I am never one to wait in a line (life is short and I choose to not wait in lines), but by rare chance this weekend, we walked by and there was barely a line. When I asked my Chinese husband why this brand was so popular, he said that they are no more expensive than other bubble tea spots, but they use a better tea. Our tea drink cost $18HKD, plus an extra $4HKD for our pearl add on. You place your order from the street counter from their extensive menu, pay and then wait for your number to be called (they did request to see the receipt when we grabbed your drink, so be sure to not throw away or anything before you snag your beverage). The menu is in Chinese and English, it is clear to understand your options and you can always add pearls to any drink that might not already have them. Some drinks served with ice, others are not. We shared the lemon premium jasmine green teat (and added pearls) from the "suggested menu." It tasted like a really satisfying lemon shake-up (my Midwestern roots are showing!). Sweet, satsifying, very delicious. I also loved that it is served in a paper versus a plastic cup. An environmentally friendly niche can make someone like me more loyal to one brand over another. The shop is fronted by glass, so you can see the dozen or so employees almost surgically preparing the tea drinks. There were maybe 15 people mulling about ordering and waiting like us and it took maybe 8-10 minutes for us to get our drink. Not certain I would wait with the masses when they are super busy, but I will definately snag one on the times I see there is little to no line.

Furthermore, you can opt to have it served in a cup, a waffle bowl, or even as a drink. The stand operates as part of the supermarket chain city super and is conveniently located outside the actual market for a quick grab and go treat. While it's not the cheapest, the quality is superior and my wallet doesn't object. In addition, they serve obanyaki in several flavors. The custard filling within the hot and fresh pancake, especially the black sesame one is indulgent. All in all, this is the place to get quality green tea soft serve with a light, not overwhelmingly bitter flavor. This may not be for those who prefer the strong green tea taste but rather for the creamy and subtle matcha lovers.

What I do love about here is that you're also able to create your own from at least five types of tea and there are seats in the back as well for all patrons that purchase a drink it's kept at a comfortable coolness along with USB port for some recharge. The staff wasn't as quite friendly as he didn't ask about our sweetness level and I forgot to mention ton it as well so for me personally it was SWEET and had a difficult time drinking it but was very happy to have this refreshing cup of tea. Pretty good selection from the menu: various ice cream configurations and shaved ice. Service is kind of slow and food items can come out at different times, which makes it difficult when you're there with a bunch of other people. I enjoyed my shaved ice, it was well flavored throughout. Portion size pretty generous. My husband had the strawberry shaved ice. I thought the strawberry tasted like a fresh strawberry puree, he said it tasted more like a jam/sundae syrup. The other 2 had an ice cream bowl with 3 flavors: matcha, hojicha and Hokkaido milk. One said she preferred the matcha ice cream at a different establishment, the other said it wasn't bad although she wished the ice cream was creamier.

They do a stand up job with their version fo soft serve and it has slowly gained the popularity of Kowloon locals who line up here night and out. The evenings bring in the (young) crowds, but the daytime is usually an easy time to pop in here without having to wait. Their green tea matcha is right up there with some of the tastiest in Hong Kong. It is the kind of ice cream that is suitable for any time of the year; though summer has been a particularly popular time, naturally. While I like to rock a cone for my green tea matcha, going with a sundae version in a larger cup with mochi and tapioca balls is not a bad way to go either. When ice cream gets too fancy with the toppings, it is prime instagram material. Via Tokyo certainly has a lot of love in that department. Though their claim to fame is the green tea flavor, I really enjoy their Hokkaido milk on its own. It is simple, yet super creamy in texture and strangely addicting. I would also recommend dabbling in their seasonal / monthly flavor, which was most recently black sesame. The black sesame tasted like peanut butter, which is a flavor that will always resonate well with me. Can't make up your mind? Get a waffle bowl / cup that showcases all three. Your group (or just you) will be extremely happy you did. A reminder that it is cash only and prices will range from 35-55 for cones and combinations. A pro tip for people not willing to wait in the line: To go / takeaway orders are the way to go.

I stumbled upon this little coffee shop when I took a little stroll next to Olympian City (Yup, under the burning heat but no regret) You will not expect that you may find this place in a region where mostly every other shops on the street are rather old but that is the beauty of it. This place is really cozy and relaxing since it is not located in the most crowded street in Mongkok, there are not that many customers, which definitely makes this a perfect place for chilling. The coffee is freshly made and even though one particular coffee branch is just one block away, it tastes much better and is served by a very friendly barista. Personally, I love the taste of hazelnut and every time I go there, a good old iced hazelnut latte makes my day. It is creamy and of the right amount of milk so it is not too milky. After exiting the MTR and making a right, you'll see the small Gong Cha storefront. There are signs plastered all over the windows that advertise their top bestselling drinks, but everybody seemed to be ordering a regular boba milk tea, so I followed their lead. Yep, the best boba milk tea I've had during my trip to Asia. Comparing to Coco's in Taiwan, Gong Cha's milk tea was stronger and more flavorful, coming very close to Half and Half's boba milk tea back in the States. I feel like all the tea drinks I've had in Asia (with the exception of China) were smooth, and this was no exception. Milk tea was smooth and flavorful, boba was cooked perfectly and retained the chewy quality. Only minor complaint is that they don't have mini pearls. And of course you're able to adjust the sugar and ice levels. I almost always ask for less ice. Overall, a solid tea place. Super handy if you're on the way to the outlets and want to get something to drink. There are definitely busy times - when school ends, when there's a rush of customers who just got off the MTR, etc. - but the workers are pretty fast and you'll get your drink within a few minutes.
