Don't let the giant queue scare you, and yes there is almost always a queue. Despite that, it moves fairly fast. Its definitely not a place where you sit and chat with your friends. They expect you to sit down, order right away, eat it, and leave right away. But I guess many popular places are like that around Hong Kong.. Seating-wise its very cramp here. You'll be sitting basically elbow to elbow with strangers next and behind you. But that doesn't matter because their desserts are so wonderful! Some of my favorites are the tong yuen (glutinous rice balls) that come come with peanut sauce. The one that comes in the ginger soup is good too (for this dish, the balls have fillings inside, such as sesame or peanut sauce). Another good one is their sorbets, which are perfect for a hot day.

Having no idea that this place existed, I was pretty thankful to my new local friend who suggested this place. It's located in a small little street, similar to an alley way, and by the time you get near it, you'll definitely see a long line of people waiting to get in. The wait itself isn't that bad. Most people just come here to eat dessert and leave right after. Once seated, my friends and I spent some time browsing through the extensive dessert menu and settled on trying the durian with crystal seeds (one of the many popular dishes) and watermelon and lychee with crystal seeds. In summary, the watermelon and lychee were ok. The watermelon ended up being too watery for my taste and the lychee wasn't too memorable. Both tasted decent but definitely not a must try. For the durian, this was surprisingly good! I am normally not a durian fan (the stench gets to me sometime) but here, you couldn't really smell too much of the durian in the dish. The taste of durian was also soften quite a bit, making this dish a bit more doable for those who do not like durian. I found this dish to be pretty tasty and not too sweet and it was unique to eat it with the crystal seeds. Overall, this is a great spot to stop by for desserts. If you're not a fan of durian but can tolerate the smell of it wafting through the restaurant, this place is great to try other HK desserts at an affordable price.

Everything was amazing, and I think their tomato beef macaroni is my favorite here. Their Hong Kong milk tea is also perfect with just the right amount of sweetness. It is not too bitter or too sweet, just perfect (I like sweet things but not too sweet). The restaurant is a bit tight, but they do offer takeout. Even when it gets busy, customers are usually friendly and quick, especially if they see a long line and they are finishing up soon.

And you definitely need to get the milk tea here. The hot one is smaller and comes with condensed milk, while the cold version is larger but comes without condensed milk. Both are extremely concentrated, but delicious. If you're sensitive to caffeine though, it'll keep you up. Best of all, everything was so cheap - 160 HKD (about $20 USD). I am never one to wait in a line (life is short and I choose to not wait in lines), but by rare chance this weekend, we walked by and there was barely a line. When I asked my Chinese husband why this brand was so popular, he said that they are no more expensive than other bubble tea spots, but they use a better tea. Our tea drink cost $18HKD, plus an extra $4HKD for our pearl add on. You place your order from the street counter from their extensive menu, pay and then wait for your number to be called (they did request to see the receipt when we grabbed your drink, so be sure to not throw away or anything before you snag your beverage). The menu is in Chinese and English, it is clear to understand your options and you can always add pearls to any drink that might not already have them. Some drinks served with ice, others are not. We shared the lemon premium jasmine green teat (and added pearls) from the "suggested menu." It tasted like a really satisfying lemon shake-up (my Midwestern roots are showing!). Sweet, satsifying, very delicious. I also loved that it is served in a paper versus a plastic cup. An environmentally friendly niche can make someone like me more loyal to one brand over another. The shop is fronted by glass, so you can see the dozen or so employees almost surgically preparing the tea drinks. There were maybe 15 people mulling about ordering and waiting like us and it took maybe 8-10 minutes for us to get our drink. Not certain I would wait with the masses when they are super busy, but I will definately snag one on the times I see there is little to no line.

It's also an incomplete visit to a cha chaang teng without the coffee milk tea and on top of that, I also got a side of scrambled eggs. The pineapple bun was kind of dense and dry, even with the slab of butter. The egg tarts were also dry with a plain-tasting custard. The coffee milk tea was fine but we didn't realize until visiting another cha chaang teng that hot usually means unsweetened. And the scrambled eggs were so plain...I just remember cha chaang teng scrambled eggs being super silky and creamy. This was just disappointing and I didn't need to order normal, regular-tasting scrambled eggs. They're saving grace is how cheap everything was. For that price, it just felt like we got what we paid for...lower quality food. I was very confused because I feel like I read a lot of raving reviews about this place so maybe we visited on an off day. But out of every place we tried, this was pretty low on our list.
