Comparing Ten Ren tea drinks in Northern (and Southern) California to this Hong Kong location: Prices in Hong Kong are dirt cheap in comparison, nothing really above US$2 on average. Quality is easily x2 to x3 than that in NorCal (and quite possibly SoCal) Thus we pay x2 to x3 as much at 1/2 to 1/3 of the quality, bottom line. Employees are very efficient. A ten minute wait for a drink after paying, is considered a hellish wait even if the line seems long. Even if one of the employees is slacking off, he or she is washing/rinsing cups or blender vats in one hand, and surfing social media/checking texts with the other. Multi-task slacking and getting drinks out the door. And some of you out there have no qualms about 1.5 hour wait for ramen (or a food truck), or 45 minutes for a watered down tapioca milk tea drink. Sigh. This Ten Ren also has a limited selection of imported Taiwanese tea, tea snacks. Octopus (MTR/subway/public transportation) cards accepted for payment (stored value card). You can sip on your drink while browsing books and magazines in Eslite bookstore. Honey green tea, some matcha based drinks, even a classic like Chrysanthemum Pu-Er, are all very good. Honey green tea, even if semi diluted, is still better than the crap in the States....the Wattes....(like Lattes in coffee shops, except Watte is water with a shot of tea). The bubbles are made from brown sugar then cooked in a brown sugar syrup concoction, then poured to line the cup with that distinct design and lastly, the milk! When I asked my Chinese husband why this brand was so popular, he said that they are no more expensive than other bubble tea spots, but they use a better tea. Our tea drink cost $18HKD, plus an extra $4HKD for our pearl add on. You place your order from the street counter from their extensive menu, pay and then wait for your number to be called (they did request to see the receipt when we grabbed your drink, so be sure to not throw away or anything before you snag your beverage). The menu is in Chinese and English, it is clear to understand your options and you can always add pearls to any drink that might not already have them. Some drinks served with ice, others are not. We shared the lemon premium jasmine green teat (and added pearls) from the "suggested menu." It tasted like a really satisfying lemon shake-up (my Midwestern roots are showing!). Sweet, satsifying, very delicious. I also loved that it is served in a paper versus a plastic cup. An environmentally friendly niche can make someone like me more loyal to one brand over another. The shop is fronted by glass, so you can see the dozen or so employees almost surgically preparing the tea drinks. There were maybe 15 people mulling about ordering and waiting like us and it took maybe 8-10 minutes for us to get our drink. The other shop that serves ice cream would be the one in Ma On Shan. They got two flavours, green tea and oolong tea, for us to choose from. If you have never tried their ice cream, I highly recommend the oolong tea ice cream. It tastes really special, literally like iced oolong tea! You need to try it! P.S. Drinks run to about $13-28. I ordered the green tea with honey. A very simple drink, but it was very good. Sometimes, although you order a honey drink, they just add sugar. Not at Ten Ren! I saw with my own eyes the barista add a generous dosage of honey into my drink. He then mixed it well, added ice, and then put it in the blender for a few seconds. The drink had a very strong tea aroma. You could also taste the honey well. Even when the ice melted a little, the tea flavor was still very good! Great place for any sort of tea. On display are many different types of teas that you can also buy to take home.

First of all, for $20 HKD and such a large size for both milk tea drinks, it was an amazing deal. And for $22 HKD the kumquat lemon drink was also refreshing and fragrant. Sharetea impressed me so much because of the variety and the quality for the price. The amount of items you can choose from at a low price is awesome. And the milk teas actually taste like tea and not just milk like most boba places. Their milk tea and green milk tea were both sweet and milky while retaining the true taste of each type of tea. This combination along with the tasty texture of the boba really sells it for me. Their boba is a good size and flavor + there are so many!!! I've never gotten so much boba in a boba drink in my life! Secondly, the kumquat lemon drink was impressive because of how fresh the taste was. You can really tell it's made from real fruit and it's a great drink for sunny + humid day in Hong Kong if you're looking for something light. To their credit, they have a lot of business here and they churn out those drinks quickly. There were a lot of people here, mostly waiting for their drinks. They have the brown sugar boba series, so I went for the Brown Sugar Boba Milk. I took it back to the hotel to drink and it went by quickly (get the large size I guess). Thing is for me, it's immensely sweet. Like insanely sweet. (I guess that's good because you get to taste the brown sugar?) so I would guess next time I would get it as half sweet if that's possible. The milk tea in itself tasted just alright haha. Their boba is pretty good though - comes out piping hot and chewy. Price for one of the drinks is $30HKD.
