Western food! The…read moreflying pan has very reasonable prices, poor coffee, mediocre food, and good service. I ordered the salmon Benedict, Kenzie the pepper and onion Benedict. The eggs being over cooked, had a non runny yolk. I ordered sides of baked beans and corn grits which were both fine. Our plates came out with the sides switched up. Not a big deal. Not bad for a western breakfast in Hong Kong. Not great either. I've had better western breakfast in Shanghai, though you would think Hong Kong being the international hub it is, would have even higher standards for western foods. Eggs Benedict: 85HK. Unlimited coffee: 35HK. Using a restaurants own WiFi to post a 2 star review about them: Priceless.

I went with an Eggs Guacamole and a mango juice and I thought it was all pretty awesome overall. The food isn't overly expensive, you get fairly generous portions, and they definitely don't skimp on your free sides. The potatoes were a tad dry and I probably wouldn't go with them the next time around, but their grits aren't half bad. Hollandaise sauce is thick, yet runny, and the eggs were poached perfectly. The guacamole was offered in generous portions, and the only thing that I could possibly say they weren't generous with, in terms of portion size was my juice. That's fine though. I'll definitely be back to try a few other menu items.

Their Americano was very solid and I loved how its served almost like a Guinness with lots of foam on top AND dynamic "layers" of foam in the cup. It had that subtle sweetness after the bitterness from the coffee. I got myself an affogato. While the vanilla ice cream was pretty good with vanilla beans in it, the espresso was indeed quite strong. The coffee has seating options indoor and outdoor. They also have a row of coffee beans/roasts as well as test tubes for your smell the respective types of beans. The brown coffee tables with accents of light blue, along with the prominent coffee bean aroma, I can see myself catching up with friends here or getting some work done.

Halfway was our occasional morning base, with solid Western breakfast fare: scrambled eggs on sourdough or avocado toast with smoked salmon and a solid latte and matcha latte. The artful plating stands out, with food and drinks served on vibrant enamelled porcelain with intricate designs. That said, breakfast here veers towards the more basic: scrambled eggs on toast with a side salad and nicely plated pink mayonnaise. The sourdough bread was a good multigrain, but overall a surprisingly standard rendition of a breakfast open sandwich. In all, a nice spot with friendly service, a modern setting, good atmosphere and solid a-okay cafe fare that is beautifully plated.

Ice latte was above average. They use Japanese Meiji milk which is always a plus in my book Second visit: This time around they had an intriguing blackboard sign with the words curry fishball and latte pairing. Sounds like an odd match which is exactly why I had to try it. Curry fish balls are a staple street food in Hong Kong and their version of this snack was really on point. The fish balls were nice and chewy and the texture had a good bite to it. The curry sauce was on the lighter side and not too spicy. The milk from the latte helped to cool down the kick from the fish balls but other than that this pairing is not something I will proactively do. I also had the more classic pairing of the Belgian waffle and black coffee. This time I had the Ethiopia guji. The coffee had a nice fruity was to it without any sourness or real acidity. I really enjoyed these beans and bought a bag to bring home. The Belgian waffle was tasty. The caramel sauce was not too sweet and the waffle batter had a nice richness to it. Only criticism is that the waffle wasn't as crispy as I would like.

But Pacific Coffee at Central Building is a gem, and one of my secret hideouts. Although in the heart of Central, the place is kind of hidden so the little coffeehouse is never more than half full. To get there, go into Landmark and find the lift for Central Building. It's hard to describe, but if you're going I to Landmark from the entrance opposite the Marks and Spencer, the lifts are to your right. Go to the second floor, walk to the far end past the hair salon, and there you have it! Okay, Pacific Coffee needs no introduction - but I find that this particular outlet seems to have a larger selection of food than the others. Perhaps it's because less people come here, so it doesn't sell out as quickly? But you can definitely get a sandwich or a salad and have quite a few to choose from here. This Pacific Coffee is really quiet, making it great if you're looking for a nice spot to finish up some of your work. I'm not sure if Central Building itself has wifi, but if you hold a Pacific Coffee card, you're entitled to asking for their wifi code, which is valid for one time use only and just for half an hour (or twenty minutes... I'm not too sure!), but you can always just ask for a new code once the time is over. The quiet atmosphere here makes it easy for you to concentrate on your work, and they play 70s tunes like Carpenters and Carole King - my favorites! This isn't just limited to this particular Pacific Coffee, but if you're a member there's a 2-for-1 promotion for all coffee going on all month long in August! Great if you and a friend are looking for some place to just sit and catch up. One thing though is that this outlet closes at 7:30pm on weekdays and 5pm on weekends. I once came at around 4:50 on a Sunday, not knowing that that they were closing in ten, and got my hot coffee - I couldn't finish that up in ten minutes and stayed till around 5:10 or 5:15, and though they started doing their cleaning up, they didn't chase me out or anything!
