Commonly known as the "wet market" to the Western locals, this market is two floors: downstairs is…read morethe wet market (the floor is literally wet) with fish and meat, and upstairs is the fresh fruits and vegetables. The wet market on the first floor has all kinds of meats like fish, pork, beef, prawns, crabs, etc. Westerners rarely shop here as the items are unmarked in terms of where they were caught or what variety they are. The boyfriend and I typically don't buy our meat from here. The one thing we do buy from here is BBQ pork from one of the vendors, closer to the entrance. He gives you a side of rice with your freshly sliced char sui pork with the most amazing crispy skin, half a century egg, and a dollop of a yummy spread of sorts that is made with garlic, ginger, and green onion. If the vendor asks if you want the mixture, say yes! Mix it in with your rice, or on top of your pork. Yums! The produce market upstairs is filled with multiple vendors who might sell similar fruits and vegetables, so it's a good idea to take a look at all the prices before you buy from a vendor. Prices are clearly marked on each produce, but the vendors usually have limited English. Either ways, you can get by with simple English and a lot of gesturing. Also, the fruits and veggies most likely come from the same place as the produce that is sold in the larger supermarkets like Wellcome and Park N Shop, but at a cheaper price. We like to get our fruits and veggies from this place because it's cheaper and you can also find some items that aren't found in the mainstream markets, like orange sweet potato and certain tofu. This is definitely a nice place to check out for cheaper produce, great BBQ pork, and good photo ops.

If you're on one of those western diets like paleo, raw, or vegan, you surprisingly have choices…read morehere in Central HK. Nood Food is one of them. I have yet to try the food, but one afternoon I had a sudden craving for a smoothie and Yelp led me here. After considering the various smoothie options (a plus in my book!) I ended up with the Berry Pump. Since it uses ingredients like almond milk and coconut, it's definitely more nutty than fruity but I enjoyed it nonetheless. What's nice is that they have stickers they put on every cup that has all ingredients listed along with nutritional information if you're counting calories. If you choose to sit towards the back (as opposed to the front bar area where you can people-watch the escalators) you might want try their complimentary "structured living water", which is apparently not just any water. I've honestly never heard of this concept and in my mind I read it as "strange voodoo water" but to each his own!

During a recent visit to Hong Kong, I went on a mission. An important mission. A kale salad…read moremission. I'm what some might call a particular eater. Personally, I call it a mild form of orthorexia. Despite my penchant for night market snacks and sushi and candied yams and all of that, there's nothing I love more than a raw cacao brownie or a giant plate of micro greens. Unfortunately, the Western organic food movement hasn't quite caught on in Taiwan at all. So I did a bunch of research and made a list of places I wanted to visit in HK, a place filled with health-conscious Western palates. Where the kale is abundant, the Quest Bars are numerous, and the cold-pressed green juice flows freely. nood food is a raw, organic cafe located right alongside the Pure Fitness gym in the SoHo district. There are both dine-in and takeaway food options, plus a full juice/smoothie bar and pre-packaged food items for sale (kale chips, raw chocolate bars, crackers, granola). You can also purchase juice cleansing sets from them as well. I didn't bother looking into this as I was only in town for the weekend. We dropped in for an early dinner on a Saturday evening. After much deliberation, I opted for the small salad box. For $62HKD, you get to pick 4 different salads from a pre-prepared selection in the display case. The brown box is deceptively minuscule - the guys there generously pack it to the brim! I had the kale, roasted pumpkin, cucumbers, and eggplant. Everything was so fresh! Seasoned to perfection, with a savory Mediterranean flair, and absolutely delicious. If I lived in Hong Kong, I would surely be a frequent customer.

I've eaten a lot of poki at this point, so this place was a bit of a let down for seafood when HK…read moreis so close to the sea. Maybe it's because I came right before closing, but a few things happened: - I ordered a bowl that was supposed to be tuna, but received a salmon poki bowl after waiting 5-10 minutes. They offered to replace it. I waited another 5 minutes. -the tuna bowl was missing the additional seaweed salad. I had to ask for it again. I waited another 2-4 minutes. -the tuna bowl wasn't that fresh, which was disappointing given how close we are to the sea and seafood markets.

Anyways, back to pololi review: I used Google map to get here, so it's pretty easily and fairly accurate. Cute little restaurant that you can't miss :) Once you are inside, you will realized the a/c is not strong enough, which got me a little worried cause they are selling raw food. $90hkd for a bowl with two protein options, not including any sides. I was hoping their style could be more like California where you can pick any sides for free and at least have 10 sides for you to choose from. I like the flavor that they've created, especially avo-mayo. I think the Mayo actually helps breakdown the tenderness of the fish, so it's not as chewy as the other favor tunas. And sadly, they only have one type of flavor for salmon :( Overall this bowl got me full and didn't get me sick good flavor, clean, decent price. 4 stars
