I was passing by one late evening in Dec. last year and saw the line outside of this store was wrapping around the corner, there were at least 20 people waiting in line to place their orders for food. So I was thinking to myself there must be something good about this newly opened Singaporean coffee noodle joint.
Finally I got a chance to check it out in a late afternoon on a weekday. There was no line and plenty of seats available. This is how they operate: food ordering is self serve, you have to go wait in line in front of the cashier to place and pay for your food order, an electronic device will then be given to you, you would take this device to find your own seat and place it on the table at a particular spot so they can locate where you are seating. Food will then brought to your table by a staff member. You don't have to bus your table like other fast food places, someone will clean up after you.
Food wise they are not cheap, $40+ for a bowl of Larsa and $20+ for a hot drink. Having originated from Singapore their Larsa I can say is legit. Other items we had were the Kaya filled balls and coffee, the Kaya filled balls - little green custard filled baby cakes did not live up to my expectation. They were dry on the outside and chewy in the inside, the custard was slightly too sweet. They weren't even close when compare to our local street food "baby egg cakes". And then here came the Malay coffee, it tasted just like any coffee we could have from our local Cha Chaan Ten, not very note worthy.
Personally and professionally speaking, I don't think it's wise to have white color seating in a high traffic high volume restaurant such as this one. They are not even comfortable - too soft and too low. They are nice to look at and they can jazz up the imagine of the establishment, but they just don't live up to the heavy usage and they appear to be dirty all the time.
Will I go there again? Probably, just when my crave for Larsa hits again. read more
