A service light came on my car just days before I was to take an out of state drive. I'm new in town so I asked a few people what car repair shop was not only good but honest. 0500 Repair was recommended so I contacted them. They provided a loaner car so I could drive to and from work. I also received texts letting me know the status of the repair. I called to get an estimate for a break change, the guy said I had to coke in to get it but not to worry that it was free. So I brought it in, he said that would be $900 to get it done which is insane! So I told him it wasn't worth it and I'd just do it myself, he gave me a spill about how we don't want your breaks going out and having any harm come to me trying to sell me on it. I was able to do it myself for $200 in a couple hours. But the worst part was they charged me $50 for the free inspection because I didn't do any service with them. What a sham! read more

My cars camshaft sensor needs to be replaced so I called this place to see how much they would charge. I spoke to Chris and when I told him what I needed he laughed and acted like I had no clue what I was talking about. I told him that I already ran a diagnostic but he proceeded to act like that didn't matter and said that "normally when they have a problem they just bring it in with the check engine light on because they don't know what they're doing". He said that I needed to bring it in and pay $150 for them to simply run the diagnostic(which I've already done) and then they can go from there. I don't know if he was being rude simply because I'm a girl, but I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

My daughter's car broke down and she had to leave it in Rexburg. Chris and Nathan were so great. We had just bought the car in Grand Junction 2 months before from Grand Valley Auto. I believe they knew the car had problems cause they really pushed hard for us to buy the warranty. But... Long story short Chris fixed was they thought was the problem but the car needed a new engine. In the end Chris took care of us. The car broke down again in St George and Chris and his crew were willing to help with anything that they could have caused. This is a very honest mechanic. TERRIBLE SERVICE! NEVER GO THERE! About 2 months ago, my car broke down and was brought to 0500 Mechanics. They tried charging me for things that didn't need to be done. They up charged me for replacing a clutch and couldn't even have enough knowledge to finish the job. Before returning home, I heard unsettling noises coming from my car after they had finished the job. I brought the car back in and they dismissed me and assured me that I would be safe to drive 6 hours on a "fixed" car. Still hearing noises and scared my car would stop at any moment from the noises, I brought it in to a home car mechanic that fixed the job that they failed to finish. He fixed something that he thought was the problem, but later after being brought back again found out that there was a bolt loose on the tire and that could have jeopardized my safety on the car ride home. I could have had that tire fall off because of how loose it was and lead me into a crash. Though it was a small problem, it could have led to catastrophic results with my safety. I had to pay an extra $500 after paying an absurd amount on the car. When confronted that they left my safety in check and that we had to pay me more money on the car, they left us with a "generous" $67. Not only did they not finish the job, but left me with a car that wasn't road worthy. If you want to spend more money and have terrible service than go here! read more

This happened several years ago, but I feel like these guys still need to be held accountable for being the swindlers they are: My car was having some electrical issues, and they looked at it, determined that it was a faulty light bulb, and replaced it without ever consulting with me. They charged me over $120 to replace a bulb, and the problem still wasn't resolved (ended up being the alternator, which I replaced myself). I cannot emphasize this enough: DO NOT GO HERE. The people of Rexburg are, in general, kind and honest. This business does not represent that hospitality in any way. I have been to many places to fix my truck or my car and no where has been as helpful as 0500. They are quick with their work and describe everything in their costs. I have never been "screwed" over or felt taken advantage of. This is my mechanic shop here in Rexburg if I ever need one. My name is Ryan V, not sure why Yelp says my name is Rob but I'll fix it later. I've always done my own work on my cars, but health problems have put a stop to that. Was nervous sending my cars to a mechanic due to its age and value to me. Even though my car was 30 years old they didn't have a problem working on it. Best part of the experience was the honesty. While pushing it into or out of the shop by hand they pushed in the tailgate and caused a slight dent. Without hesitation Chris said he'd make it right and got it repaired and repainted at a local body shop. They have the quickest turnover rate in town, even removing the transmission and repairing it took them less than 4 days. They've worked on 3 of my cars and I wouldn't trust anyone else in town like I do these guys. No waiting for weeks with no calls. Professionals will always be more expensive than a random guy with a pickup full of tools, heck I've been that guy with the pickup full of tools, but these guys are worth it. Im usually the go to car guy for my neighbors, friends, and family and I've seen places in town that really try to take advantage of the young college students and outsiders who don't know better, One mechanic charged 3 hours labor to a friend just to remove the distributor cap. Terrible experience! They were pushy with me when I saw they were asking a ridiculous price for a service they thought needed to be added on. They charged me $50 for an unnecessary check that yielded nothing because "they felt like it was needed". I had told them it wasn't necessary but they insisted they wouldn't do anything else including running the diagnosis I paid for till it was done then when I told them I would be doing the repair myself instead of accepting their add on, they said they wouldn't do any more work on my car if I did it myself (threatening!?) In the end, They pretended to know more than they could tell me and were very unprofessional in the way they acted like i didn't know anything. Go to a more professional shop. read more

I would recommend 0500 Mechanics to anyone looking for auto repairs! I called about a problem with my AC and they had it fixed within a few hours. They offer rides to and from their shop so you don't have to rely on others or wait around for hours. They were very upfront and honest about the cost and let me know exactly what they were doing and why the price was what it was. They informed me of all the repairs they wanted to do before carrying through instead of surprising me with the bill. I was also surprised to receive a message from them the next day as they were checking in to make sure my car was still working great. Nate was working with My wife and I on her new vehicle that was having some engine issues. He communicated with us throughout the whole process and was helpful the whole way. Other people complaining about prices or bad service are just upset that their car wasnt working. Nothing is free and cars are expensive. These guys are great and know their stuff. They only charge what is fair with the labor involved. If you have never worked on a car before then you will think the prices are high. But they arent. Try opening your hood when your engine is ticking and figure out the problem? That is what I thought. This stuff takes a lot of time and attention. Totally recommend this place. read more

These guys are awesome! My Ford Escape wouldn't start and so I had it towed to their shop on Saturday night. They were able to get to it first thing Monday morning. Nate kept me up to date on the car. Found out it was an electrical issue and were able to get it fixed and back on the road by that afternoon. Will definitely use these guys again. We have a camper van and the van wouldn't start when we were leaving our campground. Struggled for days trying to line up towing and repair shop. Many repairs shops had a week or more waiting list. Finally got a mobile mechanic to start it but it needed a fuel pump and we barely made it to the repair shop. They took us right away and stuck with it until the repair was done. Not sure if the price was right because we were not in a position to shop around, but looking on Google - I think it was in the ball park. I work as a mechanical engineer and so I understood the problem going in, and I know that working on these converted vans can be challenging. If there where a 0 star option I'd choose that. I will say that their customer service was decent, but charging $1300 for changing a radiator, radiator hoses, and flushing the coolant system is ridiculous. They made the job sound like it'd take a lot longer than it actually did and a lot more difficult than it actually was, they oversell their work. They had it all done in 3 hours and I was on the road. I appreciate a good mechanic, but $500 in parts and 3 hours of work isn't worth $1300 in my opinion. Don't ever stop at this place, they are rude and they are a scam. My son took his truck by to get an estimate to get a repair done, they quoted him 3000.00. He called me and when I started to really question the mechanic he could answer the questions. I have LOTS of vehicles and I have lots of friends who are mechanics so they cant pull one over on me. I told my son to get back there and pick up his truck, they were very rude when he showed up. I got a recommendation on another shop from my mechanic friend and took it there. Super nice people, and for 600 including parts he was all fixed up. My son shared this experience with his friends and that is when the stories started and how they have all been scammed by these guys. read more

Another mechanic wanted to charge me $50 for a diagnostic test, even though I knew the problem was coming from my struts that they replaced a few a months ago because that's when the problem started. I took it the these guys, the owner drove around with me, took it back to the shop, lifted it up, tightened a few things up, had me drive around again to see if the noise was gone and it was. It was a simple fix, free of charge. Not expecting every visit to the mechanic will be free but I'm definitely going back to 0500 Mechanics. read more

This is the worst mechanics shop I've ever been to. They will charge you $100 minimum just for walking in the door. I can see why they had an opening right after Christmas because no one in their right minds would go to this place. Chris the man behind the counter seems to be a pusher when it comes to spending all your life savings. They asked me if I could do some work I said yes before it really hit me what a bad deal they were giving me ....I called back within a minute and they claimed they had already started...I call BS. The mechanic shop seems to prey on poor college kids and women who don't know too much about cars. They charged me $550 for a new thermostat and to flush the coolant. These things can be done so easily at home for less than $50. I just got the biggest rip off of the year. Thank You 0500 mechanics for your honesty. Not happy with these guys at all. I went in with a new engine rattle. The guy immediately told me that the problem was not fixable and would require an entire new engine (true), but then told me it would be $3000 to do the job. He then told me that it wouldn't even be worth fixing and tried to get me to sell the car to him for $400. Red flag there. If it's not worth fixing then why do you want it so bad? Then he tried to use scare tactics and told me the car was likely to break down any moment. I left and went to Jason's automotive in Rexburg for a second opinion. Jason agreed that it would need a new engine eventually and he would do it for $2000 instead of $3000. He also told me that it was probably going to be quite a while before it actually broke down. He didn't try to pressure me into doing the job right away at all. Now it's been 8 months and the engine is still running. Glad I didn't sell my car to 0500 mechanics for practically nothing. 500 Mechanics commented and said they have no record of repairing my car. That's true, because I left after that experience and never went back. I'm sure they have some decent mechanics, but they shouldn't allow any of their staff to try to swindle their customers into selling a car for scrap prices when they are still running well enough to keep driving. read more

After the SUV made a rare noise and the engine had the auto shaking we pulled over to check what the manual said. We followed the instructions but the shaking continued. As we were visiting Yellowstone National Park and being stopped by Old Faithful, we HAD to be towed by the park tow company to the edge outside of park. The auto repair shop that had it taken to that night didn't even know it was in the yard. When I called in the morning the guy said we are real busy. So I had it towed to 0500 Auto service ( per AAA insurance). Chris was professional and said he would look at it give me an answer. Once he had SUV there he checked the code, told me he would have to order part and would have it ready the next day ( a Saturday). They gave us a ride to car rental company. The next day we got a call from Chris while we were having breakfast that the car was ready. He actually fixed the problem and a couple of other things we requested. 0500 charges for repairs and parts they didn't do!!! Don't go here!!! I had my kids car repaired here while they were attending college. They were to replace the CV joints on a Jeep GC. I was charged for both sides and only one side was repaired. I discovered this when they were home and there were still issues. The side they did repair, they cross threaded one of the bolts (you can visually see the bolt head is not seated flush). I had my kid take it back when they returned to school, after the holiday break and they did resolve it by replacing the other side, but they didn't address the cross threaded bolt. Before I was aware of the shoddy practices at 0500, my son was visiting his siblings at college and brakes were needed on his car. I referred him to 0500. I told him that they would take care of him. He was charged for pads and rotors on all wheels. Everything was good for a while but he started to have brake problems again. Took it to my local shop and found out that the pads were new, but the rotors were not replaced. Still the original GM part and totally worn out. I verified I was charged for all rotors. I was upset, but he had driven past the miles the warranty allows. 0500 didn't believe me when they were contacted. Do not go here for car repairs, especially if you are out of state and cannot verify they did the work and put the parts on that you paid for. This is my first yelp review ever. I and my daughter trusted them. Once I can see a mistake being made, but twice? It is my experience that they have issues at this shop and the front end does not know what the back end is doing. I do not feel they can be trusted and I cannot recommend them as business worthy of any positive comments or my continued patronage. If I were you I'd go somewhere else. Wasn't happy with the service the first time I went in. We went back against our better judgement and of course it was a bad experience. They tried to charge us triple what any other place would and tried to scare us into replacing parts that we know don't need replacing for another 3+ years. I went in this place last year to try it out with one of those cards they have the annoying guy come around and sell you door to door(waste of money). I tried to get a free oil change and a free belt check, which was squealing so I knew that had to be replaced. I also told him about a reving problem while in idle. I could tell that the head guy was a not a nice guy to his employees and was just irritated. He comes back in and tells me that I need to replace my clutch and flywheel, it was too worn out, which I new it was wearing out. I asked for a quote and he overpriced it at 1200 bucks. Yeah right! He ended up charging me for the diagnostic, which they never found out what was wrong, even when I came back and asked him about it because I had forgotten when I had left and the head guy drove it with me, but he couldn't notice anything. I left and vowed never to come back. Over priced, and I could tell he was just trying to get money out of me, probably because I tried to get free services. And btw I replace my clutch for less than 600 bucks including flywheel resurfacing at the Proshop. I will never go here again. read more
