    Desk damaged

PackRat moved and stored our goods on schedule but greatly underestimated the number of pods we would need. PackRat's "Professional Packers & Movers" partner, Simple Moving Labor, sent out team members who were not trained in how to pack and load our personal belongings into moving pods. They damaged or destroyed over 15 items due to neglect, carelessness, and ignorance in the manner of loading the pods. I described to the team members where all the goods to be loaded were located. I then showed them where all the extra boxes, straps, tape, blankets, bubble wrap, and shrink wrap was, so it could to be used for protecting my belongings, but most was never used. It wasn't until after the pods were finally delivered and unloaded 3 months later, that we found all the damaged/destroyed items. We took pictures before, during and after the unloading process. Through these pictures, and seeing the way things were packed into the pods, it was determined that all damage was due to the improper packing and loading of the goods. None of the damaged/destroyed items were protected properly. Most of our lamp shades were totally destroyed because they were just stacked together and then rolled up into a blanket, not put into a box, and shoved into a pod. A large, 3 piece wall unit set had one of the units damaged because it was the only piece that was not protected by a blanket. Multiple floor lamps were damaged or destroyed because they were just shoved into any open space with no protection of any type around them. Several other items were damaged due to excess weight put on top of them, again with no protection. All damage was directly due to the manner in which the goods were packed, loaded, and not protected in the pods. All of the items we packed ourselves came through with NO damage whatsoever, because we took the extra time and care to pack them correctly for the move. DO NO USE the partners PackRat give you to help pack or load the pods. Be sure to check out any referral reviews thru sites like Google, the BBB, and Yelp. Do not trust the referral website or Facebook reviews.

The reviews look real, they're well-rated and really close to home so I give them a call. Charlie at the office takes in all my information including details about each location and a basic inventory of key pieces of furniture in addition to packed boxes. They check in a couple of days beforehand and we are good to go! Day of the move, Malik, Hunter and Tyrell show up in a fairly large truck. They help me break down some furniture (bed frames) and try to leave as much intact for the move. For my 2 bedroom apartment it takes maybe 2 1/2 hours to bring it all down. Unfortunately I live on the 3rd floor which slows things down. On the destination side it takes a little over an hour to unload which includes re-assembling stuff. Didn't find many/any dings on the walls or furniture, they wrap the edges for safety. I tip the team and say a huge thank you for this big step forward in my move. Overall I was very happy with their service, it was a little under $900 for the 5 mile move but heck, I sure couldn't have done it on my own. While I was concerned about some of the negative reviews I saw online, my experience was top-notch for the move!

Raleigh Moving Company knocked it out of the park from start to finish and I highly, highly recommend them! I was looking at several moving companies in the Triangle for a long-distance move across multiple state lines, and after speaking with Sapphira, I knew Raleigh Moving Company would be my choice. She was so professional and informative, and I was really impressed when she told me that the company employs their movers full-time, and that many of the movers have worked for the company for years. The company is easy to get ahold of when you have questions, and everyone there is communicative and helpful. Sapphira was so helpful in coordinating logistics and answering complicated questions, and was so gracious and flexible when I had to change my move date. We also did a virtual walk-through the day before my move, so that she could be sure the team was fully ready for everything the following day. My movers were Travis and Wilson. Wow -- what a team!!! They were so professional, so courteous, and very experienced. It was clear that they really knew what they were doing, and that they were invested in the success of my move and in making sure I was happy with everything. They worked so hard and went above and beyond in multiple ways to help, and to make sure that everything was done correctly and to my specifications during both the move out and the move in. They were thoughtful and careful in how they approached everything. Because of their hard work, hustle, care, and expertise, what could have been a stressful couple of days was smooth and easy! And it was such a pleasant experience to work with a team who were not only so experienced and efficient, but also really nice guys. This is the best moving company I've ever worked with, hands-down. Thank you all for such a great experience!

During the move, multiple crew members disappeared for periods exceeding one hour without explanation. One mover took particular notice of my wife's jewelry, watching closely as she handled it that morning. Her jewelry -- including pieces of deep family significance passed down through generations -- was secured in our locked vehicle with no signs of forced entry and driven directly to our new home. At the destination, the same mover who had observed the jewelry that morning offered multiple times to carry the specific bag containing it into the house. My wife placed the bag in our bedroom closet. At some point during the remainder of the move, we were outside the home. The following morning the jewelry was gone. When we reported this to CEO William Saunders, he stated -- verbatim -- "we have never had anything like this happen and this could ruin us." He requested we not contact police for 24 hours, stating he wanted to speak with his crew first, and indicated he had a good idea who may have been responsible based on issues that person had "when he was young." We honored his request. The items were not returned. My wife spoke with Mr. Saunders separately and independently, and his statements to her were consistent with what he told me. Mr. Saunders later disputed making those earlier statements. A police report has been filed. The investigation is active.

We chose Safe & Sound because of the company's stellar Yelp reviews and its average Yelp rating when compared to other moving companies in the Triangle. Safe & Sound seemed like a safe bet and I'm happy to report that it was. We moved from a two-bedroom apartment to a two-bedroom condo. We added on: (1) a stop to drop off furniture at my parents' house in High Point, North Carolina and (2) haul-away of some items in Atlanta. The total cost for everything was $4,075, broken down as follows: * 2 movers + equipment, loading in Chapel Hill (1 hour, minimum) - $155 * 2 movers + equipment, loading in Chapel Hill (0.5 hour, additional time required) - $77.50 * 2 movers + equipment, unloading in High Point (1 hour, minimum) - $155 * 2 movers + equipment, unloading in Atlanta (1 hour, minimum) - $155 * Deposit for travel and truck - $50 * Haul-away (junk removal) of double mattress, double box spring, bed frame, one standard dining room chair, and torchiere floor lamp - $125 * Remainder of balance for travel - $2,875 * Additional cost/payment - $182.50 * Tip for mover 1 - $150 * Tip for mover 2 - $150 A $485 total deposit was due upfront to secure the reservation. We asked for the movers to show up at a specific date and time. We paid the $485 total deposit 26 days in advance with a credit card. The rest ($3,590) was paid via multiple Zelle transactions after we arrived in Atlanta. In hindsight, I think I may have overpaid $50 because the $50 deposit for the travel and truck was included in our $485 total deposit. I believe that same $50 was included in the remainder of the balance for travel. In other words, I think the $2,875 above should have been $2,825, but I could be wrong. Also, in my stress and exhaustion from the move, I forgot what the additional cost/payment of $182.50 was for. It made sense at the time, when I signed the form ("Uniform Household Goods Bill of Lading - 35 Miles or Less") after the move was complete. I was just happy it was over and that my wife, the movers, and I all made it safely to Atlanta in three separate vehicles on moving day. I do think all of the costs could have been communicated more clearly in writing for our understanding. Money aside, as for the move itself, it generally went well. We scheduled a 9:00-10:00am arrival window for the movers. This was on a Wednesday. We were packed and ready to go at 9am. Unfortunately, the movers were delayed and showed up around 10:45am. They arrived in a 26-foot white Penske truck. It's my understanding they rented it that morning. While it was overkill for the amount of stuff we had, I believe it was the best available truck at the time. It looked new. The movers were Hamza (lead) and Sula. They were great. Very kind and polite. These were young guys in their early 20s. They both wore Safe & Sound T-shirts. They worked hard, quickly and carefully wrapping and protecting our queen mattress and furniture with stretch wrap and blankets, and moving all sorts of heavy boxes and miscellaneous items (e.g., my awkward and heavy standing desk system, computer monitor, office chair mat, torchiere floor lamp, vacuum cleaner) from our third-floor apartment with no elevator on a hot summer day. At the loading site, we treated them to cold Gatorades. It took them about 1.5 hours to do the load in Chapel Hill. We left Chapel Hill around roughly 12:30pm. Hamza ran the show. We made it clear which items were to be dropped off first in High Point and which items were going all the way to Atlanta. No issues there. My parents were very happy with Hamza and Sula's work at the unload in High Point. The two made it to Atlanta around 10:00pm and the unload in Atlanta took less than an hour. Long day. My wife and I made it to Atlanta earlier - around 7:30pm. Unlike Hamza and Sula, we did not stop in High Point. We wanted to get to Atlanta before them so we could get the condo ready for the unload. It worked out. Hamza told me they were going to try and drive back to Raleigh/Cary that night! Only one of our items, a shoe rack, was damaged. All things considered, not a big deal so I didn't bring it up. I can remember three other moves I did with three other moving companies and one item was damaged in each move. It happens. For the haul-away, I only mentioned the mattress and box spring. I added on the other items when I saw them in Atlanta. They didn't charge me extra for that, which I appreciate and must mention here. I sent the tips directly and individually to Hamza and Sula for a job well done. As for scheduling and payment, my wife and I communicated with Jaber (a.k.a. Omar), the owner of Safe & Sound Moving Company. Jaber was on top of everything and quick to respond via Yelp messaging, text messaging, and phone calls. Thank you, Jaber, Hamza, and Sula!
