Kam Wah Cafe is also famous for their freshly baked Pineapple Bun and Butter. Can't start your day without some HK Milk Tea and Iced Ovaltine. My son said it's a good thing the nai cha in the states are not as good because he was starting to develop an addiction. Lol. For those of you who don't know, it's made with Ceylon leaves, evaporated milk and sweetened condensed milk. The French toast was so damn delicious but a bit indulgent. I do wish I could taste more of the peanuts. My son loved his bolo bao. We also shared a hot bowl of macaroni soup with Spam and lettuce. Thinking back, I regret not trying the Spicy Satay Beef Instant Noodle. I will have to look for this back in the states. The aunties working here are just the most adorable, very kind and welcoming. One of them took the time to help us navigate the huge menu and recommended a few items. I would come back again and again if I could. I have a mad love for these iconic HK Style Cafes aka Cha Chaan Tengs. These affordable quick-paced restaurants were influenced by the city's 150 years of British rule. Aside from the classic breakfast items, they also offer many delicious rice and noodle dishes in the afternoon.

We got here fairly early, so we didn't have to wait for a table. Service was as expected - quick, efficient, and no nonsense. A tell-tale sign of a good HK cafe. The food just hit the spot for me, bringing me right back to my childhood memories of eating this on weekend mornings at our local HK cafe. An experience to journey through a taste of what local flavours mean. Black sesame dessert soup (as in the Chinese dessert) with a shot of espresso - the nuttiness nicely aromatizes the espresso without overpowering the drink with sweetness. At the end of each sip, you'll taste the bitter/acidity of the coffee. It is iced coffee after all, so definitely not for those black coffee lover that demand a cup of sour. Presented with an array of tasty looking cake, I couldn't resist but to get a chocolate cake as recommended by the barista. Super chocolatey chocolate cake, a layer of ganache, mousse, and sponge cake, topped with cocoa powder. Quite the delight for chocolate lovers, and it's not outrageously sweet given all the layers. Pairing the two together, there's a small disconnect in flavour - more a personal preference. I think a cheesecake or yuzu cake may help accentuate the flavour of the drink. I could just imagine how the acidity may compliment each other. Ambience is decent, you can still read a book in peace although there is always crowds passing by being in the open space of a mall. Speciality drinks cost a bit more but I think it's worth the price for the craft. There're a few other speciality drinks and cakes that pique my sinful indulgence so I'll come here again before my trip ends this times.

I personally ordered the Benedict and thought the pulled pork was a little to sweet. It did taste really good overall with the mashed avocado and the poached egg. The sweetness from the pork and the savoriness was from the egg & avocado complimented each other very well. The burger with duck meat was really savory and this reminded me of Peking duck. The spaghetti was okey imo, my mom enjoyed it though. Love the interior of this place! Super cute & cozy, service was pretty fast.

The entrance faces a couple of steps to an elevated level where the seating is. To the left of the entrance is baristas doing their thing but you can also see baristas on the second level too. So where do we go? We walked up the stairs to get seats and proceeded to the second level barista who then told us to order on the first level. Couldn't have been easier if the barista was more attentive by greeting and waiting for people to come up to order? Anyways, we grabbed the menu and decided to get some drinks as a break from walking. Since it was hot, I got an iced mocha. And honestly, nothing special. It was just satisfying to drink something sweet and cold. Hype? Maybe. Would I come back here again? Maybe if I was desperate enough to sit at a minimal looking spot and try another drink.

Why is the restaurant named after a dog? Fret not, dog lovers, in fact the restaurant is so named…read morebecause the owner himself has a pair of adorable Chow Chows and decided that his business should so be named. Situated in a corner section of the Fung Yau Street South that is now famed for its variety of restaurants, Chow Chow boasts western dishes at local prices. The menu does change daily though you will always find a steak of some sort and the cream of mushroom soup (a must try) is always available. If the heavier items are causing issues with your waistline then there are also the choices of salads and at times, Japanese bentos (though this is not always on the menu). It has both indoor and outdoor seating whereby your four legged companions are welcomed on the outside portion. Inside it has a calm atmosphere and a huge wall-to-wall photo of the aforesaid canines of which the restaurant is named after. Service is quick but for a reason: they do ask you to return the table at a set time and this may not be to the liking of some. Also an issue is that it is a victim of its own success- getting a table on busy days (e.g. weekends) demands the patience of a saint and service quality is also suffers accordingly. Advice is to go on weekdays and enjoy the dishes which on the island will cost you double or more. Parking is limited and most patrons simply park on the side of the street, though do be prepared to run out to your pride and joy half way through your dinner as the 5-0 come knocking issuing tickets (which could put a real damper on a nice dinner).
