I visited the American Club yesterday. It was my first time. . We got invited for some drinks and dinner at the Fireside Restaurant in the Country Club. Located in Tai Tam Road, access from Wan Chai takes a while...the taxi took around 20 minutes to get there, but the taxi driver didn't quite know which way to take initially. When I got there, we were welcomed by our host who took us to the restaurant. It's a cozy place, quite big, and very homey looking. It feels more like the living room at home (a lot bigger...) than a bar. The seats are really comfy too, soft armchairs and sofas all around. There is a big bar in the middle and even a chimney. We sat at the corner right at the end on the right, which was even quieter. I found the atmosphere really friendly and even the staff was. A lovely waiter came around to ask us about drinks; we ordered a bottle of merlot, which was good. After a little while talking we were given the menus - they have a little bit of everything! I was surprised: Mexican, Indian, Thai, Burgers...I ordered a green curry with prawns. It took a little while for the food to arrive, but everything seemed so chilled out, I didn't mind. And the wait was worth it...I did enjoy my curry, the sauce was very well done, but the best: it was packed with huge prawns (barely seen that before). I had also asked for a change from rice to vegetables which the waiter said it was no problem, and they came also nicely cooked.
We finished up the drinks and decided to go back home. At the entrance we ordered a cab and in less than a minute we were on our way back to Wan Chai.
I had a great time yesterday night: chilled, happy, friendly...just how the Country Club at the American Club claims to be. read more
