This was my favorite meal on my entire trip to Hong Kong, a city where Michelin-starred restaurants are a dime a dozen. A little hole in the wall, a seafood restaurant that doesn't sell seafood...wait, what was that? Ah Shun does not sell seafood. No - they *cook* seafood. You supply the seafood. I came quite nervous about all this; I don't know Cantonese very well and I don't know the area. And yet, it was all so simple. One of the owners simply escorted me to the local fish market, and together we filled up two bags of live fish, shrimp, and clams (approx. $100). Back at the restaurant, I just took a seat as the cooks did their thing, turning out three excellent, simple dishes (approx. $200). The experience was both surreal and comforting, and made the trek to Cheung Chau the most memorable day of the trip. If I could, I would go here again and again! read more
