What I do love about here is that you're also able to create your own from at least five types of tea and there are seats in the back as well for all patrons that purchase a drink it's kept at a comfortable coolness along with USB port for some recharge. The staff wasn't as quite friendly as he didn't ask about our sweetness level and I forgot to mention ton it as well so for me personally it was SWEET and had a difficult time drinking it but was very happy to have this refreshing cup of tea. It has a big bamboo containers filled with fortune sticks. The idea is to pick a stick randomly from the container and get a paper from the drawers according to the number on the stick in order to see your fortune. I ordered the black sugar milk with boba. The wait was quite a while because they really focus on making each cup perfect, which I really respect because they care about quality control. It's pretty cool that they also flame torched the drink to create a caramelized texture on top. The drink itself is a bit sweet to me at first, however, the milk balanced it out well. I also think that the boba is too soft...they might've overcooked it. Don't think I'd be back anytime soon because of the wait and the price ($30 HKD), but overall had a great time drinking this!

But there is a location all the way here, I'm guessing for convenience! With the shopping outlet just around the corner and the buses that lead you to different destination spots in Hong Kong, Gong Cha is sure to lure you to buy a drink, especially since the drinks are quickly made, everything's fairly cheap, and the drinks are always on point. After exiting the MTR and making a right, you'll see the small Gong Cha storefront. There are signs plastered all over the windows that advertise their top bestselling drinks, but everybody seemed to be ordering a regular boba milk tea, so I followed their lead. Yep, the best boba milk tea I've had during my trip to Asia. Comparing to Coco's in Taiwan, Gong Cha's milk tea was stronger and more flavorful, coming very close to Half and Half's boba milk tea back in the States. I feel like all the tea drinks I've had in Asia (with the exception of China) were smooth, and this was no exception. Milk tea was smooth and flavorful, boba was cooked perfectly and retained the chewy quality. Only minor complaint is that they don't have mini pearls. And of course you're able to adjust the sugar and ice levels. I almost always ask for less ice. Overall, a solid tea place. Super handy if you're on the way to the outlets and want to get something to drink. There are definitely busy times - when school ends, when there's a rush of customers who just got off the MTR, etc. - but the workers are pretty fast and you'll get your drink within a few minutes.

When I found out that a well known matcha chain, Nakamura Tokichi, was opening up its first branch in HK, I made it a point to plan to visit and give it a try. Unsurprisingly, as with all well known restaurants in Hong Kong, there was a fairly long wait even on a Wednesday. I had to wait almost two hours to get a table for six people. When we were finally seated, we were presented with complimentary green tea and a menu filled with delicious goodies. I tried the green tea almost immediately, and already I was floored. Most green tea tastes fairly bland and generic, but this green tea was incredibly rich and flavorful. As to be expected from a matcha restaurant with as prestigious a reputation as Nakamura Tokichi. We shared several matcha and hojicha parfaits, a hojicha ice cream, and I got the kyo no fukiyose, which contained several different things including chiffon cake, matcha ice cream, red bean, whipped cream, and mochi. The parfaits were incredibly rich and elegant. Cereal was added to the red bean and ice cream, and the flavors all blended together perfectly. The chiffon cake was sweet yet light. The red bean was a real delight, not too sweet, and balanced out the sweetness of the hojicha and matcha ice cream incredibly well. In just one experience, I can see why Nakamura Tokichi is one of the most well known matcha restaurants in Hong Kong. It lives up to its own hype in many ways.
