I am never one to wait in a line (life is short and I choose to not wait in lines), but by rare chance this weekend, we walked by and there was barely a line. When I asked my Chinese husband why this brand was so popular, he said that they are no more expensive than other bubble tea spots, but they use a better tea. Our tea drink cost $18HKD, plus an extra $4HKD for our pearl add on. You place your order from the street counter from their extensive menu, pay and then wait for your number to be called (they did request to see the receipt when we grabbed your drink, so be sure to not throw away or anything before you snag your beverage). The menu is in Chinese and English, it is clear to understand your options and you can always add pearls to any drink that might not already have them. Some drinks served with ice, others are not. We shared the lemon premium jasmine green teat (and added pearls) from the "suggested menu." It tasted like a really satisfying lemon shake-up (my Midwestern roots are showing!). Sweet, satsifying, very delicious. I also loved that it is served in a paper versus a plastic cup. An environmentally friendly niche can make someone like me more loyal to one brand over another. The shop is fronted by glass, so you can see the dozen or so employees almost surgically preparing the tea drinks. There were maybe 15 people mulling about ordering and waiting like us and it took maybe 8-10 minutes for us to get our drink. Not certain I would wait with the masses when they are super busy, but I will definately snag one on the times I see there is little to no line.

Everything was amazing, and I think their tomato beef macaroni is my favorite here. Their Hong Kong milk tea is also perfect with just the right amount of sweetness. It is not too bitter or too sweet, just perfect (I like sweet things but not too sweet). The restaurant is a bit tight, but they do offer takeout. Even when it gets busy, customers are usually friendly and quick, especially if they see a long line and they are finishing up soon.

Both are extremely concentrated, but delicious. If you're sensitive to caffeine though, it'll keep you up. Best of all, everything was so cheap - 160 HKD (about $20 USD). They specializes in fruit-based cheese teas and European style bake items. I heard so much of this place and has been expanding really fast in the last several years. They seem to be pretty efficient and you can wait on the sidewalk by the fence and watch for your number in red, then go and pick up your drink when you see your number (...duh, mei. lol). At first I thought I would have to really listen for when they call my number, so this went much more smoothly than I expected. So I'm actually chewing the rest of the bubbles now as I write my review (note: there is an overwhelming amount of them left, so I will be asking for less next time) and I'm realizing they are a little chewier than I've had. Also, they are smaller bubbles--at least these golden ones anyway. I prefer the softer and larger bubbles...they have two other kinds of bubbles so I will be trying those soon hopefully and will report back!

I'm personally a big fan of that Taiwanese chain, so when I learned of this place, right in the heart of where I used to hang out as a teenager, I decided to stop by to see for myself. The tea was decent, but nothing stood out. I would call it average, since there has been many good places that opened up all over Hong Kong. Given how quickly these places open and close though, I'm surprised this one is surviving, especially in a very competitive corner of Mong Kok. It's worth a try when you are in the neighbourhood. But, really, why not just fly an hour away to Taiwan for all the deliciousness over there? Save your appetite while in Hong Kong for their other local delicacies.
