This cooked food market is tucked in right behind the MTR - you'll miss it if you blink - but seemed to be very lively and festive as I passed through. I got something to go as it was very crowded but the folks are very friendly and helpful - they immediately approached me despite the busyness of their shops and helpfully offered me a menu in case I wanted to call for takeout in the future. Great value for the meal - some casual beef and veggies (and way too many onions lol) mixed in with rice - and would absolutely come again! One complaint and one warning - their iced milk tea has way too much ice (I'll ask for less next time) and if you're not a Cantonese speaker, or at least Mandarin, you might have a hard time.

There was never a long waiting period in between dishes. I was on vacation with my boyfriend's family, and I don't speak any Cantonese, so they took care of the communication part. I did see an Indian family while we were there, so I'm sure communication should be fine if you don't speak Cantonese. This meal was towards the end of our stay in HK and it's a good meal to cleanse your body. Afterwards, you can walk the strip on Nathan Road and go shopping - walk off your meal!

I think the trap is that dishes can *sound* vegetarian, but almost all common broths and sauces contains non-vegetarian items in it. Whenever I go vegetarian, I have a hard time finding more than one item on the menu at any cha chaan teng, because I know what actually goes in it. Which is what makes these sorts of vegetarian restaurants popular. Chinese vegetarian is not just "no killing of animals". They adhere to buddhist vegetarian habits, and don't use certain pungent vegetables like onions, garlic or chives in their cooking. That said, they are also somehow ok with making vegetables look and taste like meat. Gluten puffs that is chewy like a piece of stewed chicken? Sure! Soy protein packed together and sliced like ham? Why not. That is the sort of food you will get here -- vegetarian versions of popular pan-Chinese dishes, with the protein replaced by various plant-items ranging from the innocuous (tofu) to the there's-no-way-this-is-organic. Every bite brought me such surprise, because they do resemble the original dishes -- but it also makes me think, why? Are we not worthy to have vegetarian dishes that celebrate the vegetables on their own merit? That said, if you want some Chinese dishes but don't eat meat, this isn't bad and have a lot more variety of vegetarian dishes than other Chinese places. It also isn't bad for a good karma meal on Buddha's birthday. It just isn't something I actively look forward to.

Many service staff and all busy but it took us at least 10 minutes for someone to give us a menu. Requested water and it took a good five minutes. Normally in an Indian restaurant the first thing without asking water is served (part of culture). The food took a good 10 minutes as well. The Vegan Thaali which should have been the most simplest meal to serve and come out of kitchen. The food itself was a bit bland for our taste in seasonings. The spice level was low which is OK, but salt was too low. Surprisingly no pickle was served which could have solved both shortcomings. The Chappatis were OK and were not super fresh. The Vegan Masala Dosa took even longer to come out which was more surprising for us well. A South Indian restaurant normally the dosas are one of the quickest to come out. The dosa was also unevenly cooked - one side was well done, middle was perfect and the other side a little under done. Chutneys and sambhar were good. Their definition of vegetarian states that there is no dairy which is incorrect and vegan talks about eggs or meat but does not include any mentions of dairy.

It's located in a commercial building on some floor (sorry I forgot) that can be accessed by the elevator right when you enter. A few of the staff there could speak and hear, and our host was one of them. We were greeted and promptly seated at a table. The place wasn't big so the tables were closely spaced. However, the space didn't feel too cramped. We were handed the menus with clear, big photos. We flagged down one of the servers and we were using hand gestures to communicate. The photos on the menu definitely helped a lot! At the beginning of the menu, they also showed a brief history of the restaurant and some simple hand gestures you could use to communicate with the hearing impaired. All the staff were really friendly and always smiling. The food was really good! We tried a lot of items. The eggplant dish was delicious, not too greasy and lots of flavors. My favorite was the pan-fried veggie noodles with chewy gluten balls, black fungi, mushrooms, bamboo shoots and greens. The noodles were very crispy and the sauce and toppings gave good flavors. The fried tofu skin with sweet and sour sauce is another dish not to be missed. It's supposed to be one of their signature dishes and it did not disappoint. The tofu skin was crispy on the outside and soft and juicy inside. Sauce went great with the tofu. A prior review stated that this establishment would make Buddha proud and I would agree. Raw, Vegan, Gluten Free, Buddhist Friendly and Nut Free...all menu items are listed and marked as such. We were walk-ins around 9:30PM on a Monday and I think it was busy because it had just opened. There was maybe 10 minute wait. Ambiance is nice....cement floors, inviting little bar, tall ceilings, mismatched chairs (although the chairs are shorter than the bench on the opposite side of the dining table, so you are not at eye level with your meal companion....just an observation), good lighting, white walls, light wood finishes....the place feels inviting. Staff was friendly, food was delivered quickly. My biggest observation and maybe the leading factor for my 4 Star rating were the flavors. Every item we ordered was super flavorful. Tempah, lemongrass, roti canai, white truffle oils, flax dukkah, the list could go on....every menu item is a study in world spices and flavors. It comes through in every dish. Vegan, prepared clean and flavorful. Although with a kick and what my husband liked the least, the Mushroom Tempah Rendang was my personal favorite, but let me also note that the linguine noodles were super fresh. For one appetizer and two entrees (no drinks, just water), it was $452HKD (10% service fee is automatically added to the bill as well). My husband states and let me quote, "This is a girl restaurant. The only reason a guy is here is because he was tricked by the girl into coming here. This is a place that a girl would come because it is super healthy and full of raw/vegan stuff. The few guys I see here are saying to themselves, I was tricked." I suppose this is why I liked it and he did not like it so much...and there were more woman here than men! HA! HA! Crispy outside, chewy inside and delicious! Then we had the dragon roll sushi made with cauliflower rice. It was very good as well. The pieces were quite huge so you could not eat it in one bite. Some people used a knife and fork and others chose to hold it in hand and take bites. Then we had the mushroom gnocchi which had me so excited. It tasted good when dipped in the white sauce, but I didn't really like the texture. I like gnocchi to be soft and kind of chewy but this was more grainy...I'm sure due to the ingredients. Still worth having. Service was quick and friendly and items came out quickly until we ordered dessert. Then I feel like we were forgotten. We ordered our dessert before the table beside us. But they were served and finished well before ours arrived (they had one same item). We ordered the profiteroles with vegan ice cream. We had to choose one of 3 flavours for all 3 profiteroles vs one flavour for each. We chose the cherry fudge which was very good. Other flavours were strawberry and green tea. I was once here 20 years ago i believe during a family trip and not my decision to eat here or for the dishes, it was ok. Same with this trip. I'll forewarn future visitors here that I wasn't aware until after I had left pictures were not allowed. So apologies to those who run the establishment for my mistake as I meant no offense. I think the best dish out of all I had was the curried mixed vegetable plate. I wish other curry places could learn the recipe for it because this dish went fast at my table and it was really good. The sweet and sour "pork" (bean curds) wasn't bad, but the bean curds were deep fried to a crunchy consistency I'm guessing to resemble that crackling skin on top. The fried pumpkin didn't taste much like pumpkin if that's what it was. Could have been any melon as far as I could tell. Summary: This place is in the Nan Lian Garden Park and is part of a nunnery. To access this park, you must enter the park and best to make a reservation, but can accept walk ins if they are not busy. I'm not sure what the reason is for the $150 (HK dollars) minimum, but that could be a deterrent for those not sure about the food or for a smaller party of 3 or less. I'm guessing this is also to minimize waste as the ladies here will frown upon any wastage of dishes not eaten. The service was helpful and there is a beautiful view of dining behind a waterfall. Just keep in mind you are dining at a vegetarian spot so expect a variety of vegetables you may not have ever seen before and try before you say "no." There are a variety of options for drinks, but no alcohol. A bit pricey from what I've been told so be prepared for that. Otherwise, the garden itself is an absolutely beautiful place to visit and should be visited at least once in your life. Happy eating!!

Cooked so the stem was incredibly tender, yet still firm. Honestly I don't know what cordrycep is, but it was delicious. Beetroot salad Im not normally a big beet fan, so only okay. Beancurd This was awesome. A little garlicky. Bathrooms were pretty good. From a Western standard, I would give the bathroom an A. Ambience is a very traditional feel -- well lit with the waterfall on the window.

It is located about a block away from the street corners mentioned above and my husband and I thought it was a worthy place to stop in for a late lunch. We walked in around 2pm on a Friday and had missed the lunch crowds. We specifically had wanted to go to this spot for it being a vegetarian establishment and everyone on this earth (including us) could hazard to get more greens into their daily diet. Veggie SF spin on this is that with so many outbreaks in the world of listeria and other animal based diseases that have made it into the human food chain, eating vegan is the right choice to avoid all this. Early reviews mentioned a busy lunch hour and a surely staff, but this was quite the opposite of our experience when we went at 2pm (In Hong Kong, if you are with the 3 million people in about a two square mile radius that is trying to eat lunch, this is just a consequence of your environment...it is what it is and nobody should be shocked when an eatery is busy at lunchtime). We had a delicious meal and were impressed with the creativity the menu choices (spinach oyster puried soup was scrumptous!), weekly rotation of some new items on the menu (the mock chicken skewer was so good, you could not have known the difference from the real thing), the visual feast of "circa 1960 decor meets San Francisco neighborhood cool" to keep your eyes busy while you are sitting there (we especially loved the SF 49er display!) and loved seeing the owner there on sight. Everyone should eat more greens. Make it easy and fun for yourself and your family by disguising those greens binto the creative meals at VeggieSF. We will be back.

DEFINITELY a great date spot! They were also playing swing jazz, which really was the cherry on top regarding ambience. I'm in love. The food menu was quite extensive. It was quite hard for me to pick as there didn't seem to be any way the menu is categorised. There's some asian-inspired dishes, some veggie burgers, pastas, salads... I went with a burger in the end. It was beetroot based center and came with small side of salad and pumpkin and potato wedges. Salad was good, with a light yummy dressing. The burger I was surprisingly impressed with, usually veggie burgers are more of a miss for me. I thought the beetroot was made to a texture really similar to mince beef - very yummy. The wedges though was more of a miss. It still looked grilled from the outside, but when you bite into it, it tastes like it was boiled. I think the kitchen might've done a shortcut in grilling their veg! Overall great experience, service was very friendly too. Not the best value veggieplace, but I think you pay for the ambience and for service. Will go again, and most probably with a man this time :)
