit more "breathing room", told me from now on just put your weight on the door and vacuumed up a massive amount of water for like the 5th out of those 10 times with their water vac! I went back to cooking and as a "thank you" to them I made them some of my spaghetti sauce and spaghetti which I first gave to the maintenance guys as they had done way more than that (they weren't on staff and so I left it with some African American woman that is no longer there) and went out after eating since I had an appointment. The lady told me she would get it to them and for a while she was secretive about whether they got it and I had also told her she could have some if there were leftovers. They were all, yeah uh, we got it and we liked and then it turned into no we never ate it and it got lost in the storage room in their office somewhere which is NOT that big and only the person that put it back there (that same girl) could find it! She was all, yeah look for it eventually and NEVER DID! Then, eventually I found out after OVER THREE MONTHS of the run around of where are my Tupperwares not caring if they even ate the stuff in it I finally found out they actually threw it out and never had one bite Tupperwares AND all! I lost like $20 worth of plastic containers and silverware that they ALSO "lost" (turned out they had none of it and were just playing games)! That was about a year ago. Most recently, my key to my apartment was no longer locking my apartment BUT it was working on every other communal space in the building (the den with the video games, the gym, front door, etc.) on the Sunday of the same week I am writing this! Apparently, only ONE guy on staff could remedy the situation and they did not work weekends! So, they gave me a master key to open and shut my door on Sunday and yin the books a work order for Monday! The guy NEVER showed on Monday and I had like zero food in my fridge and I couldn't go out due to this security nightmare! I had called downstairs 3 times Monday and had NOT gotten through and they eventually were closed for the day! I reached two different people about 3 hours apart after being told by the blonde she would send him right up at 10 and the guy that could deal with it not showing and then I had to talk someone on desk again and couldn't get to anyone until 3 hours later and the first question he had the audacity to ask me was when do you plan on leaving to go to the store! That does NOT matter! When there is such a security risk going on with someone's place they should be able to get it dealt with right away and there should NOT be only ONE person on staff who can handle it who does NOT work weekends! I don't know if that key they gave me was pre-coded or not but I assume not as I saw the person getting it for me taking it to a computer and possibly putting in the code for my room as it worked on nothing else and she claimed not knowing what it would work on! I mean seriously, if she can get something as simple as a "master key" as she put it to ONLY work for my door then she should be able to fix the key for my door and if not then not making something like that first priority before all other maintenance issues so a person knows they have their security protected in the complex should be at the forefront of their concern! Not saying my issue is ANYMORE important than anyone else's but still when someone has a security issue like that and no one knows what goes through the building then it can be a security risk for all if someone catches you not locking your door if a "guest" sees and walks right in! How safe would you feel surrounded by the aftermath of such an incident!?! Also, to ask when do you plan on leaving after letting the security go over a day when I should be able to feel safe enough to come and go as I please is just inexcusable and appalling! Why does it matter when!?! When it should matter when you all deal with it to help make your tenants feel secure in their ability(ies) to live their lives as quickly as possible and not lose more of their ability to work and pay for that overpriced place that won't help them when it REALLY counts and ONLY with the mundane stuff!?! read more

I have lived here for 8 months now. Love everything about it except for the noise. I can hear every move the person in the aprtment above me makes - not an exaggeration. This person isn't doing anything out of the ordinary, it just seems like there is no sound insulation at all between floors and it's made worse by the hardwood floors. Also, my apartment overlooks the pool area and it's like a fish bowl. So the sound by the pool area is also very prominent. When people have parties out there it's like I'm part of it whether I want to be or not. If you don't mind a lot of noise, then everything else about it is very nice. read more
