And I think that I have found the best there is (well, in my opinion that is). Wah Kee Seafood Restaurant in the Mui Wo cooked food centre is brilliant. Sure, it serves the same menu as every other joint in the place, standard fare including such delights as; deep fried salt and pepper squid, steam fish, sweet and sour fish, salt roasted chicken, fried noodles, salt fish rice, the list goes on. However, it just serves it better. The dishes are really well prepared, well seasoned, and, importantly, thoroughly cooked. It looks like the food is prepared by a single chef, and can he both cook and expedite fast! The restaurant is usually pretty busy of an evening, and he still manages to get the food out in a timely fashion. The venue itself is not the prettiest. You are in a cooked food market, and you will be sat on plastic stools at a plastic table with plastic bags as a table cloth. Remember my two rules, always rinse your crockery (fortunately, most of the table are placed over a drain which runs the length of the outdoor seating area, so you can pour your dregs directly into the drain), and never look in the kitchen. This venue actually has an open kitchen, so you can see what is going on - oh, yes, it's fine! Staff here are generally good, they are impatient with me (looking like a native but speaking like the Queen of England), but are fine with my ex-pat buddies. I think it's more a fascination with them when the Chinese guy speaks English, the Welsh woman speaks Canto, and the American/Swede speak Mandarin - they just didn't get it, haha! There is an English menu which has decent translations in it. Oh, they occasionally wheel out the youngest of their family to help serve, which is hilarious when you see a 6 year old wandering through the restaurant with a tray of Blue Girls. If you are not to precious about your surrounding, are happy to order using hand signals, and want a decent feed for little money, come here. Last night's dinner for five, which included beer and all of the above and more, only cost HKD200 per head. They even looked confused when we left a tip!

Maybe it's because I came right before closing, but a few things happened: - I ordered a bowl that was supposed to be tuna, but received a salmon poki bowl after waiting 5-10 minutes. They offered to replace it. I waited another 5 minutes. -the tuna bowl was missing the additional seaweed salad. I had to ask for it again. I waited another 2-4 minutes. -the tuna bowl wasn't that fresh, which was disappointing given how close we are to the sea and seafood markets.

Anyways, back to pololi review: I used Google map to get here, so it's pretty easily and fairly accurate. Cute little restaurant that you can't miss :) Once you are inside, you will realized the a/c is not strong enough, which got me a little worried cause they are selling raw food. $90hkd for a bowl with two protein options, not including any sides. I was hoping their style could be more like California where you can pick any sides for free and at least have 10 sides for you to choose from. I like the flavor that they've created, especially avo-mayo. I think the Mayo actually helps breakdown the tenderness of the fish, so it's not as chewy as the other favor tunas. And sadly, they only have one type of flavor for salmon :( Overall this bowl got me full and didn't get me sick good flavor, clean, decent price. 4 stars

This is probably one of the better places to get food in the immediate vicinity, and is also a very fun place to walk around. It's very manageable, while having a variety of food vendors, ranging from the ordinary HK fare to the extraordinary (I would describe one of the stalls as selling post-modern kimchi). I got a claypot rice with chicken feet and pork ribs (though there was no clay pot). There was nowhere to sit, so I went not too far outside and found a concrete stoop to sit on. It was good, cheap, and filling.

You'll want to focus on the seafood here, although it should be noted that there are other menu items for people who don't enjoy seafood. A must-order item is the seafood boil, which (as you've probably guessed) is fresh seafood boiled with a blend of Cajun-style spices and then tossed with your choice of sauce. Each order requires a minimum of three kinds of seafood. We recommend the Dungeness crab, baby octopus and live crawfish with the "Mr. Crab Cajun Sauce" in medium spicy (we tried the mild before, but it didn't have enough of a kick to it). Service can be hit-or-miss depending on how busy the place is, and the air-conditioning can sometimes be on the cold side.

Laksa is basically rice noodles in curry soup. What's interesting at Sawadika is that they also offer "cart noodle". Think à la carte! Its a popular kind of noodle offered mostly in Hong Kong, where you can choose the soup base, the type of noodle, and pick your toppings. But unlike most Chinese cart noodles, here they also offer the curry soup base used for Laksa. I haven't seen à la carte Laksa anywhere else before, and they do it quite well here. This place is a nice decently-priced option if you want some warm food or something quick before you hit the bars nearby. The only downside is that they close pretty early. Although they close at 9pm, their kitchen stops taking orders around 8:30pm.
