It's a reasonably priced hotel option and is a popular choice for many visitors to Hong Kong. The immediate pro is that it is extremely close to public transit with several MTR exits at every turn. Grabbing a taxi along any of the major roadways: Lockhart Rd, Jaffe Rd, or even Hennessy Rd are all one block away. The rooms themselves are just like HK apartments: tiny. They are not for the faint of heart and even a double bed room feels like a small college dorm studio than a hotel room. This is mainly for the deluxe and superior rooms, which vary between 200-205 sq ft. This doesn't leave much room when factoring the bathrooms, which also feel very tight. Big spenders can opt for the larger suites, which are more than double the size of regular rooms at nearly 470 sq ft. It can accommodate up to 3 people semi-comfortably. The beds could be comfier and are all twins or King beds. There's nothing in between. Amenities are limited since it is a compact, boutique hotel. This means there is no spa, fitness room, business centre, swimming pool or any restaurant onsite. This is not a problem, especially if one intends on being on being out and about in HK, rather than spending time at the hotel.

However the hotel itself is small and quiet and it is easy to slip away from the neon lights when you're ready for bed. The rooms themselves are small, but bright with big windows, great air-con and the typical amnieties of mini bar etc. It was a little disconcerting when we first arrived as the wall adjoining the bathroom was made of glass (sharing with a family member!), but thankfully a curtain can be pulled down. Still you are in very close quarters and can hear everything! On the plus side the shower pressure is fantastic, the place is very clean, and new towels daily if desired. On the negative side, the cleaners seemed to want to clean our room at 930am every morning, though when told to come back later they were very polite and apologetic. Also we were on a non smoking floor and the area outside the lift often smelled like someone had been chain smoking. My favorite thing about the whole place though was the free wifi. Though typical in Hong Kong, I've stayed in a number of hotels around the world and always found it insanely frustrating how even the free wifi made you constantly log in with your credentials, or only allowed minimum devices connected, or was dead slow. This has auto connect after the first day and was super fast!! Fantastic!! Over all, small and not a place to stay if spending a lot of time in the hotel, but 100% recommend if staying in the city. They did not allow anyone to check in early. They told us 2pm- which seems silly to have dozens of families waiting around until 2pm to get to their rooms. There were so many of us in the lobby waiting. At around 140pm I felt that was long enough and asked if my room was ready- she said yes. The room was really small- a 4 person family room had two double bunks- a fridge but no microwave. If you have a lot of devices to charge, you'll need to bring an outlet adapter, otherwise, you have one plug in the bathroom and one plug at the desk. Both outlets only allow for you to plug in items with two prongs. FYI- if staying long without an adapter you can buy an adapter in the temple street night market for about a US dollar. The beds are super firm. I was fine with it but it is unusually firm- firmest bed I've ever experienced. The breakfast buffet is not worth it - imo. It had very little options for protein. The room was clean and you're provided with disposable slippers. We stored 10 luggages with them before check in and when we checked out. It appeared to be secure. The location was perfect and there was always a taxi at the stand ready to take you out. Almost all staff spoke or understood English so that was convenient for me. The housekeeping staff did not though- but I didn't need anything but toilet paper so no big deal. I'd stay here again .

They have currency exchange at the lobby, which is very convenient if you like to gradually exchange your money per day. The Flamingo bar has a large choice of drinks and you get 15% if you are staying in the hotel! Internet / WiFi is EXCELLENT everywhere in the room and hotel. Kudos to that! Oh! There is a door by the main lobby that will connect to a bus station! The reason I gave them 4 stars is because they don't have amenities (gym nor pool) and because one day I was charged $50 HKD for a cup of lemon Lipton tea. Not specialty tea, not afternoon tea time, nothing special. I just wanted a cup of tea and that's what the manager said it was the price (plus the 10% service charge it came to 55). I am not cheap, but honestly that was overpriced and really upset me. I just wanted to leave it in writing.

The room windows were very large and with Hong Kong the way it is, the view is almost always (in Wanchai) other buildings. All in all it was a wonderful experience. Surprised that the room price remained high in spite of low utilization, even higher than Lanson Place which is a bit more luxurious. The hotel has a really nice Chinese restaurant downstairs serving good dim sum.

The building's renovation over the last decade has modernized this 4 star property, which is run by the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong. Overall, the beds are comfy, the amenities are solid, and the hotel is an excellent value. If location is everything, then this quiet stretch of Waterloo Rd is a nice departure from Nathan Rd, which is just around the corner. It is also 2 minutes from the nearest MTR station (Yau Ma Tei) and stone's throw away from Dundas St and the Ladies Market. The rooms are spacious and modern, which is a far cry from many adjacent hotels on the Kowloon and HK island side. I'm a fan of the larger beds, which were also fairly comfy and the rooms have actual views of the city and beyond. Shower and bathroom facilities were also not a shoebox, which I very much appreciated. From an amenities standpoint, it's quite generous. They have a hotel rooftop pool, along with a 24 hour fitness center, and pretty strong WiFi. Several years ago they would equip every guest with a complimentary smartphone for local calls and internet, which was unheard of. Some good news for the environmentally conscious: It is also eco-certified. As a result, they will no longer offer disposable plastic tableware or plastic bottled water. All guests are encouraged to bring their own personal toiletries as toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc. will not be provided. Where they fall short is the dining options, which have been mediocre overall. City Cafe is their all-day buffet option, the Balcony is their in-house Cantonese + Dim Sum spot, Amazing Bakery is the grab-n-go option, and the Amazing is their overly fancy but subpar haute cuisine establishment. Eating off property is far more exciting (#1), but this is to be expected. Lastly the service has been good but not great. They could certainly be more efficient for check-in/check-out times and seem to be understaffed. Concierge is not exactly up to par with the luggage handling or recommendations, but this is not a a deal breaker. All in all, this place gets a big thumbs up. They have shuttle buses that runs from 10am - 5pm to different locations in the city. Unfortunately, our arriving flight was after 5pm but we easily were able to take the A21. Their buses run hourly, but wait in the lobby 20+ min prior to the hour to board the bus...the bus promptly leaves on the dot and waits for no one. In the room, they provide complimentary water bottles per person and coffee/tea. There's also a minifridge and no microwave. If you have a choice, opt for a higher floor. I stayed on the 25th floor and the view was awesome. The best part of this place was that they gave you a fully charged smartphone (per room) that you can use as a phone or as a hotspot! Just set a profile and change the hotspot password and you're good to go!

Pros: -Professional, efficient, and safe baggage storage for as long as you need, which is super helpful if you have an early arrival or late departure. -Clean rooms, comfortable beds, more than enough pillows, and complimentary water provided daily. There are also combs, toothbrushes, toothpaste, hair caps, and other toiletries available at no additional cost if needed. -The property is located is within a few blocks of the Jordan MTR station, making transportation around Hong Kong very easy -There are tons of restaurants conveniently located inside the hotel, including Yat Tung Heen, which is an affordable one Michelin star dim sum restaurant. -Staff was friendly and welcoming at every interaction. Cons: -There was a slight sewage smell inside our bathroom in our 2nd room. It wasn't constant and it wasn't overpowering, but it was definitely noticeable. We didn't notice this in our 1st room during the first 4 nights. -The rooms are on the smaller side. We struggled to find space for both our suitcases and the sliding door to our closet was broken in our second room, disabling us from storing anything there. -Not sure if this was just us but the lights were difficult to figure out in the room. We were so busy sightseeing that we didn't have enough time to check out the gym or wellness areas! The room was aesthetically designed, clean & comfortable. Free filtered drinking water is provided in a glass bottle in the room, which the hotel can refill for you daily. The location is super convenient - very close to both the Yau Ma Tei and Jordan MTR stops. There's a 7-Eleven right across the street from the elevators and plenty of nearby eateries within a walking distance. Not to mention the many options on the ground floor food hall, the buffet and the dim sum restaurant located inside the hotel! Temple Street Night Market is also less than 5 minutes walking distance. Check in took us a while (there was a long line). When we checked in our room was not ready yet, but reception was able to store our luggage for us so we could go out. Love that they also have a focus on environmental sustainability- little details like providing glass water containers & bamboo toothbrushes.

Don't let the exterior fool you, this hotel is still worthy of its 5 star status, where the rooms are super contemporary and modern and run for anywhere from $500-$6000 USD a night. Whether it's a high floor with city or harbour view, it's a guaranteed comfortable stay. The bed is so comfy that I wouldn't want to leave the room either. While some folks enjoy the skyline view from The Peak (#1), I think it could be argued the more impressive view is directly from here. The panoramic views of the breathtaking skyscraping cluster of Hong Kong is perfectly on display from the Kowloon waterfront, which makes for all the reasons TST is the place to be.
