The sweet and sour "pork" was a hit for my group. So was the vegetarian sashimi platter, where we all tried to figure out what the mock meat was made of. The "jellyfish" was also really good, and it was interesting that it was in a peanut-flavored sauce. I can't really comment on service other than it seemed quick. There was never a long waiting period in between dishes. I was on vacation with my boyfriend's family, and I don't speak any Cantonese, so they took care of the communication part. I did see an Indian family while we were there, so I'm sure communication should be fine if you don't speak Cantonese. This meal was towards the end of our stay in HK and it's a good meal to cleanse your body. Afterwards, you can walk the strip on Nathan Road and go shopping - walk off your meal!

If you think Hong Kong is a good vegetarian city because it's so diverse -- not completely true if…read moreyou want to get non-Western food. I think the trap is that dishes can *sound* vegetarian, but almost all common broths and sauces contains non-vegetarian items in it. Whenever I go vegetarian, I have a hard time finding more than one item on the menu at any cha chaan teng, because I know what actually goes in it. Which is what makes these sorts of vegetarian restaurants popular. Chinese vegetarian is not just "no killing of animals". They adhere to buddhist vegetarian habits, and don't use certain pungent vegetables like onions, garlic or chives in their cooking. That said, they are also somehow ok with making vegetables look and taste like meat. Gluten puffs that is chewy like a piece of stewed chicken? Sure! Soy protein packed together and sliced like ham? Why not. That is the sort of food you will get here -- vegetarian versions of popular pan-Chinese dishes, with the protein replaced by various plant-items ranging from the innocuous (tofu) to the there's-no-way-this-is-organic. Every bite brought me such surprise, because they do resemble the original dishes -- but it also makes me think, why? Are we not worthy to have vegetarian dishes that celebrate the vegetables on their own merit? That said, if you want some Chinese dishes but don't eat meat, this isn't bad and have a lot more variety of vegetarian dishes than other Chinese places. It also isn't bad for a good karma meal on Buddha's birthday. It just isn't something I actively look forward to.

Yes, I'm a fan! :) I rarely eat in here because I'd ALWAYS bring food back home and eat at my place, but I have eaten in here a few with times with friends, classmates, and relatives. Eating in here is good too. I just usually bring things back to my apt so that I can multitask and do other things while I eat. :) The food here is pretty flavorful and yummy if you like Asian vegetarian food. It's pretty small and tiny as it is being run by Asian folks more on the older side... But nevertheless, you can get tons of goodies here ranging from dim sum (both sweet and savory), soy milk, soup, lunch boxes ($25 - what an awesome price!), noodles, rice, etc. I always get their lunch boxes for $26 (add an extra dollar if you want noodles or rice noodles instead of rice). The selection changes on a weekly basis and with $25, you get your rice, side, and soup or soy milk. I always pick soup since I like their soup more than their soy milk. Give it a try if you're in the area. They have take away menus in both English and Chinese.

A prior review stated that this establishment would make Buddha proud and I would agree. Raw, Vegan, Gluten Free, Buddhist Friendly and Nut Free...all menu items are listed and marked as such. We were walk-ins around 9:30PM on a Monday and I think it was busy because it had just opened. There was maybe 10 minute wait. Ambiance is nice....cement floors, inviting little bar, tall ceilings, mismatched chairs (although the chairs are shorter than the bench on the opposite side of the dining table, so you are not at eye level with your meal companion....just an observation), good lighting, white walls, light wood finishes....the place feels inviting. Staff was friendly, food was delivered quickly. My biggest observation and maybe the leading factor for my 4 Star rating were the flavors. Every item we ordered was super flavorful. Tempah, lemongrass, roti canai, white truffle oils, flax dukkah, the list could go on....every menu item is a study in world spices and flavors. It comes through in every dish. Vegan, prepared clean and flavorful. Although with a kick and what my husband liked the least, the Mushroom Tempah Rendang was my personal favorite, but let me also note that the linguine noodles were super fresh. I saw wine, but not sure of their liquor license status. Wine for sure, not sure on the other adult beverages. The staff indicated that they do serve breakfast and lunch too and I also saw a fresh cold pressed juices and smoothies menu as well. It is a bit pricey, but I think you get what you pay for. This is again vegan, prepared clean and flavorful...worth the price to me personally. If vegan is not your thing, you will most likely feel this place is expensive. For one appetizer and two entrees (no drinks, just water), it was $452HKD (10% service fee is automatically added to the bill as well). My husband states and let me quote, "This is a girl restaurant. The only reason a guy is here is because he was tricked by the girl into coming here. This is a place that a girl would come because it is super healthy and full of raw/vegan stuff. The few guys I see here are saying to themselves, I was tricked." I suppose this is why I liked it and he did not like it so much...and there were more woman here than men! HA! HA! HA!, so maybe he is right! So I will definatley go back, but it will probably be by myself or with a group of girlfriends or my one Vegan male friend.

We made a reservation for 6 pm and were told we would need to finish by 7:30. We arrived and were seated immediately. The interior was very quaint with a few tables on the main floor and some bar seating upstairs. There is one male and one female toilet (change table inside) with 2 sinks outside them. The dinner menu was amazing....so many choices and I was thrilled to find not too much tofu. We started with popcorn chicken, which was gf and made of mushrooms. Crispy outside, chewy inside and delicious! Then we had the dragon roll sushi made with cauliflower rice. It was very good as well. The pieces were quite huge so you could not eat it in one bite. Some people used a knife and fork and others chose to hold it in hand and take bites. Then we had the mushroom gnocchi which had me so excited. It tasted good when dipped in the white sauce, but I didn't really like the texture. I like gnocchi to be soft and kind of chewy but this was more grainy...I'm sure due to the ingredients. Still worth having. Service was quick and friendly and items came out quickly until we ordered dessert. Then I feel like we were forgotten. We ordered our dessert before the table beside us. But they were served and finished well before ours arrived (they had one same item). We ordered the profiteroles with vegan ice cream. We had to choose one of 3 flavours for all 3 profiteroles vs one flavour for each. We chose the cherry fudge which was very good. Other flavours were strawberry and green tea. The crust part was quite hard since it was gf, but yummy. The wait was a little annoying since we were told we had to be done by a certain time. This did not allow us to order more if we wanted. The price was $880HK for our meal,

Veggie Sky's lunch operates differently from traditional restaurants. You fill out a paper circling which items you like. You then hand the paper to the cashier to pay. Then you take the same paper to the window to pick up your order. We were fortunate to encounter an English speaking waiter who walked us through the menu and the ordering process. Veggie Sky's lunch menu offers a choice of six side dishes which vary daily. You can choose a base of 3 sides for no additional charge, or pay $15 for each additional side. Each combo comes with a complimentary soup and unlimited brown rice (or sweet potato congee for $5 extra). You can also purchase an appetizer or dessert for another $15. However the basic lunch combo (3 sides, soup and rice) is a total of $60. The food is fairly decent, but Veggie Sky earns a full 5 stars for its specialty menu and customer service. Many service staff and all busy but it took us at least 10 minutes for someone to give us a menu. Requested water and it took a good five minutes. Normally in an Indian restaurant the first thing without asking water is served (part of culture). The food took a good 10 minutes as well. The Vegan Thaali which should have been the most simplest meal to serve and come out of kitchen. The food itself was a bit bland for our taste in seasonings. The spice level was low which is OK, but salt was too low. Surprisingly no pickle was served which could have solved both shortcomings. The Chappatis were OK and were not super fresh. The Vegan Masala Dosa took even longer to come out which was more surprising for us well. A South Indian restaurant normally the dosas are one of the quickest to come out. The dosa was also unevenly cooked - one side was well done, middle was perfect and the other side a little under done. Chutneys and sambhar were good. Their definition of vegetarian states that there is no dairy which is incorrect and vegan talks about eggs or meat but does not include any mentions of dairy.

But hey, it's not about me :p Woodlands had good sambhar, the kind I like, with a balance of sweet sour salt, and the lentils not as liquid-y as some places. I like it a bit thick, so this was good. The thali we ordered had nicely done vegetable curries and lentils, all of them, rassam, dal, a dry potato capsicum sabzi, a vegetable kurma curry and more. The puris were crisp and soft all at the same time, and not oily. The dosas were good. As a general rule of thumb, they're the most fool-proof things you can order at a South Indian restaurant.
