2.5/5, +.5 for service
Sportful Garden is one of the larger chain dim sum restaurants in Hong Kong. They have several branches, but this review is for the Wan Chai branch on Fleming Road.
The restaurant is located on I believe the 3rd floor of a commercial building (escalators lead you up there, and you will be greeted halfway). As is typical HK customs, wait for reception, then proceed to an area where you wait to be seated.
Weekday lunchtime dim sum was relatively busy, but not full. First thing I noticed, however, was a lack of dim sum options. Their menu is arguably one of the least extensive I've ever seen, to the point I actually ordered something from the lunch special menu.
Two standout items I ordered were the abalone siu mai and one of their specials, which was some form of beef squid ink noodle rolls. I found the abalone siu mai to be unique and interesting, as it's something my home country of Canada would not even think of. The beef squid ink noodle rolls were also a departure from the normal noodle rolls I eat, and this dish actually tasted good.
Everything else, however, ranged from bad to mediocre. My standards might have been set a bit high considering I only landed in Hong Kong two days prior to visiting here, but seeing the nice decorations and the fact HK is known for their quality and variety of dim sum, I left here a bit disappointed. read more
